@@robertsmith3672 Then they're going to be desperate, broke, AND heartbroken. People need to get hobbies. Join a community center, book club, bowling league, etc. ... not futz around online with needy strangers who speak bad English in a pronounced Nigerian accent. There's no excuse for it. If you're savvy enough to join a dating site, you should be savvy enough to know not to give anyone money. My sister got scammed out of 15,000 and everyone told her it was a scammer and yet she continued. To this day she still spends all her time texting and talking to scammers for 3 years and still going strong. This is a mental disorder for women that are desperate for attention. There MUST come a point when the victim is no longer a victim but is, in fact, a Volunteer to the deception. Realistically speaking, why the heck would a much younger attractive male be interested in an older woman ? We are talking about men with either a 6-pack and/or exciting professions worldwide. WHY would any woman not ask herself why her on line beau has so much TIME on his hands, are in love with you when you've never even met, lead drama filled lives what with locked out bank accounts, teenage children requiring an i-phone replacement, accidents at work yadda yadda yadda.

True. I dated a man for 5 months, real life, in person. After 5 months, he tried to squeeze money out of me. I told him that I wasn't going to give him any money. I would treat for dinners & lunches, put gas in his car, just, no cash. A month later, he tried again to get money from me for a reason he gave that I found to be a big lie. Although it hurt to let go of him, I knew that it was time. I took him out for dinner, brought with me any gift he had given to me. I gave the gifts back to him, wished him well I was crying & hurting for a long time after that. I got through it.

Well, they do tell the client (“victim”) that they’re filthy rich, but their money is “tied up.” There always a promise of much-more money later, if they give them money now. She did not say, but I have heard and read enough of these to know that there is ALWAYS greed of the client (“victim”) involved. Always. She also did not say, but I would suspect this man told her he is quite younger than she, and that “age is just a number,” and stole photos that show him as beautifully handsome. He then told her that “looks don’t matter. It’s what’s on the inside that counts,” lol.

They like the idea and fantasy that some super hot suave guy wants them damn well knowing that in their everyday life it’s not as realistic. Harsh truth. Dudes that ask women for money at the beginning of relationships are losers. I'm a dude. That being said, this is 100% the women's fault - unless he (or his friends) used a gun and robbed you, or held you against your will. I'll say, women scamming men out of money the usual line of business. Via onlyfans, strip club, gold digging, russian bridal websites, alimony, and many more... When dudes get scammed it is 100% the man's fault unless the women (or her friend) hold's him unwillingfully - (drugged and robbed, invited to hotel room and her boyfriend comes out and robs him, ect)...

First sign was the accent, 2nd was international person, 3rd is never seeing the actual person in person, 4th is asking for a dime for the scammer or for the scammee to invest/purchase something. Ladies also don't say specifically what your looking on a dating site or on the first date. This is how someone can conform to what you want and not show you who they really are, thus deceiving you.

And she talks about his “business” and his “son”. She has been scammed but still believes some of his story. Nothing this person said to her was true. There was no romantic relationship, no son, no business trips. It was all a means to an end. I watch the Catfished stories and they all talk like this. When it’s over and they have lost tens of thousands of dollars they still seem to believe there was at a time a mutual love and they were some big wig engineer with a lot of bad luck. Mostly the scammed person is in very deep and it likely takes years for them to return to their full senses.

I'm sorry this happened to your family. I hope good things come your way so you can be free from that hole as soon as possible. My mom fell for it too. $700 in gift cards for a 'package at the airport'. From the 'widow with a child' to the 'military man needs money' she fell for it all. No matter how many times my husband and I warned her it was a scam, it didn't matter. She had super low self esteem at the time due to being divorced from my father recently and nobody could convince her it was a scam. She called us crying one day saying she couldn't pay rent and was going to be kicked out of her place. We paid her rent with the condition that she would never again send money to someone she had never met before. She's been very careful since but it put a strain on our personal relationship for a while. It's hard to watch it happen to someone you love dearly, especially when they won't listen to reason.

I worked these cases as a former fraud investigator. In pandemic times when people are at their loneliest due to isolation. These “Romeo’s” are the smoothest operators you will ever encounter. They are magnanimous, gregarious, and will make you think they are sensitive to your needs. In my opinion, “STAY AWAY FROM ONLINE DATING!” It’s better to be lonely than to lose your life savings, your dignity, and maybe your life because some of the victims will die by suicide. In most cases you cannot get your money back because YOU ENGAGED with the bad actor.

Yep, Michele but what tempted her originally - is that she knew people happily married through this method. I also know at least one person who has been married for years. So, would you say stay away or can they get involved - but no money - and do a background check?? This woman seemed to be an intelligent woman who had every reason to hope for a relationship.

I agree that online dating is risky. I tried it and met a huge proportion of psychopaths in the process. However, I also ultimately met my partner through an app and we’d never have met otherwise. Be smart. Drive yourself and meet in public places until you know each other well. Get to know the other person’s social circle. Don’t give away your red flags but heed them when you see them. Don’t send or spend money, ladies. There is a greater proportion of wicked people on these apps than in the real world, but once in a while you’ll uncover a gem.

I feel the key here is, while we don't wish to scare off our possible forever love by being skeptical about everything, there has to be a level of asking questions. If you ask a question and they get defensive or evasive, that could be a red flag. If the conversation of money comes in to play early in the game especially when you've never met face to face, another red flag.

Although she appears extremely intelligent and well-spoken, she is extremely gullable. I could smell that scam as she relayed the story. Her emotional vulnerability left her exposed. Who TF wires $10K to an invisible would be lover. Let's be honest....you haven't found love yet somehow, a handsome Australian off shore oiler chooses you but can't afford to support his son...and that doesn't raise your red flag? They target individuals who appear apologetic, desperate, and insecure in the profiles.

If you are a good person, who had suffered much, you hope one day you meet someone special, and by now, you know the perfect package isnt going to present itself. Dont shame this woman. Shame on you. Its a shame we have people preying on people. Its a shame we hear “law of attraction” and things like love yourself and so when you finally DO love yourself and feel worthy, expecting good things to come because you put in work and went through a lot. If it worked out, it would be a non issue. But some of us are used/abused, just watching others have love and lives that we hope to one day have, knowing we will have to sacrifice this or that, knowing life wont hand you someone perfectly. We do the work we are asked or told to do. Then bullshit shows up to court us. Its really not fair. Brainwashed with movies and tv shows, brainwashed with “love yourself first” and any other bad advice. That maybe after years of hell and being alone, that you could have something, someone… venture into feeling worthy. And bam. Its truly horrible because it stems from being treated poorly as a child and a pattern that is truly hard to break. This woman is lucky she had friends and found real support. Dont shame her. Some people are out here doing their best, and dont see it coming, because their minds and hearts could never think that way. And when you DO think that way… its a horrible reality anyway. “Yeah what do you expect” type attitude really pisses me off because it shows how accepted scandal is in society. How prevalent.

I had someone who attempted to do the exact same things with the almost exact same story. He was from Italy living in L.A. His wife died 2 years previously he had a daughter who was living with his father when he had to go on jobs. He was some kind of advisor for the oil industry. His latest job would bring in $3 million. I was always on the skeptical side because I had heard of scammers. He had contacted me through Twitter. He wanted to start talking through some other option to which I declined. Finally came the day where he asked me to help his daughter buy school books because his credit card was cancelled and he was waiting for the new one. I told him off and blocked him. I've learned the signs to look for because these guys are out there and always trying.

Why did she believe he even had a child? That he was who he was. She didn't vet him. It's shocking (and sad) how many have the same story. I think they jump in because they're lonely, vulnerable and intensely desire to have a relationship. Bingo. They are a lightning rod for scammers.
