More than 4 years have passed since I made the first Lignum lounger. Design just slightly changed over the years, just stronger spine and spruce back rest instead of birch plywood but the way I make it changed a lot so I thought it would be cool to show how I make it today. This is the current way it is produced. This one is made from spruce, main spine is 10x8 cm made from 40 layers of 2mm thick veneer. Back rest is made from 2cm thick slats, 55 pieces total. Glue I use for the spine is two component melamine glue with long open time and for connecting the slats to the spine I use D3 pvac glue. Dowels are 8mm made from beech wood.
I hope you like the video and as always, subscribe for more.

@lignumchannel
@lignumchannel 2 жыл бұрын
150 Kg is what I tested it with but it I think it can take much more. I don't think it would even brake but flex until touching the bottom part.. But the shock could be an interesting extra design feature😉
@peteaulit
@peteaulit 2 жыл бұрын
@@lignumchannel wow 150kgs, I’m impressed !! You could also design and make your own shock with laminated strips like you used in the frame. Something in the shape of a snake maybe or even more fun, a coil made out of wood but not sure how this could be made. Maybe laminate a stack to make a post and use your robot to carve a coil?

What IS the weight capacity? What changes would you need to make to not only support 500 lbs but the impact of said person dropping into the lounger and fidgeting around? No doubt wider; two support spines; dish out a little deeper for calves; curve a little further in lumbar support (or dish out more for gluteal room); maybe shape some room for large upper arms? Finding comfortably furniture for large people is challenging.
