Here in North Texas the woodchips I put down with skidsteer a year ago are holding up perfectly well. Heavy trailer traffic with a large dump trailer and utility trailer going over the area constantly with a slight slope and no issue with traction. My only issue is growth of weeds through the areas I didn’t lay down the chips thick enough or pre-dig the site with the skidsteer bucket! Those will die off in the winter and more chips can be put down! I find the chips from tree services that sharpen their mulcher well do the best. Spreads more like gravel than like a mat of sticks and large chunks.

I’ve done this also works great and I’m planning to harvest it at some point as well!

Is any part of the driveway on a decent slope? If so, does it hold up just as well in that area?

I love that you shared this particular experiment. It makes sense for me. I am wondering what you think about what to do with an existing driveway that currently has gravel if I were to convert it over to wood chips? Would you go thru the effort to remove the gravel or just top up as needed and make the slow change over to wood chips? thank you

We have a mix of slope and flat where we have part that is 6 degree and part that is 12 degree. Would either of these slopes work converting from gravel to wood chips?

Have you done anything to stop the grass and vegetation growing through?
