Wollemi National Park is one of the most rugged and wild parks of New South Wales, Australia. Since 2001, a team of archaeologists, Aboriginal community members and bushwalkers has discovered and documented hundreds of archaeological sites, many with magnificent drawings, stencils, paintings and engravings in sandstone rock shelters and on rock platforms.
Although they are believed to have been made hundreds and, in some cases, thousands, of years ago they remain significant for Aboriginal people today.
In this film the spitituality of some of the art, the Wollemi landscape and Aboriginal culture is explored through the thoughts and ideas sparked by visits of the most important sites, Eagles's Reach and Gallery Rock.
In the process, a pilgrimage-like journey is undertaken with a strong conservation message.

Remarkable. I’ve never heard such relevant and deeply affect philosophical words before until now.

the philosophical parts to me seem like modern bullshit... like the stuff some modern Native Americans are so full of... they are inflicting their romantic modern notions on the past... some of the symbol interpretations seem real though...

@@flipflopski2951I agree, it’s hard to filter through the rubbish and the truth sometimes as it’s so muddled up. But the connection to the land is undeniable for Aboriginal people, the country tells you the important things people tell you rubbish and lies so it’s hard to know who to trust

I think my dad might have been one of the bushwalkers who found Eagle's Reach. I remember he came back very excited about a cave they'd found in the Wollemi with paintings. They told National Parks who asked them to keep quiet about it.

Miriam. There were six bushwalkers from Sutherland Bushwalking Club who found Eagles Reach in November 1995. Including my father Don Rice. I have all their names and track notes. My father also went back in October 1996 with other bushwalkers. What was your father's name?

Hi Paul. great documentary been watching a lot of your work and very interested in Aboriginal rock art . I actually believe from my own research that our past friends hold so much wisdom and teaching. I'd be very interested in having a chat with you. I would very much like permission to view some of this article and meet with some elders. Kind regards Rhian McKenzie

My Uncle Tex has walked into the spirit world in the sky camp. You should respectfully add a disclaimer to people that they may see images of family members that have passed in this video. Could you please add that in for all the extended family kin. Thank you.

Somebody's got to tell this modern guy that the concept of nature or mother nature is anachronistic... there was nothing to compare or contrast... nature was their reality...

It just does not hang together. Some lines and depictions not appear ancient but have a contemporary visualisation creeping in

How would anyone draw an eagle or kangaroo, using ochre? I've been to the site and can see, clearly that it is authentic. Some of the art is in charcoal, faded with a white reoutline, its clearly extremely old.. and consistent with all the other sites I have seen in the area.
