Have you noticed that insurance for homes with a wood stove is sky high? There is a reason for that. You must clean your wood stoves every year and the process can be quick and easy.
Also, it's important to maintain your wood heating stove so that it remains as efficient as possible. You want to get the most amount of burn from your stove and with a little upkeep, it's no problem.
Also, when it comes to wood heating stoves for your home, you get what you pay for. Don't be afraid to spend the most money you can afford. The higher dollar stoves are WAY more efficient and will maximize your homes heating. Plan on spending at least $1000 on a stove and go up from there.

Hey, I just had a chimney fire last night. Brand new stove and pipe. We were burning ash wood. Some must have been damp in the center. I’m a 56 year young woman , but with snow on the roof Im getting a guy in . Come spring I’ll do it myself. Thanks for the instructions💪

Good job! I use to have a small woodstove, 18" fire box ( from the door to the back wall ). After 20 years of cutting 16" wood to fit this stove, I upgraded to a stove that has a 24" fire box. Cutting wood that is 16" is a lot of work, especial if you don't want to have a chunk of wood that is too long keeping the door from closing in the middle of the night! For those of you who are going to buy a stove, get one that is big, you can make a small fire to take the chill off the house and burn a larger variety size of wood, but you can not make a small stove bigger. If you are going to buy local cut firewood most is 18" in length, you won't be able to close the door on a small stove with wood cut 18", you will have to ask for a shorter length and pay the same price . You might have to open a window or two with a big stove until you learn how to use it! That is a lot better than messing around with small wood and if you have a real cold spell you won't get COLD with a big stove!

How much wood do you burn a year? I just picked up a 42 apex. Really happy with it so far. 0.69 emissions. I plan on burning 3-4 cords. Do I have to clean it sooner or would once a year be fine? Everything is oak and half kiln dried

I have a fire place, and I do need to clean it. I had an idea to make a wood framed plastic cover to place over the hearth opening with a hole to insert a vacuum Nozel. I figured by creating a negative pressure atmosphere in the chimney and fireplace while cleaning the flue, it should emensly help keep soot out of the house!

In Denmark,EU it's the law that chimneys get cleaned twice per year. The government keeps track too. If you have a septic tank that gets cleaned twice per year by law as well. Tfs

Because there is a 45 deg. angle at the ceiling that the brush will not pass through.

Just asking, why no stove board/heat shield on the walls behind the stove? After all you are talking about safety...
@luederst
@luederst 7 жыл бұрын
We used the manufacture's recommendation of 10" from the wall so no stove board is required. The heat shield on the back of the stove is sufficient.

Use a plastic bristle brush on Stainless Steel flues so that you don't scratch the interior all up. Helps the flu sections last longer (forever) and doesnt give the soot anything to grab onto.

There is no reason to climb up on a roof to clean a metal chimney like that. Use the bottom up method.

To clean the glass in the door of your stove, use ashes. Use 2 or 3 paper towels, dampened, and lightly coat it with fine ashes right from the bottom of your stove. Rub the glass and the soot stains almost magically wipe easily away. Easy!

Removing the pipe to clean outside is a waste of time and effort. Disconnect the pipe attached to the stove, place a 5 gallon bucket on top of the stove get on the roof and brush out. Boom you're done, and you don't have to worry about splitting your plastic bag open.

Bullshit. The reason insurance companies charge high prices for having a wood stove is because they're greedy. Most people I know that burn wood aren't stupid enough to want to burn themselves and their children alive and act accordingly. They're not lazy. Maybe YOU are. I know a lot of experienced wood burners who could teach insurance companies what is safe and what is not. But they wouldn't be interested in it. All they're interested in is money and they're doing quite well, thank you. Unless of course you want to show me some stats to back up your claim. In which case I'll change my opinion.
