The Wonderful World of Dance

5 жыл бұрын

Natalia Osipova has often been described as an enigma, as a dancer who keeps her audiences on the edge of their seats with pure but unpredictable performances, that makes you hold your breath, as you never know what you’re about to experience until this star steps on stage.
The Wonderful World of Dance had the privilege of being invited into Natasha’s (yes she prefers to be called Natasha, although Natalia is the name on her passport!) home to meet her two gorgeous dogs and her new fiancé, fellow Royal Ballet dancer Jason Kittelberger.
We discussed her journey from Russia and the Bolshoi to The Royal Ballet, the challenges and disappointments she’s faced throughout her career, how she prepares to perform and manages the anxiety and emotions that are the driving force of her powerful performances.
We talk about her experience of being filmed for Force of Nature Natalia, how she prepared for the dark role in Arthur Pita’s The Mother and much more…
Natalia Osipova is premiering Arthur Pita’s The Mother with Jonathan Goddard at Southbank 20-22 June.
Natalia then heads off to Japan with the Royal Ballet and then returns for the next season in London and also presents her own programme Pure Dance at Sadler’s Wells 22-26 October.
Natalia's documentary Force of Nature Natalia is out at Curzon cinemas across the UK.

14:55 "I would not say that I'm an expert in classical dance".... If not you then who? I appreciate what she's trying to say about giving her dancing some special quality that is not completely classical but she is such a beautiful dancer... She is an expert and an artist... I love your dancing Natasha!

a racing driver can drive brilliantly but can not build a car, it's very different from driving. You can dance and be very good at it but to be an expert in classical dance is very different thing.

Thank you, this is fantastic! I've seen Osipova in N.Y. 4 times and she is phenomenal. I can't wait to see the documentary, which will probably take a year to arrive in the U.S.

The documentary is definitely worth the wait as it's so great to hear her own words in English, and also to go behind the scenes of her rehearsals at The Royal Ballet and The Mother. I love her unpredictable and completely full-out performances. I hope you get to see her again soon in NY

Thank you for allowing us this inspiring and honest look into your life and art. You are, by far, my favourite dancer. You have a wonderful way of opening up the emotional life of the characters you dance, which brings them alive to us who are watching. You have brought renewed appreciation and love of dance into my life, for which I thank you very much.

Natalia is wonderful! A few months ago I discovered the streaming platform „Marquee“, there is another film about her called „Natalia-force of nature“. I watched it three times in a row, she is just fascinating ❤. No, I‘m not getter paid by Marquee 😅But I can highly recommend it, there are many full length ballets from different companies. For me it’s worth every penny

More than a ballerina. A marvelous storyteller. It is funny but through her, I see what is special in her partners. But when you compare acts 1 and 3 of Anastasia you see a transition between a giddy beautiful young girl and desolation. I love her Saddlers Wells work.

I find contemporary dance second rate. Dancers inevitably end up rolling and gyrating on the floor, so limited are the movements. The body lines are ugly. It seems that many choreographers get caught in spiders' webs of their own emotions and sanctimonious messages that fail physically and fail to move the audience. Or they choreograph something to fit a beat, with no connection to the lyrics whatsoever. Takes great talent to be a good contemporary choreographer. The best are ballet trained, incorporate a foundation of turnout and ballet moves into their pieces and master beauty in the patterns of bodies and movements.

"Чудный" интерьер. Она выглядит почти, как только что помытая бомжиха в каком-то приюте на грязном диване, среди грязных подушек, на серой, видавшей виды подстилке. Ужас.
