Different men could do the same behavior for holding, frame, but have different perceptions from the woman. If the man is a top shelf guy, has his finances, fitness and health together and is fun and funny, she will likely perceive it as being guided in a positive direction because he, the man, has lead himself into a positive direction. If he's an average guy doing the same behavior, she will likely perceive it as controlling because she doesn't trust the judgment of someone who has gotten average results.

They say they want a man to make the decisions, but then they argue and/or complain about the decisions. So the man eventually just says "what do you want to do" (because he doesn't feel like arguing), and now she's upset that he's being "indecisive"...
