Nordic RC Visions Same here, I have a few projects on at the same time, otherwise you have nothing to build while you wait for parts. I've just started a scratch built 54" (137cm) sports-fishing cruiser, I hope I finish it before I die!😂 I'm only fitting selective blue parts, you need some shock absorption in the system, otherwise it'll fold up like cardboard on the first hit. I definitely I'll keep the plastic chassis and the suspension arms are plenty strong enough. I might make some slightly bigger diameter shafts to remove the slack.

@@NordicRC Mikael, I send you the photos by Messager 🙂 Regarding the Gears o only the "spur" isn't metal; car A979B bought in May 2019 😉 Now, one Adviced... Beware of metal upgrades, namely the A arms, chassi and stability bar... you see, when you hit, as I did, at more then 70 km/h, metal will bend and break plastic parts and twist the metallic ones... which means that almost "everything" goes to the trash...🤔 There are some things that should be metal, but little things, like the hex adapter, the steering and diff cups, replacing bushes for ball bearings...; those are very important because it will make the car more steady...reducing the gaps ...🙂 In which concern to the plastic parts: chassis stock or carbon, A arms and some other components you can use the "WD40 trick"; just submerge the parts for 24 hours in WD40 they will become more flexible 😉

Will change the gears and all the basic stuff. If people are watching and interest is there, I can bring in some aluminium. I will list all parts and make instructional videos, though I probably just will use my own grease (but ordinary silicone grease or similar is available all over the net). I actually do not use any glue when threading screws into plastic - I just check the car before and after the run. But when fitting screws into metal I usually use some thread lock.

You might have noticed that the A959 and wpl servos are identical in size; have put my spare A959B Receiver board (uncased) and 5-wire servo in one B16. I also now have spare metal gear servos to hand if I ever want to upgrade mine or brothers a959bs, and then would have more spares for the WPL truck(s). Happy coincidence? ;) The same Wltoys transmitter also works with the 1/28 K989 receiver board (3 wire servo) for smaller cars rc - e.g. virhuck 1/32s if they ever fail / battery dies / upgradeitis.

Thanks for showing us! 👍... even though those of us who follow your videos know everything already about them 😉, you made a nice and well detailed parade. Really makes us eager to get them all. So, before delighting us with the announced upgrades, let me ask you a question: suppose I get an A959-A, plus a 1100 mAh Lipo battery (provided I already own a suitable charger), would it be like having both the -A and the standard version? Should I be concerned with the plastic shafts? Thanks in advance!
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mino73! Yeah, it's always a bit difficult this youtube thing, to do videos for both subscribers and new "random" viewers at the same time, who haven't seen any of the previous videos. But thank you. Yes, I guess it would be, although it could be suspected that the plastic shaft was upgraded to a metal shaft on the standard A959 (though not the A-version) for a good reason not long ago. I've not seen many people talking about the plastic shaft as a problem on the A959 though (only the gears, but they are the same on both the standard and the A and B version). But yes, basically, as far as I know, I can't see any difference on the car itself, performance wise, than the battery and the main shaft. And if the plastic shaft holds up good (I haven't had any trouble with the plastic shaft on my Magma A959 rebrand) the battery should make the only difference.

Got the wheel axle bearings ready too, and I am just working on an upgrade series (gears etc.) Later I also would like to mess around with the upper arms, maybe get some turn buckles for making some toe-in (which hopefully will make it go more straight). But I think that any metal added to the model will make it less durable (less flexible). But upgrading can be fun for it¨s own sake :-)
@hollyhillrc

I would go for the blue one because I think it looks the nicest, it's one of my favourite colours, and is the same blue as the football team I have supported for 50 years - Chelsea F.C. They are good enough reasons to choose that one in my opinion he he. I also think it is a good idea to have a stock model and another that you can upgrade to compare the difference with. That is similar to why I bought my DF-02 Gravel Hound just after my TT-02B Plasma Edge II. When I have built both I will be very interested to see how the TT-02B performs against it's DF-02 predecessor. A slightly different scenario but essentially the same reason. : ))
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think my current favorite is the blue bodyshell too. I will definitely use that one for the start of this upgrade project. Never was a big football fan but I can imagine the color combination immediately will be associated to something good if it is one's favorite team :-) Good enough reason yes :-) Ahh, yes, I need to do more comparing my TT-02B and DF-02 too. And I would looove watching your comparisons and hearing your thoughts as you test them out. I haven't discovered many differences in terms of handling. Seem very very similar, though my TT-02B seems a little more "nimble" and "agile" but that could be because of all that heavy alloy on my DF-02. Needless to say, the TT-02B should be a both lot more durable and a lot more practical to work on. When I've studied them myself, it seems like the TT-02B has all the "errors" and "weak spots" and "impractical design" of the DF-02 corrected (except for maybe the gears and stock drive train ball bearings). But the TT-02B still has some errors. Ohh well, if it didn't, it wouldn't be an affordable entry-level :-)

I'm addictive to it :-) So would absolutely love your comparison if you decide to take it to a video :-)

@@NordicRC The problem I have is I haven't got the DF yet. I bought it 2 weeks ago and the seller contacted me last weekend to apologise about it being late because he had been ill. He said he would post it soon. I am still waiting and I am hoping that I haven't been ripped off again. If it doesn't arrive today I will contact him tomorrow. It's a problem because I have a big list of parts that I want to order from RC Mart and I am waiting to see what it needs and add that to the list. A couple of the things I wanted are now out of stock there now. It's frustrating because their Tamiya parts are a lot cheaper than here in the UK, and if I buy a lot it's a big saving. Oh well, I will have to see what happens tomorrow I guess : ))

Hello there Mr. Nordic RC visions. I have a quick question on the 959 RC car, in your opinion, how much longer do you think this unit can stay on the market for? You think 2 more years? I know they have all those aluminum upgrades and stuff FOR the a959 B or A models for 2 years now. I'm about to purchase one with intentions of souping it up with many upgrades. Do you think they'll put something out that blows away the a959 thus rendering the model to be phased out of production? Your opinion would be much appreciated if you could get back to me. Thank you! D
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 жыл бұрын
Hi bro! Well, I’ve wondered about that too so I don’t have a good answer 🙂 I think it was first released in 2014, the standard version, and now it’s 2019. I think it has become so popular that after market parts will be available more than two years from now. And even if they stop production, there will be so many second hand models in the world, that it will still be easy to get parts (I think). Some day it will stop, but when, is up to, as you mention, a good new alternative and so far I haven’t really seen anyone, in the price range, that can offer more. Maybe when brushless motors become cheaper to produce than brushed motors, or metal parts will become cheaper, a chance for some other company (or WLToys themselves) will open to replace it. But I definitely think that both the cars and parts will be in production two years and even longer from now. It is still very popular.

Not tried the 6.4v LiFe with the A959. Don’t think it will run for long due to the build-in LiPo cut-off. I run my A-version with LiPo, but use an external LiPo alarm. I have a video with it in my channel.

Yeah, a common problem on both cheaper and more expensive models. You could try to shim them (with small shims/spacers) but it could easily cause the wheels to bind. Turnbuckles could also help. But I think it will be hard to get all the play away. Also, check your bearings/bushings. The more they wear out the more play in the wheels.

I'm very interesting about this "saga" you're doing with the A959 variants! I have some questions: 1. The upgrades puts the A959 blue/red in the same standard as the A959B green? Or the upgrades even do a better job than a stock A959B green? 2. The B green is faster, but does it makes it harder to control it? In that order of ideas, you preffer an upgraded blue or a stock green? Have a nice day, I'm waiting for more of this saga :D

Hi David! I definitely personally prefer the A959. 40 kph (which I measured it to) is perfect for this little buggy. The B-version (measured to 59 kph) is fun, but like, crazy fun, for speed runs etc. Quite difficult to control when at full speed as the steering has a mind of it's own at different speeds. Only one of the upgrades will put the A959 to the same standard as the B-version (namely the diff outdrives which are metal on the B and plastic on the standard). Apart from that, the dual wheel nuts (and of course the 540 motor, 540 motor mount, 540 pinion and 540 spur gear) are the only difference. So yes, upgrading the bushings, differential gears etc. will be the same upgrade on the A959 and the A959-B. Yes, I prefer an upgraded A959 over the A959-B. For me, the B-version is fun, but for control and the everyday run, the 390 motor and smaller gearing suits the car more. And keeps temperature down and run time and control up. I might have fun installing a 540 motor in it at some point though, I'm not sure. Let's see.

Seen a lot of people on youtube having trouble removing the pinion, yes. Probably screwed down with some of the hardest threadlock they could find :-) Maybe some heat could help loosen it. Ohh, well, a new motor to one of these doesn't cost more than a new pinion to one of the bigger models, so we will be alright :-) But yes, would have preferred that it was semi-easy to remove.

Not a bad Rc for the price...but save your self tons of money and time parts are time consuming by the time you are done ordering upgraded parts and the time used waiting for parts to arrive it will cost easy $300 a car I know this I have 3 of these cars fully upgraded. Not worth it IMO. With that said if your things is 1/18 go for Losi traxxas AE same price after with WLtoys upgraded parts NOTE: upgraded parts barely fits that’s another time consuming part. Also Upgrading to brushless systems you have to pay attention and read dimensions carefully Form motor size shaft motor mounts servo size etc..

Good perspective and tips, bro! But sometimes upgrading cheaper models can be fun in itself, even though one is ending up spending way too much, and more rational choices could be made. Love the projects, for the project itself. I do the same with a lot of my entry-level Tamiyas. Really not "rational" but great fun :-)
