My father would say "if you don't quit screwing around trying to get a 36" hole in that rock and worring about that 3/4" out of line, the 1st post you put in will be rotten before you get the rest of the fence built"

You can rent a breaker attachment for that bobcat and you'll get thru that rock in 2-3 minutes.

That probably would go faster. Seems like the skid steer attachments pile up quickly. I was just thinking the other day that I’m gonna have to build another building just for skid steer attachments. Either that or let them rot in the weather lol. Thanks for watching. Hope all is well!

a little water helps tamp gravel around posts, i've only dug posts into heavy clay and filled with crushed limestone but the water really solidified them when i did.

I like to believe there must be options to post holes to stop incursion from deer and such into a vegetable garden and to fruit trees we are in the process of establishing. Your video and several others I've seen say not so. The vacuum is one tool we have yet to employ, I'm sure it is soon to be added to the task at hand. Aged musculoskeletal tool is to put it bluntly a disadvantage to any such labor this intense. But the hands of time are not slowing for mortal man nor woman. One that takes on such a project upon entering their 7th decade from birth receives the best help from faith and family. Good to see you safe and sound. Very glad nothing happened to you. Your ground is very difficult to work with. As far as the tamping goes you may see if there is a tamping bit made to fit your Jack hammer. It might help speed things up a little bit.

I assumed this was the issue. I thought about starting a channel, 2 of my close buddies have a channel, but I have alot to do around this ranch, filming and editing and all that plus my regular full time lawn business and family, church, not much time for KZfaq.🤣👍😊😎

I would definitely encourage anyone to give it a try. Although it is time consuming it can be a source of income for your farm, and marketing after you get it established.

Yeah probably should find some cheaper ones for the fencing. Those tend to get left out there so I can pick up where I left off the next day. Good eye!

Chewing on cords is NOT OSHA compliant, cows! 😂😊 Hope you're doing well out there. I get it, with a 20 yo college kid myself. Fyi- I finally found my property! 16 acres, 4br farmhouse just across the lake in NY. Reno needed, so we won't be able to move in until Aug/Sept. Fencing is #1 for me, probably the front 5 acres to start. Best wishes to you and your family. ~Stacey

The good thing aboust those rocks, is the hole doesn't have to be too deep, but as others have recommended, put some steel pipe in the hole, 1/4 inch wall thickness, and at least 2 inches in diameter. And pour some concrete into the hole, just fill the hole up. I know it's expensive and a lot of work, but the land without fence is not much good, and the land and the cattle are not cheap

Couple of suggestions, set your posts about an inch or so off your string line so to give yourself some wiggle room. Might try renting a coring machine (wet core) to get through the rock. Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestions. The 9 inch rock auger does not leave much room for being off, but the price of those things gets unreasonable if you go to big in diameter.

I thought maybe you melted in the heat out there.................We had some heat, but very dry this summer. That is interesting ground, here you got acouple inches of top soil and then nothing but rock/hard clay under it. Last posts I put in weren't deep enough, but when you hit bolders as big as the skidsteer, your options on depth are limited, so more posts. I thought everyone out there built fence either from barb wire for property lines, and used sucker rod/pipe for high pressure containment fence. I sure would like to ditch all my wood/wire high pressure containment fence in my barn yard for guard rail, since sucker rod is not common here for cheap. Glad to hear your doing well.

Hey Tp! Steel would be a great option. The best probably, but it’s just out of reach for me financially unfortunately. Also I don’t know that I would want to spend all the money on materials and then trust my welding skills so I would be paying labor on top of it. Maybe when I become a millionaire in another life lol. This has been my worst year yet as far as rain goes. I have literally mowed my yard 2 times all season. The grass was gone over a month ago. Haven’t seen it this dry in a long time. Hope all is well. Good hearing from you!

@@dexterranch Its farming, to be millionaire you need to start with a billion! Doesn't show much on the drought map, but we are worse than the map shows here. I finished first cutting hay on the around the 20th of June and it rained a bit the evening after I was done, had not got anything other than dust settlers until 2 days ago here. I am not sure if a second cutting will happen or not since all of my hay ground is up on the mountains here, which is even drier than I am being in the valley next to a river. Haven't figured out a plan for that yet. Might green chop until winter, running out of good weather for dry hay and I am not setup to wrap or for silage anymore. I guess if it wasn't different every year it would be boring.................

A wood post is a short lived type of post ! All that work should be rewarded with a heavy pipe POST that won't turn into mush with the heat-cold-freeze-expand-contract cycles most fences are undergo during a calender year ! You're doing yourself a Big Disservice by not installing the strongest posts for your fence !
