Film description: Seeking solace from his dark past, James "Logan" Howlett, better known as Wolverine, seems to have found love and contentment with Kayla Silverfox. @@Kitchdmn3 That's the point. In 3 minutes you learn that, even though they went through the same events, Logan and Victor turned out very different. In WW2, he had taken the Nazi soldiers' weapon and was now killing unarmed soldier. Later in Nam, he was killing other unarmed people. The film is showing you the progression of how evil and animalistic he's becoming. Long story short, they're telling you he's a bad guy by showing him doing bad things.

@@explosionsandstuff7787 Armed or not I wouldn't really consider it evil to slaughter nazi's,whether they are armed or not. Point is that they were trying to kill him and the other soldiers seconds before. And do you really think these 'unarmed nazi's' wouldn't have tried to mow sabretooth down if the roles were reversed and he was the one without a gun. It's kill or be killed in war, civility goes out the window. The part that implies Sabretooth is becoming more and more evil is that by his facial expression you can tell he enjoys killing, regardless if it's an enemy or ally.

@@Kitchdmn3 I actually don’t think they were Nazis. You have to understand in WWII Germany the normal military established before the Nazis was part of their army, too, while the Nazi Party instilled additional forces inside the military more clearly and steadfastly loyal to them (the SS for example). I somewhat doubt the soldiers merely manning bunkers at a beach Hitler did not even expect to be attacked at that time were SS or some other special unit. That’s not to say normal army grunts of Germany then couldn’t have been loyal Nazis, only that we do not know with everyone. What we do know is MANY of the military officers over men like that winded up betraying and trying to assassinate Hitler and end the Nazis. And I’m willing to bet many of the normal soldiers who were in the army since the late 1930s probably had no clue how much evil the Nazis were doing in their homeland, considering many were never in Germany but got sent to North Africa and were deployed subsequently in countless other nations (like occupied France here) never knowing the full extent of what the Nazis were up too. Just something to keep in mind…not ALL Germans, even soldiers, were necessarily aholes even in WWII, and could’ve just been ignorant pawns.

Maybe the narrative can go like this: they join the wars to fight/topple evil but every time they get tempted by it. While Logan overcomes evil Victor slowly becomes it. In the end logan must defeat his brother to prevent him from causing more horror in the world. They can use the peacetime periods to develop their characters and create tension as their personalities diverge.

I suspect that despite being WWII when Viktor started showing animalistic behavior and locking his humanity away, it was WWI when he started creaking. That war was not short from horrifying and in Omaha they're just arriving. Going to show that despite him being physically stronger, Logan's resilience was on another level and that's why Striker chose him for the Weapon X experiment. The only one capable of surviving so much pain.

@@NR-fd9wv To a degree. But in 'Nam they were sent to a place where THE COMMON FOLKS hated them and actively tried to kill them. They had suicide children bombers. The vietnamese used psychological warfare tricks like killing all soldiers in a group in their sleep and living just one alive so that he would wake among the corpses of his friends and live to tell it to other people. On the american's behalf, they were using the infamous "Agent Orange", napalm, and phosporus grenades, literally burning people alive. All wars had their fare share of atrocities for sure, but Nam is probably the one that made infantry soldiers experience firsthand some of the most horrific stuff. WWII had some incredible atrocities, but the most shocking stuff happened in camps and prisons, rather than on the battlefield.

It would be ironic if Victor and Logan as Canadians, crossed the US border to enlist in a Michigan infantry regiment to fight in the American Civil War. That would have made them the original Michigan Wolverines, since that nickname was first appiled to Michigan troops in that war before being appiled to the states college football team in the 1890s. It was the Michigan General Armstrong Custer, who invoked the Wolverine name "Come on you Wolverines" when leading a Michigan calvary brigade at the battle of Getttsburg that defeated a flanking attack by Confederate General Jeb Stuart.

This is what is admirable about Logan. He's a capable killing machine, yet he doesn't enjoy it. You see him express disgust, even worry, over what his bother is turning into. Victor, equally as capable and violent, yet killing means nothing to him, you can see he actually enjoys it. And considers his younger brother as weak for not having the same bloodlust. But that is how evil always is, and thus the people who practice it. They view things like goodness and decency as naive and as weakness, and hate those who do not run in the same course.

Did nobody question who these guys were and how they managed to survive all these supposedly mortal wounds? I get the suspension of disbelief, but at some point you think the military would know who they are, given they'd have taken photos of them both when they enlisted in WW2 at least. How and why they joined again for Vietnam is baffling. Also, Logan has gone a long way from retired Military veteran in the late 60s in Vietnam to a mobsters bodyguard in 1973.

All of these wars involved mass-drafting US citizens due to a shortage of soldiers, and considering these two (presumably) always roam around and never settle in one place for long, maybe they enlisted in each war from different areas or states, and due to said shortage of soldiers no one really checked.

They were cannon-fodder soldiers. Nobody in high command would know their names or pay any attention. And any who did, and perhaps gave them a medal for bravely charging into the enemy trench, likely died later in the war or retired before the next one. Plus as someone else mentioned, it's easy to just swap out your name, especially when mass conscription is happening.

@@Volkaer Nah. These sorts of guys are how legends get made. Think back to the soldiers who won the MOH in any conflict. Their names are emblazoned everywhere. These 2 would be household names for their repeated acts of bravery, especially if they enlisted and started fighting after Pearl Harbour and were doing it for 2 1/2 years at this point. And at some point, someone is going to question how they finish the battle without a mark on them, no bruise, cut, scratch, anything, even after they visibly take gunfire and their uniform is probably littered with bullet/shrapnel holes.
