After a 3 month hiatus from posting a video because of the wildfires, follow along as I fly to San Luis Obispo to meet up with a pilot friend and his Grumman Tiger.
Afterwards we get a chance to determine whose Grumman Tiger is the fastest.

LOL. What Wolficorn fails to tell you is I flew IFR and he flew VFR. That means I took a much longer time to get turned around back the other way.

One thing I miss about California is the weather. When I was stationed at NAS Moffett in Northern California, my wife and I would take the club C-172 and fly down to San Luis Obispo to visit Hearst Castle, then fly over to Pismo Beach to camp on the airport and hang out at the boardwalk. Great memories!

This summer/fall has been pretty terrible for flying b/c of all the wildfires. It's not back to normal yet but much much better. San Luis is a great airport and beautiful area. I love flying there.

Glad to see another video. When the first of the fires sent smoke over here to Utah, I had to cancel a flight with the wife due to 3 mile or less visibility. Always better to be wishing you were in the air, than wishing you were on the ground!

@Wolficorntv
@Wolficorntv 3 жыл бұрын
I dunno but I typically fly "slow" in mine to for fuel economy. I'm usually at 2500-ish rpm in cruise. The xtra speed you gain from flying redline usually isn't worth it to me.

@@Wolficorntv Bryan, does your Tiger have the IO360 or O360? and are you normally LOP or ROP? I cruise my DA40 (also an IO360) LOP at 2450 rpm (the PowerFlow supposedly has a productive resonance at 2450) or sometimes at 2200 rpm (quieter and even more efficient). As always, a very enjoyable and well-produced video. Thx! Wayne
@N1120A
@N1120A 3 жыл бұрын
@@GeezerGeekPilot Bryan's plane would be difficult to fly LOP, as it has 2 magnetos and no fuel injection. My plane can be run successfully LOP, despite being carburated, because I added a SureFly electronic ignition on one side. Still won't run as smoothly as when ROP, but it will pull about 2600 RPM at 8.5-9 GPH. I've been sort of a guinea pig for him in deciding what to do, and my experience has been mixed, though mostly positive. When I fly ROP, I'm burning 10.5-11 GPH at 2700 RPM and will fly 140 knots true.
@GeezerGeekPilot
@GeezerGeekPilot 3 жыл бұрын
Alireza, good info. In my DA40 (IO360) I also swapped one magneto for electronic ignition (ElectroAir in my case) and it did make LOP easier and smoother... and because of the advanced timing, improved TAS with increasing density altitude. Wayne

What's the cost in gas for that round trip?
@Wolficorntv
@Wolficorntv 3 жыл бұрын
Doing the math, it's about 2.5 hours roundtrip, Tiger averages 9 gal/hr=22.5 gallons, average avgas around here is $4/gal. Total: $90. To do that same trip in my Jeep it would cost about $68 and take 6.5 hours.
