After failing first attempt at 4.70 Murto made the tactical decision of leaving two attempts for 4.75, clearing that on first. That was a bold decision as the national record of Finland was 4.72. It was clear from that point on that she was determined to win a bright medal and was confident she could do it. To win gold she had to break the national record a second time at 4.80, and as the going was good she completed with a third national record (4.85 ) in a single competition. Speaking about overachieving in a tough situation. Bonnin of France looked promising with a good technique. Not quite ready for medals yet, but personal best at 4.55 and good attempts at 4.65.

The fact that Murto takes note of her progress is brilliant. She deserved the victory and the record.

The girl at 18:41 is probably my favorite, she has a lot of talent and a steady hand. Even though she didn't win, she's clearly a foot or should I say a toe ahead of the competition. Cheeky performance indeed, she could snatch a first place anytime soon. In contrast what my father used to say "everything before the 'but' is of lesser importance", I think it's important to really look inside the but here but also realize that what's before the but is also very prominent. Of course, there are different types of buts, and can a big but become more distinct than what comes before and behind it? I'm believe the but firmly can be as exciting when you strip down the whole situation. 🧐
