Different strokes, I guess. My understanding is that these colors are truer to BWS’ original vision. BWS did tweak the colors for the original single issues to account for the newsprint, but then Marvel never adjusted the colors for subsequent editions and trades on non-newsprint paper - despite BWS offering to advise - until this edition. This collection was overseen by Cory Sedlmeier, Marvel’s longtime restoration and archival expert in charge of the Masterworks restorations. I received the book today and am blown away. It feels truly prestige in presentation. The paper is not bright white, but rather a very subtle eggshell/off-white. Semi-gloss with a decent weight. This is honestly easily one of my favorite Marvel collected editions in a very long time - and I buy a lot of Marvel books. Superb job to all involved.

@@kamikawakak Respect. I’m a professional art director working in silkscreen printing. In case I misspoke, I was not saying the new colors are 1:1 as originally presented. Nor do I believe they were intended to be as this was not being printed on newsprint. Only that Marvel have finally properly adjusted the colors rather than use the same oversaturated levels that have been in all later reprints to date. Ultimately the original single issues remain king. Just a matter of opinion, and to me, I think Cory and the team did great work here. Far better than what’s collected in the Wolverine vol 1 omnibus.

@@kamikawakak I’ve no skin in the game, only bringing up the team who worked on it because they are well respected for their restoration work and have been working on the Masterworks restorations for… ever, so Marvel did put an effort in. It’s even called out specifically in the solicit. I have seen that Kayfabe episode and just compared the paperback pages they reference with the new edition and there is quite clearly a difference in color. I’d say the new colors are actually a nice middle point between the original issues and the previous editions. The colors and tones are not near as rich and feel, in my opinion, properly formulated for the new paper stock used. You can especially tell in the greens of the beer bottles and Cornelius’ shirt in the lower left. As well as Logan’s shading on his face in panel 5, and the yellow of the card. The contrast in color is not as severe and doesn’t vibrate as much. I respect we’ll just be at a stalemate on the point. That said, we definitely agree the original issues look the best, and this BWS completely killed it top to bottom with this story. Nice having this dialogue with you, man. @@Spleemce So, an update. I ended up buying it, because I thought, for 50 bucks...if it sucks, I can always sell it for $40, or whatever. The colors are better. There is a noticeable difference. I have the originals, the 1st print of the hardcover and 1st print of the tpb. The colors in the floppies are the best, but the ink bleeds because of the newsprint paper. The colors on the hardcover and tpb are awful. The colors in this make for a good reading experience. In an ideal world, BWS would have recolored it in watercolor (or submitted his original watercolors) like they did for Batman: Year One, by Richmond Lewis. Have you seen their recolors? Magnificent. OR, just have an authentic Artist Edition by either IDW or Graphitti Designs (but that ain't happening). This book is worth the investment. I am happy for getting this, truly.

I’m with you. I find most omnibus collections to be too thick and unwieldy. Issues with binding are quite common and the amount of pages make it a silverfish paradise. I’m a sucker for any type of prestige edition: Gallery, box set, Absolute, etc.

It takes place before his first appearance in Hulk but I tend to read it between the Muir Island saga and Claremont & Lee's X-Men 1 - 3.

I would say so since the first printing was that one off Malaysian printer with the square spines.

Ok so it’s kinda hard to explain because of all the retcons that have been going on after this so let me see based off my interpretation. Spoilers: From what i read in this series is that Logan seemed to have lost his way in life before they kidnapped him. We was trying to find purpose but didn’t find any so he tried becoming a drunk and probably contemplating suicide. He was picking fights in bars and other places cause he wanted to get a warriors death only for him to fail because of his mutant healing factor. He mentions something about a mother but it seems like he doesn’t know or remember who she was so his loss in memory was before Weapon X and they probably made his memory worse due to the devices they tried to use to control him like the helmet and those heavy wires and battery packs. I gotta keep reading but this is the way i see it. Hope this somewhat helps.

Ohh and i forgot to mention that the professor of weapon X was speaking to someone or sending a message but so far from what i read is not revealed who but whoever the professor was talking to knew about Logan more than the professor himself and perhaps more. I hope i find out who one day.
