In this video, we're going to take a look at the story of Deanna Cook. Deanna was married to a man who was constantly abus*ng her. One day, he got physical with her, and she called 911 to get help. However, the police didn't take her seriously, and she couldn't escape. Two days later, she was found dead in the tub by her family.
This story is a great example of how important it is to have a safety plan in place if you're ever in a situation where you need to call 911. Even if you don't think you'll need to use the police, having a plan in place can help you protect yourself from an abus*ve situation. Thanks for watching!
About Deanna Cook:
Born on June 19, 1980, to Vickie Cook, Deanna Antoinette Cook Patrick grew up in Dallas, Texas, along with her loving sister. She was very atheistic. She enjoyed running. Deanna was also a devoted and faithful member of her church and was passionate about her faith. She deeply valued the time she spent with her family and cherished every moment spent with her children and dogs. Deanna was described as a loving and caring mother and an active member of her community. She was always willing to help others in need, and her kindness and compassion were truly remarkable. Deanna was a bright light in her family's life. Delvecchio Patrick, her ex-husband, unfortunately tried to dim the light. ©Leah Gordone

I've been a police dispatcher for 15 years now and I was outrage with the call taker. She was so nonchalant, heartless, and cold. How can you not relay the screaming and the frantic plea for help to the units. If she's a frequent caller research her number to get her numerical. The police response time was unbelievable and shocking. How do you stop for a drink on a hot call? I dont know how dallas system works but where i work the cell phone will hit the nearest tower to get the approximate location. Dallas police department is sorry and they dropped the ball big time. They also let the dispatcher take the fall by herself when the officers should've been reprimanded as well. My agency respond code to all hot calls. I dont care how many times you respond to the same numerical still treat the citizen as if it was you or your love one. Sorry for being honest but Deanna also failed herself. She should've move or invested into a pi*tol. When people show you who they are believe them. Its so many woman who take the men back countless of times and drop the charges. It's so much the justice system can do if they don't fight for themselves. It still doesn't excuse the police agency from protecting and serving. Thats the reason why we have a job is to serve and protect our community. I hope the family get compensated because dallas police dropped the ball big time. Rip Deanna. If you're in an abusive relationship please get out while you can.

@@sayeedharem4673What does baking cookies for responders have to do with them doing their jobs. It is their duty to do so in an emergency. You could clearly hear something horrific happening on the other end of that line and nothing was done. But your ignorant generalization about a whole race of women is wrong and I don’t believe you’re one of them by your comment. Sounds like you’re disguising and using the opportunity to speak on your true feelings. Don’t let the media fool you. This platform and others bring the attention to what’s happening to BW at alarming rates because it’s not reported and others simply don’t care. People like you leave comments to justify the deaths of BW. Stemming from false narratives that are put out there about a whole race. So many “women” of different backgrounds have shown the so called stereotypes you’ve written about but are still treated differently when it comes to these tragedies.

The phone call is really agonizing to listen to. I almost had to stop for a mental break, so hard to take. I don’t understand how the dispatcher could sit through that and listen without a stronger sense of urgency, it is incomprehensible. The city of Dallas owes that family for what they have endured. I grew up in a home with domestic violence. I was 16, coming home from school I heard screaming, and my mom was being beaten in the head with a bat it was so much blood. He then pulled her in and set the house on fire. I am 46 now, and it still pops up in my mind out of nowhere. Unexpected loud sounds still startle me. I pray for the victims family. I will never understand how people can be so cruel and evil.

The law enforcement department failed her. The fact that they said they have been there several times, is telling, especially mentioning her behavior when they showed up in the past. They told on themselves really. They didn't take her serious due to their own biases. They could have intervened and saved a life. Charges should be filed against that police department. If the responding lady couldn't hear the call, she shouldnt be on the job. Because anyone can clearly hear the screaming. The fact they dismissed her family again when they called while at her door...That was disturbing and made me angry. What kind of sick mess is really going on? Prayers to her family and my condolences.

911 operators are not dispatchers.... They pass along the information. She marked it as DV and urgent. The dispatcher communicates with officers and is supposed to convey the urgency and that they leave in that 3 minute window. The officers who responded should have had the information that she had had a history. That should have been attached to that address where she had called from so may times before. Unfortunately I that may be why they were dismissive. When they went to the house they should have gone in. We saw the 911 operator but they made sure the officers nor the dispatchers weren't trotted out. This was 2012 and they didn't have an address pop up from cell phones at that time. The officers were inept and I think they didn't care about DV calls. Did the officers get fired? Any penalty at all for them?

This is heartbreaking to look at. The dispatchers were ignorant. Smh. Idu how his family could be so disturbed when he was found guilty. He murdered her. The judge released him over & over. Blood is on all of their hands. Prayers for the family to one day find peace 🌷
