About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels (or other cities occasionally); footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

John Drury too. I remember all of them, and may they rest in heavenly peace. I get excited seeing Mike Adamle too, I remember him better from hosting American Gladiators. Too bad his health is apparently bad today. T_T

Was excited to see a complete Ch.7 Eyewitness News broadcast from 1984...but as soon as Floyd Kalber began the opening story, this old Cub fan's heart sank from the memories that came flooding back. So much hope and excitement, ending in bitter disappointment in San Diego. And when the Cubs finally (FINALLY!) won it all in 2016 where did I watch the breakthrough? From where I live now...in San Diego🙃

Well the mid 80’s was one of the worst times of my life when the Cubs were clinching the NL East and I was dealing with low self esteem and severe family problems were I at the time was ready to run away from home after having problems with bratty classmates in high school and horrible family problems. Wish I could relive the memories again on a better note!

Jeffrey, thank you. The Cubs are way better 32 years later since they won the pennant and World Series! Life is better now than it was since the Cubs won the World Series.

The nighttime "Wheel" in 1984 was in NYC, not seen on WLS' sister station WABC-TV, it was from 1983-89 seen on WCBS-TV.

And not until 1989, I think, did "Wheel" in NYC move to WABC - where it remains today.

I've lived on Chicago's southwest side my whole life, but I was born nearly five and and half years later. So it's nice to see how Eyewitness News and Wheel of Fortune were when my parents were watching all this on ABC affiliate WLS before they gave birth to a huge Wheel of Fortune fan. The show got rid of the shopping element before the eighties came to an end, and my parents aren't hardcore Wheel fans like I am, but my father told me that he remembers the shopping element quite well.

Meanwhile, as Kalber arrived at WLS, that station's onetime "weatherman jester," John Coleman, came to Kalber's old stomping grounds of WMAQ Channel 5, after 11 months (Sep 1983-Aug 1984) at WCBS Channel 2 in New York as had followed both his long "Good Morning America" stint and his early stewardship of The Weather Channel. I seem to remember Coleman was somewhat more subdued in NYC compared to WLS and, to an extent, even WMAQ. That, plus Channel 2 had other weathermen who got all the prime slots - Irv "Mr. G" Gikofsky and, since earlier in 1984, Dr. Frank Field (late of WNBC Channel 4 - Dr. Field's departure from that station was what propelled Al Roker to main weatherperson status).

Oh my God, it's Kim Peterson! If you lived in Atlanta in the late 1990s you heard the KImmer on 640-WGST. He's no longer on talk radio, basically because it's a slowly dying medium in the age of podcasting.

I was 13 during the summer of 84' growing up in the Twin Cities. Honestly, I was an American League guy (back when that actually mattered) but my Twins, like the Cubs were pretty much irrelevant in my lifetime. Having said that, in March of 84' we got cable and I was stoked to have Cubs and Braves games pretty much everyday. In a 6 month period, I fell in love with the Cubs that last to this day. Man alive, was that a fun season.
