I was in Savannah and Charleston over the Christmas holiday. Savannah is so beautiful and we had the best weather! Everything was great (food, people, architecture, learning about the history, ghost tours etc). Everything was awesome…and it was nice to get away from the freezing Chicagoland weather!!!! I would definitely go back ❤️

One thing to add: expounding about how you do things "up north" or "back home" or whatever will not be well received. We don't care how you do it up north. I would add to what Mark said - June and September can get miserable with the humidity also. And on the coast keep in mind the possibility of hurricanes from August through October.

100 times yes on the manners. There are several meanings of "Bless your heart," depending on tone. If your mom told me that she was sick, "I'd say, 'bless your heart,' in an empathic tone. "Bless your heart" said in a sarcastic tone...you know what that means. Oh, and don't talk about how much better Philly or Chicago are...Delta Airlines is ready when you are. Another....don't assume Atlanta is a southern city. It isn't. There's Atlanta and then there's Georgia. Boiled peanuts are better than you'd think....wife hates them, though.

As a Georgian (and a HUGE Bulldogs fan), I must say you’ve more or less hit this on the head. Everything in this is right, except for the thing that we don’t use instant grits. Rarely if ever does anyone have the time to make the good, stovetop grits that take FOREVER to make, but they are better. I suppose you usually can get that kind in restaurants though.

About driving in Atlanta you are absolutely right. Not only is it crowded but people drive really aggressive on the connector (75/85). But i would also recommend taking advantage of the Marta especially if you want to get outside of Atlanta because it will take you pretty far and you can take it right from the airport. Just don't take it at night.

Bless your heart (nice version), coming from a Massachusetts snowbird who lives in Savannah for half the year, you are AGAIN pretty spot on. My comments as a Snowbird (who lives about 2 miles from Davy's Fruit and Veggie Stand) are as follows: some of us don't like the wet peanuts, the pollen is CONSTANT (called the Savannah Crut here) so buy alot of Benedryl, we've been coming for three years and luckily have yet to see a flying cockroach but recently found the giant Herculum (?) beetles who luckily are harmless, bug spray is needed ALL THE TIME as the knats love warmish weather, and thanks for the lovely shots of our beloved Savannah. Our gorgeous city is well worth visiting and your great shots show that. Thanks again. And yes, the islands of Simon, Jekyll and Dufuskie are wonderful!

I live in Georgia, born here as well. Always found it amusing people ask for 'Un-sweet" tea. There's no such thing, it's just tea. Un-sweet sounds like it was sweet at first, then you took the sweetness out of it. It's tea by itself, or tea with sugar added.

One VERY important "don't", which really applies to any place on the planet: do NOT come from another part of the country and compare Georgia unfavorably to where you are from; you do not have to think Georgia is the best place to be, just use good manners. Just as it is rude to go to someone home and criticize the decor (even if it is truly ghastly), it is beyond the pale to come here and do nothing but criticize. If you find Georgia so inferior, well the are several solutions- the top two being I-85 and I-75 north.

I was born (one of the few who was born there and lived there) in Atlanta and lived there the first 30 years of my life. Don't expect everyone to have a Southern accent in Atlanta, because not many people do. Also, Atlanta is a real international city, we have people from all around the world there, so you can get a lot of authentic world cuisine there. Another thing, don't call Atlanta "hotlanta." No one calls it that. We do, however, call it the ATL (spell it out).

Back when I was an o t r driver, I always felt cheated if I had to go to the South and did not get any boiled peanuts. The good news is that they are not too hard to make. Start off with unshelled raw peanuts. Then you just boil them for couple 3 hours. You can put whatever seasonings you want in the water.

@@johnburnett5377Had the misfortune of doing two PCS’s in Georgia (ugh). It’s still two distinctly separate societies-one for the white people, another for anyone who looks different, speaks differently, or believes in non-evangelical religion. Skip the faux wine tours,‘ it’s some bizarre mix of banjo music and grapes, with a sing along to “Dixie”if one can imagine such a congress!

Now I definitely agree when it comes to all the bugs except for one thing. There are no little bugs inside the Spanish moss if it's hanging living from the trees. Now big piles of it that have been laying on the ground rotting and dying is a completely different story but have you ever ended up getting bitten by Spanish moss bugs after touching it? That's an old wives tale in fact Spanish moss was wonderful for seat cushions for cars and used in mattresses for a long time You can actually boil Spanish moss and though I wouldn't suggest it it is edible and honestly it's not moss at all it's an air plant it's actually in the bromeliad family. One of my hobbies is growing Spanish moss as well as air plants and actual moss and yes I am a Florida woman but that just means if we can survive Florida we can survive anywhere. And yes everybody is brave until they realize that the roach can fly. Damn things! But there are no colonies of bugs hanging out in living thriving tree swaying Spanish moss. You have a better chance of getting bitten up by little teeny tiny bugs by rolling around in some of the beaches then you do grabbing the Spanish moss off the trees and using it for a makeshift mattress or blanket in an emergency situation as long as you do not go after the dead dying decaying piles that maybe hanging out in lazy hipsters front yards.
