this ghazal was written by Naseer Turabi in 1971. he wrote this ghazal after India separated Bangladesh from West Pakistan. the author mentioned Bangladesh as his #humsafar. it was never a couple-centric romantic song but a geopolitical ghazal!

We never had trust issues, we were just different. 💔💔💔💔💔 That is the theme of this song. 💔💔💔💔💔 The song was written for Bangladesh (The then East Pakistan) after separation. This song was first written in memory of the split of Pakistan after the independence War of East Pakistan now Bangladesh in 1971. It was sung by the great singer of the South Asian Region Abida Parveen. The old school tune may be was relevant at that era but the new melodious tune given by Quratulain Baloch took this song at the next level. Both countries common people are now realising that, how unfortunate it was to be split. The song depicts exactly the reality of the relationship of both nations. East Pakistan didn't want to be split but as a distant state they really needed Self Rule. The Military Junta of West Pakistan suddenly at midnight started a completely unnecessary Military Operation in the then East Pakistan now in Bangladesh. That and that was the blow turned a Self-Rule Movement within hours into an Independence War. The newly arrived army had no clue about the situation in the East Pakistan and was completely misguided by the Superiors. The Junta and his Generals lied the ground force and provoked them to be hostile. They attacked the common people. Burned the Slams where babies were sleeping with mothers. They entered in the Uni Female Hostels, then ra*ped and hanged the girls naked with the ceiling fans. Then they attacked Firemen for waving the State Flag. Then they attacked the Police HQ and forwarded to attack East Bengal Regiment in the Army Cantonment. There the war started. All in the name of controlling the rebels. After 9 months Freedom Fighter surrounded West Pakistan Army which was Punjab Regiment. Indian Punjabi Army entered then and within 13 days they rescued the ambushed Pakistani Punjabi Army after their Surrender to Indian Army. If they had captured by the East Bengal Regiment, they all would have faced Court Marshal. Pakistan was split into two countries. Two United Nations fought for freedom from colonisation together and built a country yet both were split with satisfaction. The two nations Bengali Muslims and todays Punjabi Muslims are really very different, not like minded, we achieved so much in the past together but for a brief period we forgot we were partners, because we're different. We fought WWII together, we fought Riot in 47 together, 1757 Revolt, and two centuries long movement against British together. So we split and still both sides can't sleep in peace for a single night today. We never had trust issues, we were just different. So many inter racial couples of these two country's separation and life's tragedy were exactly the same of their own countries. We can't even make love anymore and we rarely meet each other on our way now and rarely do we fall in love again. That war split us giving a deep wound we can't forget. Only Allah knows when we'll be able to remember the past when we were holding hands together and our love created wonders on earth if only that happens ever. You can't really be a winner defeating the most loved ones. We never had trust issues, we were just different. That is the theme of this song.
