What I want to know is, say I want the thinnest part of my leg to be 1 in at the ankle. But I'm rounding it off. So, shouldn't I make my pattern to compensate for the removal of material to round it? Otherwise the piece will actually end up thinner than desired?

Great thanks. I wNt to make a French style dining table with cabriole legs but have a scroll as the foot. I can’t find a video on the basics of carving it (setting it out etc. do you know where I can find such a thing? Thank you in advance.

scrolls are quite tricky. I worked out an approach but that would be a whole video in itself. I hope that there is one out there, but I'm not aware of it. I worked it our by drawing it on a poplar blank then using a combination of a saw and a big gouge to generate the shape, then carved the details.

@@jeanine6492 I drew the spirals on the piece and used a saw to cut that spiral vertically and a gouge to remove the wood horizontally. That probably sounds wierd but if you try it you may be surprised. I didn't get the idea in advance - I just realized as I was carving it the there were two surfaces that made up the spiral and that this was a fast way of making the waste wood go away.
