If you're particular interested in the WLToys A959 and A959-B then check out Part 1 of a new in-depth comparison video series here: • WLToys A959-B vs WLToy...
I sure had fun this day and enjoying my new little GPS and my small test cars. I did encounter some difficulties getting the A979-B up to speed, since it gets a mind of it's own in high speed and any slight adjustment resulted in a roll over. I started with some one-handed driving but soon had to switch to a tripod for filming. Alas, I still do not think I reached it's maximum top speed. The A959-B takes some time getting used to in high speed, but eventually I managed to do some smooth runs.
Would love to hear your opinion about the WLToys High Speed Models, this speed test or any of your own experience with the cars. Next comparison ... could it be interesting to set the A959-B up next to a Traxxas Mini E-revo? Size comparison? GPS Speed Test? Jump competition?
Check out my channel for many more videos with RC models from Tamiya, Traxxas, HBX, WLToys, WPL and many more brands. Tips and tricks, unboxings, running videos, tests, reviews and more.

Haha - great fun to watch, Nordic RC Visions! They both seem a little too fast for their own good! ...but then you can always keep off the throttle when you need to - I see what you mean about the Monster Truck version - those taller tyres making it much more unstable. I would be happy if I was given either to play with though! Thumbs up Mikael :-)

Thanks, Mark! Yeah, those big tractor tires aren't really high speed material for such a tiny light weighted thing :-) The buggy is doing good though, compared to the price, size and speed. Luckily it mostly just spins around when one loses control with it. But it's hard not to press the throttle and just see what happens :-)

Thanks, Derek. Yeah, I'm mostly also only an occasional speed freak too. But when something like this arrives free by post, it's fun to check them out and test them. I was out running my Levant today. With NiMH batteries. Probably did around 25 kmph for real - and I used up 4-5 batteries and enjoyed myself :-) Anything between 10 kmph and 40 and I'm a happy man. Have a great Sunday too, Derek.

That would definitly help the A979-B! Some other tires would help too. And a stronger servo and servo saver perhaps. It really is difficult (impossible) to control, stock, when it reaches those 50+ kmph.

Fun toys for sure. I got the 979B. Already did some minor metal upgrades & added some LED lights for looks. Really thinking on getting the 959B soon. These are fun bone stock but can't really bash them without something breaking. Also buying parts takes awhile getting here in Honolulu. Thanks for your vid. The 959b looks promising.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the A959-B is great fun. The A979-B is fun too, just not as capable at high speed on tarmac with the big monster truck tires and the high ground clearence. They actually seem very durable to me and great for bashing. The 979 has taken a lot of tumbles on the tarmac (as shown in this vid) and I’ve bashed and jumped the A959 pretty hard (new video coming up this weekend) without anything broken. Fun toys like you said. Thanks for watching mate!

They both run amazing, I'm sure you can upgrade the tires on the truck also check if the servo horn or the servo arm has play if it does then thats why you can't keep it straight. Great video 👍
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. my friend. Yeah, I think tires are the key element. The buggy is much more controllable than the MT, and I suspect even better tires on the buggy could make it less prone to spinning. Servo, servo horn and adjustable turn buckles (for toe-in) could also help dramatically. But my spare time is limited, and I have my Tamiyas :-) The WLToys High Speed models are great fun, and I just wanted to test them out bone-stock. I see a lot of other people upgrading them dramatically though. Looks like fun projects.

When deciding between the monster truck and the buggy what are the pros and cons of both? Which should I buy? Which is better off road? How do they both handle? Which is the toughest? And most importantly which is the most controllable at full speed?
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion, the buggy with the smaller buggy tires wins it all. The wheels/tires are pretty much the only difference, but it keeps the gearing a little down and keeps the centre of gravity a little down too, which results in better control. The bigger MT wheels has more ground clearance for off road though.

Nordic RC Visions yeah I've seen people fake it here on youtube saying that it does 71kph on stock 2s yet their videos don't show them clearing out the gps speed reader to zero lol. Hi I would like to know one thing, I have both models and A959-B has more "stiff" differential, when I move with one wheel, all of them are spinning but on A979-B, the differential is flawless, spins only the opposite wheel. Did you notice this also? I am wondering if this is for purpose or it's just a thing on my specific A959 piece. Thanks!!
@NordicRC

Not sure. I think it’s the same differential. But maybe the grease is different. And sometimes it’s metal and sometimes not, on these b-versions. They are not known for consistency.

These two in the video, the B-versions, are the upgraded versions with the 540. Theoretically the A979-B should go a little faster with the larger tires/wheels (and therefore an increased gear ratio).

@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 жыл бұрын
Well, it all depends on the size. It's relative. A 780 motor is big for a 1/10 and a 540 or 380 is big for a 1/18. But I see that the 380 or 390 is becoming more and more common in 1/18th scale vehicles these days. But back then when this was released, in 2014, even a 390 was considered large for a 1/18th. Normally that's the size for the 1/12th scale.

Nice! Hope you’re having fun with it. The buttons on the remote are for trimming. One for steering (left/right) and one for throttle (forwards/reverse). So if your A959 steers a little to the left (without you steering it) you can trim it to the right. If your A959 moves a little forward or reverse (without you touching the throttle) you can trim it and find the neutral position.

Hi, i'm planning to get either of this 2, is it possible to upgrade it to a brush less motor? thank you!
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Hello J.D: Yeah, you can easily upgrade it to a brushless motor, although it would require you to change all the other electronics as well (radio, servo, esc). These come with a brushed 2-in-1 ESC/Receiver and a non-standard 5-wire servo, so if you change the motor to brushless you will have to change the ESC to brushless and get a new separate radio (receiver/transmitter) and standard servo that fits your receiver. Many of the pinion gears are hard to get off the stock motor, so you might need a new pinion too and preferably a steel one.

@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well, I think the standard A959 (which I have measured to around 40 kph, check out my other video series with it in my channel) would be a good beginner RC. But just take note that these small 1/18 cars will get in trouble quickly on rough off road terrain. And even 40 kph with a small 1/18 can seem fast for a beginner, but once you get a hang of it, it can be fun too. You definitely do not need to upgrade it to a brushless system right away. And brushed motors can actually be just as fast as brushless motors, it depends on the RPM specified on the individual motor. But brushless motors are good for getting some "punch" (torque, acceleration) and they are more durable/maintenance free and normally consume less battery (if set up against a brushed with the same RPMs). But an A959 will be an affordable way to try out a little hobby-grade RC car for the first time, that is at the same time fast.

Yeah, exactly the same except wheels/tires and body (and body mounts). The A959 and A959-B are defintily, in my humble opinion, better and more stable on the street. I'm not sure if the A979 is better off road, but it has more ground clearence and larger tires so in theory it would so better on rougher terrain. But it's a tumbling little car, and likes to flip/roll. The A959 is nice off road too, more stable with a lower center of gravity. @larrydommer9109
@larrydommer9109 4 жыл бұрын
Really curious how they cab achieve speeds that cars that cost twice as much can't. Would gutting the electronics, and putting them in a 1/12 or 1/10 be feasible. I have a brushless 1/10 scale truck that I got for $129, and by completely disassembling, and lubricating every moving part with either synthetic oil, or lithium Grease, and sanding out rough parts, and trying to balance the tires, that I can get 54 KM/H on a flat surface. I'd buy the 959B in a second if I could bump my 1/10 truck up to 64 KM/H by swapping in the 959B electronics.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well, it's a matter of the weight of the car, gear ratio, voltage and rpm of the motor. So if you put the same electronic set-up in another heavier car with a lower gear ratio, it will not go as fast. I think 54 is a good speed. Usually I set up my 1/10 brushless models up with a gear ratio of about 9:1 and to go about 35-45 kph. It's a good speed for both off road and on road. Not too fast, not too slow.
@larrydommer9109
@larrydommer9109 4 жыл бұрын
@@NordicRC I'm pretty aware of most of that. I started racing when speed controls were a wrapped copper tube with a servo slider. I had a gear drawer with at least 30 pinion and drive gears. Motors were all brushed and either 28 turn stock, or modified with armature winds as low as 12. Now I race (I shouldn't even say "race"). Now I run for fun and try to buy the chinese junk, and see if I can tune, and/or modify it to perform like the expensive stuff I claim I can't afford anymore. I'm glad I don't have to track The hours I have in my truck that I can squeeze 54KM/H out of. I'm sure you can empathize. Sometimes I'll spend all day or (all week-shhhh) working on something, only to come up with an innovation, that doesn't resemble the idea. Anyway - I've been thinking about this too long now. Thanks, the suspension is rather nice I think. Just needs proper oil filled dampers (some say the stock ones have o-rings and everything so you can actually just apply oil to the stock ones). Apart from that tires, a stronger servo and servo saver and adjustable turn buckles for toe-in could help dramatically. But I don't think these will run 70 kmph. In most of the speed runs I've seen they wind out at 50-60 kmph. I did have some very straight and long runs with the A959-B buggy here. With a completely fresh battery I suspect it could go past 60 mph. I've seen a few (very few) that measures them to 70-71 kmph, but 90% is below or around 60 kmph, with the stock set-up.

You need a longer run up
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think so. Since it is so light weighted it winds out pretty quickly even with the high gearing. It's very easy to hear/see/feel when running it. GPS tested it lot's of times, also with loner run up (see other videos). All the other channels (that I trust) measure it to the same speed (56-60 kph).

My personal opinion, A979B only travels 53kmh due to weight, the 4 tires are bigger, affects the weight of the rc
@NordicRC
@NordicRC Жыл бұрын
Ahh, not sure the little extra weight would have such an impact. In fact bigger tire diameter should, theoretically, increase the top speed compared to the buggy tires. Problem is center of gravity and ride height.

I am not able to help you with questions regarding prices and shipping, sorry. Just re-distributing the non-affiliate link from the dealer that send me the model for tests, for those that are interested knowing where I got it from. You need to direct questions to the dealer.

Nice! Yeah, it’s fine! Well, to be honest I just make RC videos. It’s a hobby, a passion. Most of my stuff I buy myself.
