Don't throw away the ends of the branches. Do this instead. In this new woodturning video the wood turning project is turned from a leftover piece of cedar branch. I turned an oil lamp using a larger container then the last one for a longer burn time. I added burn lines for more detail and finished it with friction polish that I make from shellac.

Nice! You could use the wood lathe, make a little bell shaped end on a dowel, cut a circle of brass and spin up some candle snuffs. Buy a dozen tea lite get a snuff at cost?

...cool idea...👍...thanks for this... I still don't have a bowl gouge as I use my belt/disc sander to sharpen what I do have, and I worry about destroying it on the sander. Maybe if you can show me how you get such a clean edge on yours, I could give it a shot???... Matt

Thanks! I sharpen on a belt sander too. I showed a little bit a couple videos ago. You need the wolverine jig to hold the gouge. I think I paid around 30 bucks for it. That was more then my bowl gouge. Lol. I made a homemade base to set it in. I'll show some more in another video.

It's the 12 x 36 harbor freight model. It doesn't have much for bells and whistles but it's been a good one.

@@allendavis2144 Sort of. I mix it different then the way it's mixed online. I plan on doing a video on it soon. Basically I use the can of shellac from the hardware store and I mix a little bit of finish oil to it. If you pour the shellac into a 12 oz container you would add about 1 oz of finish oil. That's my approximate mixture.
