Woman says she was sexually abused as child by evangelical pastor

Күн бұрынCindy Clemishire says that Pastor Robert Morris began to sexually abuse her in 1982 when she was 12 and he was 21. Morris went on to found Gateway Church, building it into a megachurch with nine campuses in North Texas. He resigned last month, saying without being specific that he had "inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady." Morris did not respond to multiple interview requests. NBC News' Antonia Hylton reports.

They are ALL PREDATORS! Let me tell you something. Every pretty child ( i just say pretty because the guest is pretty) or just "available" child in a church environment was probably victimized. Everyone i knew was. I wasn't because ny mom was in charge of the Christmas & Easter perfornances and they needed her. Churches, pastors are motivated by a need for attention & ...think about it...why would you go that route. God would want you to be attorney or physicians who would selflessly care for the poor. @@Fuxerz Gateway church is no longer offering any moral defence of Robert Morris, after accepting his resignation. (he was planning to retire in 2025 anyway) They have acknowledged Clemishire's abuse, and apologized to her for what happened. There is no longer any doubt about the substantive matters in her claim. They ( Gateway) claimed in a second statement issued in late June or early July of this year, that they did not initially know she (Clemishire) was underage when the abuse took place. They said they didn't have all the factual information at the time of their initial statement. Morris has not been charged with a crime as I write this response. That said, Gateway is not defending Robert Morris from a moral standpoint, or denying the substantive facts of Clemishire's claim now.

I think you will find, Robert pulled a fake story to his wife all their married life - i bet she didnt know it was a 12yr old girl, i bet she didnt go to the parents home when they were supposed to have forgiven him. People like Robert Morris know how to manipulate and play with words. Im in Australia, and in the early 2000’s we connected to satellite Christian. Tv and i remeber hearing Robert Morris give a testimony of redemption them. He had to keep that story about the young lady going forever as he lied to his wife and most people in the churches. I also heard one message of recent years where his wife had said to him “are you sure you are telling me everything”? He told her he was. But he wasnt. I wonder if we were a fly on the wall in that household. It is very sad. You tell a lie once and it is easy to confess and repent, but tell a lie over and over and over for years and years and years and the lie becomes a stronghold too big to break the chains. A persons conscience becomes seared and they believe what they have been saying is the truth when it clearly is not.

Reading all the reports and listening to Cindy herself, I think the young lady was over stimulated. Now, when she wants money and attention, all 3 men were abusers .😢 The question is WHY HER, her sister is one room down from her, WHY did Cindy snug into the mens rooms. WHY did she only come out when her friend, who she bragged to, forced her to come forward. WHY did her dad want to keep it out of the public. As for Debbie a sweeter kinder woman you have never met, if she said Cindy was very flirtatious, I believe her.

We are all flawed and fallen short. I can't blame women too much for being overprotective because of all the cheating going on with Ashley Madison stuff and almost all being men that signed up. "Praying for you"...See, this confuses me. Why would you pray to the same God who could have prevented this from happening to begin with, but did nothing? Any god that has the power to protect, heal, or save a victim, but doesn't isn't worth being worshipped. If you saw someone being molested and could stop it, you'd do everything in your power to stop it. That makes you more moral than your God. It doesn't make a lick of sense. I take that back. It does make sense when you realize Gods are not real.

It's absolutely tragic for ALL. I am saddened by the fact that not one person has ever asked what happened to this 19 year old young man that led him into this deviant behavior? He must also have been experiencing some deep emotional pain.. 19 is a baby himself as any mother would most likely agree.. This was a moral failure, the man admitted that openly. God is a great healer and restorer.. I question the timing of this..35 years later..

Cindy has been seeking justice for years. The leadership has been gaslighting her. I’m not sure who you’re referring to that’s 19. RM was in his twenties, married and had a child. He’s a paraphilia. You can read the original story from Cindy on TheWartburgwatch and CBC. There’re photos of original emails between RM, staff at Gateway. RM has always told his version of the story but he referred to Cindy as a young lady when in fact she was 12 years old. She was seduced by a criminal. He’s a multi millionaire and can afford therapy for his trauma. If he truly cared for humans he would have tried to help Cindy with her therapy costs.

As a survivor of molestation at the age of four, that was repeated for years, I can tell you that healing is possible and forgiveness is key to it. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you say it’s okay. It means you let go of the anger and resentment trusting God to heal you and deal with him.
