Niani Finlayson was fatally shot Dec. 4 after deputies responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment in Lancaster, California, according to authorities. The sheriff's department said she was threatening her ex-boyfriend with a knife when deputies arrived. Finlayson's family has begun the process of suing the department and county for $30 million. In a 911 audio clip released by the sheriff's department, Finlayson is heard telling the dispatcher that the man "won't get of my house" and "he will not leave me alone." The L.A. County District Attorney's office is conducting its own independent review. Finlayson's former boyfriend was arrested after the shooting on suspicion of child abuse and assault on a peace officer, authorities said. He was later released pending further investigation. a 911 call can take seconds. Pertinent information Who ( her ex. ) what ( he wont leave ) where ( address. ) of course any weapons involved or injuries talking to a 911 operator doesn't delay police . The cops are coming not the dispatchers/operators . The information is being given out to the officers while your still on the line. They already responding.

So if he has a weapon and police come in you do know they won't be prepared and can be shot too right? So how does anyone get saved? Just a few months ago a woman called police to her home because her son was having mental issues. No one mentioned he had weapons and guess what? Those two cops came in thinking it was simply someone having a breakdown and were SHOT dead. They are dead. Only on the force for less than a year. How is that okay? Don't be stupid.

@Sunshine-un2tq You are victim blaming. For her dating him in the first place. If she knew he was going to be abusive to the point her life could be taken I'm sure she wouldn't have. The way your comment comes off it's as you are saying that she deliberately dated this man so that he would eventually kill her. You act as if she was blessed with 20/20 hindsight and just neglected to heed it ! Also, you contradict yourself and are oblivious that you even did it. First you acknowledge emotions are running high. Then turn around and blame her for being emotional. At the time the woman was dealing with fear, anger, rage, and adrelaline all at the same time yet you blame her for not switching it off instantly. Lastly in all of your prattling, offensive, crass, insenstitve drivel not once have you BLAMED HIM! You are castigating her for being a victim. You are puttting everything on her trying to make it solely her fault as if he had nothing to do with it. Your comments are a prime example of victim blaming.

@Sunshine-un2tq Your opinion is your opinion and I absolutely respect that, but you also contradicted yourself so many times in your comment. I’m going to make my opinion plain and simple. She should have dropped the knife once the cops were there but as you even stated, emotions were high. Police are not trained to kill and he absolutely could have tased her, mased her , anything but shoot her 4 times. Even if he did feel as though he had to shoot, why 4 times?!?! I’m sure once would have been enough. I also wonder why not aim for her leg?!? Shooting 4 times was overkill and he needs to be held accountable,

For those who 'claim' women a 'male' in the home for protection - what happens when that same 'male' that's supposed to 'protect you' is the one harming you? IN THAT CASE, AND AT THE END OF THE DAY - women only have THEMSELVES as a means of 'protection'. IN THIS CASE, cops WHO ARE ALSO MALES, who are supposed to 'protect', IS ALSO THE CAUSE OF HARM/UN-ALIVING the victim. WHO CAN WOMEN RELY ON FOR PROTECTION??? HERSELF - that's the only accurate/factual answer. WOMEN - protect yourselves out there because clearly WOMEN CAN NOT DEMAND ON MEN FOR "PROTECTION".

First off, I enjoy your content because you shed light on so many stories that go uncovered, subbed with the bell turned on and all. This one is a little different though, in my opinion. The dude was def in the wrong for doing what he did before the cops showed up. But the bodycam footage is out there. She opened the door, made a threat to harm her abuser with a knife in hand, in front of the cops, then approached the abuser with a knife when the cops came in. Should she have been shot? No, and the officer literally dropped his taser to pull out his firearm to use lethal force. But could this have been prevented if she stayed outside with the protection she called for instead of going back in and threatening with the knife, is the real question. I think it’s a teachable moment for all of us. If you’re being abused, and the cops show up in time (which, as we see on channels like this, doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should) then you have to let them do their job and remove the threat. In this situation she became the threat, and if we leave it in the wrong officers hands, we know how that can play out, like this. Love.

You made a good point because it's no secret cops tend to be trigger happy. I do believe they need more Training for certain situations & it's the dispatchers job to get that crucial information so the cops can be more prepared going into that situation. It really is a domino effect. The parents need just for their daughter something needs to change so situations like this can be prevented. 😢

They sadly got the WRONG officer on that day, I saw plenty of ways it could have been de-escalated in a different way, where everyone would have been able to walk away. Sad tragedy 😢💔❤️🕊🕊🕊🕊

So this case has me conflicted. I'm sure this wasn't the first time he's hit her or they fought. I'm also sure family, friends, and her kids knew that. So let's speak out on that. Also, fear will make u leave the house with your kid and call the police not stay and argue. Then answer with a knife and tell them you are going to stab him. You walk over to the man u fear with the knife to stab him. What exactly did everyone expect to happen? She went from victim to aggressor.
@niyanyc3242

I'm trying to figure out how he got in . I worked 911 for years. Women will call with an order of protection and want the man out, but they let him in . Then mad when u ask questions with an attitude . Women play around when it comes to DV situations, and it makes all women look bad .
@mrsbrown7564
@mrsbrown7564 6 ай бұрын
@niyanyc3242 you are right. DV is a joke to some. When you're in fear, you run especially when there's kids there. Personally, the fact that he stuck around knowing she called the police has me thinking there's more to it. Usually guys will leave, they don't want to risk going to jail. This was probably a norm for them. She's otp arguing with him, the person she fears, and at the same time saying that she's about to stab him. She goes to the door with a large knife instead of walking outside to talk to police, or stepping back inside the house, she goes to him(who is now the victim) with the knife. He's no longer the aggressor, she is. So the police had to react in a split second and teasers don't always stop a person. So imagine had they not did anything and she stabbed him. Then his family would've been asking questions while suing.
@niyanyc3242
@niyanyc3242 6 ай бұрын
@mrsbrown7564 exactly what I said, now if police were present, and she stabbed him . Then it's how they let that happen . They should be fired . They didn't have time to decipher if she's bluffing or not , is she going to stab him or not .
@niyanyc3242

@@mrsbrown7564also cops don't take those order protection calls as serious as they should because of women . Order of Protection means he should not be in your home or around you , some of these women still sleeping with the men smfh . If he's an Ex why is he in the home with you and your child or kids.

I know the parents are grieving and I’m so sorry for their loss, but we really have to consider. Why did she still have the knife in her hands once three police officers were in her apartment clearly, the man was no longer a threat he was like sitting down, why did she still feel the need to try to attack him while Officer is there right there to me? That is just completely Irrational and it definitely placed her at a disadvantage because the officers are going to assume she’s trying to fatally won’t him and they’re gonna do whatever they can’t really quickly and we all know really quickly means shoot you. And then the father talking about the man had a record of doing this before if he already was a violent domestic violent guy why was you allowing him to still be around your daughter and your granddaughter? Where were you then?

There is more to this incident than what is being told. I feel sorry for the family but based on the optics of the released footage and the limited information police have when approaching a hostile domestic situation, she did present herself as the aggressor. When they arrived to the door she moved from where was standing before entering the apartment to running towards him in the corner with the knife still in her hand and there was a lot of yelling and screaming, officers didn’t even noticed the knife in her hand until she ran towards her ex-boyfriend and they were instructing her to stop and to drop the weapon. Her daughter was afraid herself be up she ran to the back of the apartment when the victim lunged at her ex. When I watched it on worldstar the full body cam footage, I thought she was the aggressor before the story was released that she called 911. I can see how the officers would perceive her as the assailant during the time leading up to the shooting. It was a terrible mistake but not on the police behalf this time, she should have just stayed put and allow them to handle the situation. In their defense they believed that they had to solve the situation and minimize the danger.
