In Asian countries it’s common to live in your parents’ house (usually one son) It’s a win-win situation. You help them out while they take care of your children ( free daycare with love) while you’re at work AND.. supper is on the table made by the adult son’s mother. America has it screwed up.

@PalaniRides I think the Italian version translates to "mama's boy." But Mamon in Spanish is 'to suck' and usually when speaking Spanish, people will say "no seas mamon" like "don't be a d*ck". Can also be interpreted as 'gay' for 'sucking d*ck'. It truly depends on how it's said.

In a lot of eastern cultures it’s very very normal for a wife and husband to live in the same household as their in-laws. The in-laws take care of the kids and the younger parents.. And cycle repeats itself. They actually save a lot more money doing this, then going broken into debt to prove that they are independent and successful. Many cultures prefer a Family over that type of freedom.

On its face it looks like the husband is a mama's boy, however I think this is a nuanced thing. You look at it from the perspective of if his mother really does need assistance moving around not everybody is comfortable with having nurses in home to take care of their family members (which could have been an option ) but it's also costly. My own mother is going through chemotherapy treatments and if she were five states away I would not resist going out there to try and help her best I can so I can empathize with the situation (fortunately enough I'm only a 20 minute drive away from her so if she ever needs me I'm right around the corner essentially) Asking the wife to pick up her life too and move five states away it's a pretty big ask too. If I were the wife I think I would go ahead and move , overall I think it might be the best decision for everybody.

In my situation I love my in laws. Italian, cook up a storm, best babysitters. But I can’t do it. There are times I want to be in the kitchen and make my Spanish food….if I want to wear no underwear in my house I can and nobody says a thing. Not something I can do if I live with them and thankfully my husband knows who he married. I did agree to live 3 blocks away and my refrigerator is never empty, plus they have a copy of the key to our house 😂

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. I also love my mom very much and in 2020 during the lockdown I ended up moving in With my mother and staying at her house for over a year. My family is Polish, and in our culture it's perfectly normal for grown children to live with a parent. I find American culture to be so cold how children have to be out of the house by the time they are 20. In Polish culture children usually live at home with their parents until they get married and start their own families.

Hence why when American parents get old they get shipped off to a home because they kick their own children out at 18 regardless of circumstances. Ideally it is best to have separate homes but sometimes circumstances warrant the child or the parent moving in.
