I used to eat at his restaurant in Vancouver. I remember once we had family come visit us from out of town and my uncle was also in town as he was in the navy and his restaurant was closed that day but he opened it up and cooked a special meal himself just for our family. He was a really nice man and family meant the world to him.

I remember eating at his restaurant in the 80s with my dad a couple times. I guess it didn't do so well and went it shut down we were all disappointed. One time when we were paying Stephen didn't have money in the till for change so he got his wallet out and gave my dad change out of his own pocket. I remember my dad, an accountant, saying he could have him shut down on the spot for doing that. Anyways, I was pretty young but I seem to remember loving their food and his show was the first cooking show I watched and he got me interested in cooking. Hope you're well Stephen

Cooking shows used to be low budget and didn't need bells and whistles. They served a purpose to help housewives and mothers by showing easy to approach meals to make their family for dinner. Now cooking shows are purely for entertainment purposes and are intimidating. Food Network is a disgrace.

This was a staple on Canadian Television when I was a kid and came home from school! It made me sooooo hungry watching! This was the first cooking show I watched and glad to find again on KZfaq. I love the teaspoon measures and videos of China or China Town! The wiki page has a list of all his WOK Pun apron saying....en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wok_with_Yan He is not related to Chinese American chef Martin Yan of the PBS series Yan Can Cook, though Martin was an employee and had worked for Stephen Yan in the 1980s as demonstrator for Stephen's products. Who else has a craving for this now?!

Light racism aside, really a wonderful, informative show with an incredibly dymamic personality. My father grew up watching this guy and speaks fondly of this program. He still uses many of the techniques he learned from watching this program. Growing up in smalltown southern Ontario he wouldn't have necessarily had many opportunities to learn these lessons. Also, I want all of those excellent aprons.
