I like how they took a little throw away line Zoro had in the manga/anime about being approached to join Barouque Works and turned it into a whole scene and showing us Mr. 7 who we never got to see before. A good way to expand the lore without contradicting anything.

stealing a comment from another video for some clarifications: Luffy’s scar context was shown in the first chapter on the first page of the manga. The difference between first episode and chapter are soo different from each other. Also Zoro’s fight with Mr. 7 was an off-screen fight. In Whiskey Peak, Zoro told the Baroque Works people that he was invited back then but he turned it down. Mr. 7 was the guy that invited him. There's obviously going to be a lot of changes. After all its an adaptation, not a 1:1 retelling, ya know.

Keep in mind, that they adapted the Manga not the Anime, so there are certain things that went differently in the mange vs the anime!

The changes were 10/10 and absolutely necessary. Imagine if luffy found the fruit in public and ate it. Would’ve made almost no sense. The changes appeal to both fans, but also non-fans because it fits the live action adaptation. I would’ve been annoyed if they tried to adapt the story 1 to 1, because it wouldn’t fit live action. They’re staying true to the canon, soul, and the source material, with slight timeline changes (which is good). The show is currently rated 94% on rotten tomatoes, well deserved best show on Netflix right now imo I also love this iteration of luffy. It stays true to the character of luffy strong, caring, and kind, yet serious when he needs to be. This is who luffy is, and they nailed it perfectly.

I enjoyed this series. I hope it gets a season 2. A couple of flaws, but loved it

IMO the best anime live action since Rurouni Kenshin !! Also I like how Matt Owens an the rest of the writing stuff lean in to the wacky world of one piece, I feel that's the only way this show can ever work. And lastly I was already sold on the SH's base of the trailers but now I'm sold on all the other characters.

Have only seen the 1st episode, but I really liked it. There where changes, but to me they where not bad. They made sense for the story this episode had. Wanted to say 7/10, but that ending was 8/10. Buggy was just TO FREAKING GOOD.

I've been the same as all the other reacts Ove' watched so far, new to the series with this live action being my introduction to One Piece. Awesome to watch a fan react and see your impression of everything. I loved the series, so excited to see how well it was done and received. Treating an IP with respect and passion = success? How knew? lol Well, an easy formula but one that seems to have been spat on by so many others in recent years. Can't wait for season 2! and definitely makes me want to watch the anime now.

Only disappointment, as you pointed out, was Benn Beckman. He looked better than Shanks mostly, what did they do to him. Don't they know he has too many fans without any lines?

The thing is, they had to fit a TON of content into just 8 episodes, so they definitely had to combine a lot of plot events together while still keeping the story coherent.

They changed some stuff from the manga/anime so ur not remembering things wrong they just changed it to slightly different so it’s not a 1 to 1 copy.

Ah. So remember what i said when the first trailer came out? This wasn't in the beginning, but was said by Oda himself to have happened while Luffy and Koby were sailing away from Alvida. This is the OG Mr 7 that Zoro killed to get the bounty, and that led him to Shells Town.

Regarding that Zoro scene at the beginning: In the manga, Zoro talked about this encounter where Baroque Works attempted to recruit him and he killed the original Mr. 7. It was never shown in the anime or manga, just talked about. I like that Oda had them show the scene for the live action though.

I binged watched the season in one day and I must say, I was skeptical at first due to how much they were trying to adapt into so little time but I actually loved it, also there’s a little trick to make it less difficult to digest. The Japanese dub, has the same voice actors as the anime so it makes it feel more authentic if you find the transition from anime to live action a little bit weird

It's crazy that chapter 1,anime episode 1 and LA episode 1 are completely different from one another.

Something that I really liked after watching all the season already, that I thought that I would dislike if they did it too much, without giving spoilers, is that most of the things they changed or that they took out completely were the perfect choices, because they were things that I didn’t know weren’t important for the story or that they wouldn’t affect the feeling of it until they changed it or took it out. Overall I loved that, and that alone showed me how careful they were on the details and the work they put into this, and the evidence that proves that many people agree is how successful this was because at this point, we can definitely say this Live Action was a success and I can’t express the happiness I feel about that as a long time fan. When i finished it all I cried out of happiness because they really did a great job. I’m not saying its perfect, just to be clear, but it definitely exceeded everyones expectations.

i liked it. i guess my only issue is with luffy's minor character changes. like he's way more positive and motivational, like he offers wisdom and coaches people on finding the right path. which anime luffy does, but not like this. live action luffy cares about people's dreams, while anime luffy didn't really care. when koby asked if he thought he could make it into the marines luffy was like "how am i supposed to know?" i don't remember that scene with zoro either with number 7, but i do remember when zoro fought baroque works at whiskey peak he mentioned somebody trying to recruit him. maybe that scene was made specifically for the show. i guess this luffy is less oblivious as anime luffy. that and when anime luffy says "i'm gonna beat this guy" it's not from a place of being positive and being confident, anime luffy really thinks he can do it. live action luffy gives off new agey, positivity is key, everything will work out because of karma type vibes.

This first season was a full success for a Live Action. Don't try to remember in compare to the Manga/Anime, many things gonna be different but it's fine, the adaptation is really good. A Season 2 is already on the way (maybe for the Arc of Alabasta). As a mangareader of OP since the beginning in 1997 until now , Oda made a really good Live Action of his Masterpiece.

I liked your reaction but expecting everything to be exactly like the anime is kinda crazy.. they took everything from the manga so the first part with zoro is actually canon and was mentioned by him in whiskey peak in the anime. From what ive seen everyone didnt have a problem with all the changes and you somewhat didnt either but saying I dont remember this in the anime like 5 times was annoying ngl☠

My thoughts on the series: I think they made a bad choice with Koby's actress. That's one the biggest stain on this live action series. I also think Usopp's acting is terrible in the sad/sentimental scenes. He's okay with the silly scenes, but his acting is weak and awkward in the heavier scenes. Which are highly important and impactful scenes for his character. For example: When it returns from his flashback scene and he says "Why won't anyone believe me? **sniff**" The whole scene feels incredibly fake and bad. It feels like when adults mock a child for crying over something insignificant. Lol I think they could've did better with the choice for Shanks' actor, or at least make him not look like a random cheap cosplayer. Nami's actress is okay, but as some pointed out, she's too old. She looks in her 30's, but she's only supposed to be 8 years older than her child flashbacks. I could list all of what I like, but it would make this comment way too long.

Just like many others, even I was hella skeptical about this, because from EVERYONE's experience LAs based on animanga are 90% of the time awfully adapted. I don't mind the changes, expansions we got and a more different story telling in regards to some details. Changes are fine as long as everything at the core stays the same, which in my opinion should be the transfer of emotions and info we know from the original. Thankfully that was the case here too and very happy about that! Also, love your reactions as always.

The show is based on the manga. The anime also was actually not 100% faithful to the manga.

SPOILERS The acting was bad, I hate they took away a lot of the heart from the anime, hate how emo Zoro was for the first 4 episodes. Hate they made Mihawk gay, it's confusing why Garp had a Scottish accent while Luffy is clearly South American. I understand they rearranged some events but having Garp so early takes away a lot, hate they took away the little kids in Usopps arc, hate they removed hypno dude from that arc, Octopus guy isn't in it, the Joy Boy foreshadowing is out of places and feel forced...... Having Garp takes away the Dragon drop, also it took away of the scene with everyone knowing Garp is the legendary hero and end up being Luffy's Grandpa, Ben looks like a throw away character, Roo doesn't feel threatening... As I said they took away a lot of heart from the anime, the scene with Shanks losing arm was a more touching moment as he lost his arm as he saved Luffy sacrificing his arm and they are in the waters. They took away the little scene with Zoro, I hate that they removed of Nami's village knowing her sacrificed and then secretly knowing about it, taking away Zoro's Hunter brothers, the little dog and the mayor interaction, how Chef actually lost his leg..... These scenes is how we got attached and felt their heart from the original crew.... Also didn't like how they handled the Mihawk Fight and the aftermath, they took away the scene of Arlong seeing Zoro's scars........ With all that said it's still serviceable, it's enjoyable, as bad as the acting was it got a little bit better and Koby, Kaya, Nami and Luffy actors were actually decent. It's still fun to watch and would want a season 2. The vfx is actually good for TV. The fighting scenes are good and well coordinated. I would give it about 6.6 out 10. Would I recommend it? Not to everyone but to some yes. Netflix needs to give them a bigger budget for season 2. Also missing laughed out moments.
