My mother-in-law and father-in-law were both disabled. He was mentally ill, she was legally blind. To say they were poor is an understatement. He was in the hospital for an extended stay. Bless her heart, she found a house. Four walls, roof, and cement floor. About 900 square feet. No running water. No well, but they did have an outhouse (lol). My husband (65) carried water from a gas station in 5 gallon buckets. He was a young child. They raised 7 children in that house. Of course they needed assistance when the children were growing up. But they (she) had a home for those children. On "nothing" they raised, clothed and fed those children. And this blows my mind...they made sure every child learned to drive and made sure everyone was able to get a car. They were completely amazing people that raised the most incredible family. We learned from them. And before my saintly (and best friend) mother-in-law passed away we were able to purchase my husband's "old home place". It's our most precious possession. We will be able to pass the house and property on to our grandson. Giving him a leg up. That one small house has changed the lives of generations. The only way was frugality. BUT! I wish you had been old enough to record videos when hubby and I needed you most. Enjoy your videos and I'm careful to catch every one. And, yes, I bought and read your book 📚.

At 69 yrs. old I bought an auction house for $13;500 cash after almost 4yrs sold it for $60,000 cash offer in days packed up everything furniture held for a month and packed my old car and drove to Daytona Beach. I rolled in 2 days before Thanksgiving 2019. I found a block house in a great neighborhood with sidewalks. The house was listed on Craigslist an off market wholesale deal. I do the same as you, I do anything I can myself. I closed Jan.31,2020 for $52,500 cash plus wholesalers fee. This house was a mess but I’m not afraid work. The house after 4yrs. Looks so much nicer, just had new roofing.I am now 77 a woman, my male neighbors are impressed with what I’ve done so far. Still lots to do, but I love working on the house❤

You spoke about people having multiple refrigerators and freezers. My stepdad passed away at 73. However he and my mom had 8 freezers which stayed stocked with all sorts of meat and other items. It was just the two of them. Living alone in a rural town. They kept tons of canned goods on hand too. Plus they had a massive garden. My stepdad would purchase everything in bulk. Even his riding lawnmowers. He purchased one and then an extra one. My mom said it's because he grew up in Mississippi very poor. There was never enough to eat. So when he got older he had this fear of being without. So he purchased extra everything and he always kept a surplus of food on hand.

I don’t know if I did good or not but about 15 yrs ago, I bought a 1969 mobile home for $2,000. I invested about the same amount in redoing as much as I could. It’s a pretty much a tiny home. 12x52. 1 bed 1 bath. I’m now 64 with no debt. Just living expenses and I do CB pay $100 trailer space rent to my cousin. I live on his land. I live on less than $900 monthly. So I live the life you are talking about pretty much. I drive a 22 yr old car. Everytime someone comes to visit, they are amazed at what I was able to do.

When I worked at Starbucks, they gave their pre-made food that was close to expiration to the food bank if they knew they had too much. I believe France made it illegal for businesses to throw away leftover food. I think we should adopt this across the United States.

One thing I realized about houses is that in the past they were much easier to maintain, specially the cabins that were built up until the 19th. Almost everything was made out of wood (windows, doors, roof, floor, walls and furniture) and they could be fixed mostly with just some simple tools like a hammer, a couple of nails, a mallet and a handsaw. Nowadays everything is made to break and things are over complicated, most things have complex electrical components on purpose so that you can't fix it yourself, this has all been planned to make us more dependent on money and also to make life more expensive than it should be.

I wish all people buying a home would realize that if you think your payment is going to stay the same “ even on a fixed rate” It’s not! Your property taxes will rise, you will most likely have assessments added to your payment. People living on a fixed income many times go into poverty and can’t afford the ongoing increases from their State, county and assessments added to that dreaded statement that comes in the mail every year.

@@writethroughtheheart totally understand that. My condo fees just recently went up to $400.00 a month. For me, the plus side is they take care of all outside repairs and keep the grounds beautiful and do all the snow removal. I had a fantastic realtor who owns a couple of condos and he was really helpful when it came to the condo fee question and what to look for. The lower the condo fee the better the management. That’s where I live anyways and I know that different in other places. I’m Saskatchewan.

@@writethroughtheheart My previous home was a small condo. It started with $117/month association fee and they did everything. In 5 years time it went up to $380/month fees and they were no longer pulling weeds, picking up debris, stopped certain repairs, etc. One elderly woman slipped on ice and died due to injury, so they started dumping truckloads of salt very heavily all over porches and steps. So ugly and people's carpets getting ruined. They cheaped out on lawn mowing and companies were ripping up lawns or no-shows. I finally sold it and bought a small house. I would never recommend a condo to anyone unless you don't care about anything and have money to burn.

However, there are some things that I splurge on , that they would never ever think of doing. 1. Taking a vacation 2. Going/doing something on that vacation. 3. Paying for Ntflix. I can hear their echoes in the back of my mind saying: "How are you affording this spending money like that. Do you think you're a Vanderbilt? I do make 90% home made meals,( including bakery goods), grow apprx 10% of my food(and increasing) shut those lights off, buy second hand cars every 12 years, do my own maintenance if possible, and do my own hair, manicures, pedicures for the last 25 years. Don't underestimate the fact that we live so much longer than in the past. My 97 year old parent DID save, even though she and my Dad were very low income. But living this long, and with inflation, medical bills, etc. over the years the money has been spent. She now lives on Social Security. People must save way more than they think. Sadly, most people cannot save enough because they do not make enough to do so. Our life was very frugal back then. I was raised with the same values you are giving in this video.

I turned it into a house, called a conversion with 3 person corner spa in bathroom, kitchen herb garden, 2 bedroom, lounge dining room, shed and carport. I sold it a few years later for 165 thousand dollars. I moved to the country and bought a beautiful 1920 house on a double block for 130 thousand. NO mortgage and bought with a woman's income. I never really bothered keeping up with the latest fashions, have always had long hair which I trim myself and am clean and presentable. ( never had trouble attracting a mate lol 🤣) Cheers.

I totally GET your perspective. I started saving for my first house when I was 15 years old. Later I talked my hubby into building a house with no mortgage. I was used to being frugal... him... not so much. Still, we got through it and he gained a new appreciation for having financial freedom. A friend came over to visit and said Ohhh you are SO lucky... and I quickly pointed out that LUCK had nothing to do with it... I didn't WIN it... I got it by blood, sweat, and doing without... and it was a great experience. If you do something because you HAVE to,that' can be hard, but if you CHOSE to do it... that changes everything.

I drive a ‘96 Honda Accord that was donated to my family during a really tough time for us. It’s got almost 300k miles, the windows don’t roll up or down; one keeps falling down about 1/4 of the way down, so I had to wrap the door with plastic wrap until I can get it fixed-because rain kept getting in. The wind going through the plastic wrap is so loud, but I deal with it. 3 of the door handles on the interior broke off so it’s hard to open the door from the inside. On the dash, the lights go off constantly because there’s a short. The doors can’t unlock with the button anymore, I have to unlock them by hand. The AC control knobs broke off, so I have to use a little socket wrench to turn the AC/heat on, and then move it to the other control to put it up higher or lower. The front bumper is held together by zip ties (all not visible). A year ago, a deer jumped into the road right as I was driving, and it dented the entire driver side of my car, broke off my rear view mirror, and cracked my windshield. I went without the mirror for over a year, until our new neighbor gave me a spare he had for the same make and model car. All of the issues with my car are cosmetic, except for the short with the dash lights, but I just fiddle with the knob until it goes on again. My sister makes fun on my car all the time and tells me to get a new one because I can afford it. I ask her why I’d do that if my clunker works? I’m not trying to impress anyone, and my cad does the same shit anyone else’s car does-gets me from A to B. I’m 30 and trying to save as much as I canX and she’s about to be 20 without a penny in her pocket, and no car of her own. I told her that I’d give her mg car if I got a new one, and she said she didn’t want it. I told her if that was the case, she didn’t need to be asking me for rides then, since she’s too good for my POS. Since my car is so old, I have no car payment, and my insurance is $50, because I live in a lesser populated area where there aren’t a lot of accidents. Am I particularly proud of my car, absolutely not; but I’ll drive it until it won’t go anymore.

Love your videos. Unfortunately - I do not live in the US, and my country does not offer such deals/opportunities like buying a lot for 2K USD and finding a free trailer , but - I am happy for you 🙂 One thing I might add - You are young, single, and healthy. Some people are old, or sick, or have kids , and if they work minimum wage - well, nothing much they can save.

Wish we had know about food banks when we were in college. Learned about them from my father in law. He would go to three different food banks, once a month each. Took him once, they gave him a flat of organic vine tomatoes, a flat of strawberries, cantaloupe, canned meats, staples, all the bread and bagels he could carry, candy, cookies, just amazing the amount and type of things the food banks are providing.

I’ve followed you for awhile now and I’ve changed so many things. I’m earning less because I’m staying home to care for my husband who’s I’ll, but I’m still investigating as much as I can every month especially now that I’m not earning a pension from working. I’ve reduced so much of what I buy and I often think of you before I make a purchase. Shopping only what I actually need is saving us more to invest like you do.

What you're describing (how our DNA is developed based on our experiences, threats, dangers, etc) I believe is called epigenetics. Plants also "learn" over time and become acclimated to their environment. You are spot on about people spending what they earn. My realtor was baffled why I didn't want a more expensive house since I could "afford it" and the bank approved it. I knew from living with someone for 7 years what being house poor was. That old saying, "money burns a hole in your pocket" applied to my ex. Every dollar of income went to some payment or another. I had to hide money so that at the end of the month we could buy food. It was ridiculous and I never wanted to be in that position again. Looking back, I should have gotten an even less expensive house but the trade off with buying the crappiest house in the 2nd best neighborhood was it was 1 mile to school and a gas station and it was a semi-wooded lot on a cul-de-sac so a little more yard for gardening and privacy. BTW: we are renovating a school to make it a house under 850 sqft. Soon as we are done we will live in it the minimum required time which I think is 2 years and then we will rent it out and move somewhere elsewhere or add another small house on our property.

I did the same thing. After college I continued to budget like I was still in college and paid off all my debts and bought a house. People in general tend to always spend more than what they make. “Forced Poverty”. The state of AZ denied me medical & food aid because my SSDI is too high despite my rent being MORE than my SSDI income. SNAP & Medicaid laws vary state to state. AZ does not allow for housing, utility, medical, etc deductions to reduce monthly income. To qualify for government aid (in AZ) maximum monthly income needs to be around $1000 / month. Seriously??? WTH can even rent a ROOM for that? Let alone utilities, medical, food, FUEL to get food, prescriptions, etc??? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I also don’t qualify for utility discounts for the same reason. The food pantry that I’ve been going to is income based & told me that come Dec when I need to requalify thew will discontinue my food aid because of my SSDI. So, no medical - again I am DISABLED - and no food. Fortunately I have recently found a couple other smaller pantries. That doesn’t help paying for my housing, utility, fuel to get to pantries, out of pocket medical, etc. Our system is beyond EFFED!!!!

We also get free firewood. My husband has connections with a handful of tree trimming companies. And they are always looking for places to get rid of the trees that they take down. So we have a lot of property they dump those trees on our property and then my husband cuts it up for firewood. Since we heat our house with a wood stove. And for sure there is something so comforting about walking into our home with the wood stove going. We love the smell. It's great!

I had no debt for 15 years and almost couldn't get a home loan because my credit score was non-existent. But I had a huge down payment (almost half of the cost of the home), had good references from my landlord regarding paying my rent early or on time, plus I knew the bank manager. I struggled mentally about taking out a loan for the house but asked God about it. He told me "think of it as rent". So I bought it after being approved for the loan. I pay extra on it every month. I have retired and my income decreased so I cut my spending dramatically. Prepper Princess's videos keep me motivated to keep on track with being resourceful with house repairs and everything else I might need or want. It seems like God always supplies for me and it's either cheap or free if I wait on his supply. Thank you Prepper Princess- you help me keep a clear mind about it all!!!!

Before, we were unsure about how good it would be or how easy it would be to work or install but since we bit the bullet and did it we are so glad. Plus, on the channels that actually have commercials, it's usually only one or two short commercials instead of a full 5 minutes of commercials like cable has. Thanks Prepper Princess! 🖐️

We live near a small town with one grocery store and it marks down food in every section of the store to almost nothing when it is about to expire or they have too much. It’s for everyone and we’re so appreciative!! I can get a huge bag of perfectly good mixed produce for $2 that would normally cost $8-$15 And meats for 1/2 the original price or less. You missed a couple of the biggest energy savers or help on a hot day when the electricity goes out (like in your recent video). Turn your water heater OFF during the day, or when you're gone. It only takes a short while for it to heat up when everyone wants to shower and do the dishes when it still has hot water, then turn it off when you go to bed, leave it off all day, and only turn it on in the evening. My sister cut well over $100 a month when she started doing that. Also, when it is hot and the AC isn't working, there is nothing like putting your feet in cool water. Really helps! You will be comfortable while others are so uncomfortable!

Now retired and 71 years life experiencence I rarely have the tv on. -Mainly local news. The local library keeps me up on any movies or series from Netflix showtime or hbo. I'm elderly, in perfect health according to blood tests. Loosing weight at an alarming rate. Anyway, my husband and I were going from Boston to Maine and I suddenly got really hungry and asked my husband to stop soon as we could. We hadn't been to Kenny Bunk Port in years so we took the exit so I cold grab some lunch. We found a downtown hotel with an outside ordering. I ordered a water and clam chowder, my husband a lobster roll and a drink that came in a can. Food was not that great considering what one would expect from New England. Our bill was $91.00 with tax and tip. I thought I walked into the twilight zone. That will never happen to me again! I will pack food always from this point on. I so worry about my grown children and others. I'm not screaming poverty here, but at this rate I will be. This was rare for us but will never let this happen again. I'm not understanding how folks are living these days unless paying attention to PP. P.S. My bottled water was $6.00, my husbands drink was $18.00.
