mnin dk it really depends on the brand and what kind. Like the tampons with the card board applicators that hurt like a mo fo to put in are cheaper than the plastic ones. The brand I use is about 10$ per box. Which isn't too bad if your period is light but if it's super heavy you can go through a box pretty fast. Plus you have to worry about bleeding through your tampon so you need panty liners which are about 5-10$ per month as well. For my situation that's not super expensive but for some women it is and it's sad they have to free bleed or use toilet paper or something because they can't afford it, ya kno

Oh wow that's really expensive, the one I use is €1.18 for a box with 32 tampons and the most expensive one is almost €4 for 32 tampons

Paige Derryberry it's ridiculous. I'm pregnant so not having a period is lovely but you should try the diva cup if you don't mind shoving a little silicone cup up there. I used one for a year and it was amazing.

Why tf aren’t sanitary products free or at least cheaper/more affordable for everyone? Women don’t choose to get their periods so why should we have to pay as much for something natural? Some women really can’t afford it and it’s not something we can prevent. I just think k it’s mad.

xloudstar aheh no thanks. I've asked some of my friends before about how much blood actually comes out and they said a teaspoonfull... THAT'S NO A TEASPOONFULL! And I'd know, I'm British; I use teaspoons at least three times a day.

I don't think they should be free, because I don't really trust people to not take advantage and just take all of the products available... because then if the box is empty they can't just keep refilling it because i know it's expensive to provide free ones anyways (unless making the products could be free then yeah but then waste would be a problem if they make too many) and then there would be none available at all for us... but at the same time what if we don't have coins available to buy anything... idk I'm just very confused

They're more expensive to produce and unlike toilet paper or tampon dispensers in public bathrooms which are usually locked there's no real way to prevent someone from stealing all of them. It'd be great if they could be free but people are jerks and that's why we can't have nice things.

Calls up the elevator scene from the Shining, like legit I bleed so much that I have a 56 count box that comes every other month and a 32 count bag of overnight pads that I use at panty liners. Like I just stopped my period two days ago... but day three I bled through 8 eight hour pads in the span of a day.

I really appreciated this video because I have been in the situation of not being able to afford normal period protection. I had to stuff a towel in my pants and just go about my days like that. Fortunately it was shortly before my birthday, and so as a birthday present my doctor's office I attended put together some hygiene staples for me, which included a box of sanitary napkins. Best birthday present I could have possibly asked for.

Menstrual cups or any reusable period product needs CONSTANT sanatation (sry, don't know how this word is spelled). Homeless women* don't have enough access to private, clean bathrooms where they can wash, dry their period products. And I am not even talking about boiling menstrual cups at the end of the period.

As a trans man several months on testosterone, my period has all but stopped. As a result, I have several boxes of tampons (since I would stock up for several months, because they're so expensive) sitting around that I'm not going to use. I was worried about the money I would be wasting by throwing them out, but after watching this video, I've decided to donate them to my local women's shelter. It's definitely an option I hadn't considered, probably because periods are something that aren't talked about freely, but it should be. Thanks, Buzzfeed.

Awesome, man! I have stopped my period as well, but mine is because of my birth control. I have a few boxes of tampons and pads too and I'm going to donate today to a women's shelter. I remember being at a job interview and I got up to leave and I'd bled everywhere and I honestly was so embarrassed I wanted to die, the interviewer was a man and he told me to wait there and he ran to the store and bought me some pads and told me not to worry about it. Some schools, even some all-girls schools, will announce that they will not provide pads. It is an expense to the school, but some girls have health issues. Girls with PCOS could miss their periods for months and all of a sudden get it. Some girls get them 2x a month occasionally. You could ask a teacher, but not every woman carries pads with them 24/7.

I leaked at school in the morning and had to cope with the rest of the day (luckily i was wearing black and had a hoodie to wrap round myself). I had no pad or anything so i was using tissue (i was too embarrassed to ask anyone for anything). It honestly made me appreciate sanitary products even more as it some how boosts my confidence.

To think what women who can't afford pads go through this makes me cringe. Pads should be on the NHS. Pads aren't luxury, there are necessity.

This is gonna be TMI, but for me, tampons are my lifesaver. For several hours at a time, I practically am allowed to forget about my period. But I hate how they’re taxed as “luxury” items. They aren’t. Feminine hygiene items are a necessity.

Pinecone I was, but then I realized so many girls use them it can't be that bad, and I was right! I missed out on so much! They have saved me! And I don't feel like I'm wearing a diaper. I can't feel it in at all.
