Surekha Dehury is a resident of Gulunda village under Maneswar block of Sambalpur in Odisha. The village also comes under the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation. An widow, Surekha is entitled to get a monthly widow pension Rs.500. For smooth transfer of her pension amount, a bank account was opened in her name in 2020. But since October 2022, her pension amount is not being credited to her bank account. She is running from pillar to post to get her pension. After repeated visits to the bank, the block office and the office of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, she has received pension for just two months (February 2023 and June 2023). But she has yet to receive the pension for the seven months of October, November, December 2022, and January, March, April and May 2023. The poor disabled woman says she has already spent Rs.600 for frequenting to the bank, block office and municipal office.
