it is crazy how 'possession of stolen property' doesn't seem to apply to places like museums/ galleries and how they get on their high horses, or if they were robbed there would be a serious investigation, I like a gallery and all but I would rather be 'culturally enriched' by legitimately obtained artefacts/ pieces of art, although there might be a significant drop in content.

I have always wondered how German actors feel about playing Nazis in film. It was a reprehensible time for Germany but also part of their rich heritage and incredible history. Anyone who knows Germany now; like me, absolutely adores Germany, it's culture and it's people. Are they conflicted? Secretly proud? Do they even judge the characters they play at all or base them on people they know? See what I mean?
@bruh-lg6ch6 жыл бұрын
NelsonClick I think they're just actors doing their job and I'm also pretty sure that they have learned from that mistake. I've even heard that Germans have a slight aversion to patriotism which is, well, understandable

@lisilein26 жыл бұрын
A friend of mine actually had a tiny role in this movie. He's not an actor but they needed naturally blond people who would sort of 'look the part' of the German Arian type I guess. He had to wear a Nazi uniform and sent us some pictures of it. As an Austrian, it was kind of a weird feeling seeing him like that. If I had to describe the feeling, I'd say it's a mixture of morbid fascination and 'thank god' that's in the past. But tbh. most of us have family photos of a grandfather or something like that lying around somewhere wearing that exact uniform so it's not exactly an unfamiliar sight.

The portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer is absolutely stunning. The story behind this portrait and its loss from this family is so fascinating, as is the tale of the beautiful necklace Adele is wearing in the portrait, also stolen by the nazis from this family and given to a high ranking nazi official's wife. It has never been seen again. After seeing Adele's portrait I was so taken with it I bought a replica...she now hangs in my home, known, immortalized in name even though the nazis tried to bury her identity because of her Jewish religion...they are the ones who named this painting, "Woman in Gold". Klimt named it, "Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer" which is what it is and always will be.

Mary.g185 M what she does with the painting is her business- it was ultimately hers to own, sell, stow away, etc in the first place. It was taken from her family by the nazis. She is well within her rights to sell it, and is very much deserving of that money, even if it is a shame!
@bedalens53444 жыл бұрын
No she sold the paintings because she didn’t have the money to keep them as they had to be insured and there was no way she had them. And then what do you do with paintings that are worth so much and so iconic. You hang them in a museum where it has a meaning.
@Lumosnight3 жыл бұрын
Alright then. This is a story about a rich woman who is greedy enough to create an excuse to hoard a painting which belongs in a museum, to the world. Yeah, not watching this propaganda.
@michellebritton20323 жыл бұрын
She sold it because she didn't have the money for the insurance or a place to safely store it. It belonged to her so she had the right to do with it as she pleased. She (the real woman) has even said in interviews that if the Austrian government had worked with her and admitted their wrong-doing she would have let it stay in Austria but instead they dug their heels in and refused to acknowledge her rights or work with her. Also it is in fact in a museum in New York now, so according to what you are saying it is in its rightful place.
@Lumosnight3 жыл бұрын
Michelle Britton if you sell it you lose it. Sorry but you can’t have your cake and eat it. If you can’t afford to buy insurance for something so valuable should you even have it?
@jacobmeldgaard40503 жыл бұрын
@@Lumosnight So if someone stole an expensive heirloom from you family, you would be okay with that ? Because, oh what the hell, you can't afford insurance anyways

@@Lumosnight Considering it was stolen from her family by the nazis as opposed to her family giving it away themselves in the first place, yes I would say she has the right to it, just like the rest of the victims of the Holocaust have a right to their stolen property.
