To use a plane you make yourself is the ultimate woodworking experience. Yes, very fulfilling. Thanks.

Wooden planes are very addicting, you're going to love it. Best to you on your build.

Beautiful planes. Those wispy shavings are fantastic. I like the ebony tote things that fit the hand so well. I'm building a wooden plane myself right now, so this is inspirational.

@joeliwest I use equal parts of Boiled Linseed oil, pure Tung oil, varnish and turpentine for the first coat only. After that I just use the Linseed, Tung and varnish mix. Rub out final finish with equal part of Mineral oil and Turpentine using 1500 grit paper. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Get his DVD as well. Improved my plane making skills enough that I have been able to sell several of mine.

Got a book coming from David Finick on making Kernov planes. I only hope that I can make plane half as fine as these.

FREAKING WOW
@wnwoodworks12 жыл бұрын
A lot of Krenov, that goes without saying. The only thing I did different is I tune it up like a Japanese plane. Hollow out part of the sole, which results in better shavings. The sound track is from The editing software package "Final cut pro" It's called "Awareness.caf" does not give the artist's name.
@jimbo26296 жыл бұрын
How do you mean”hollow out part of the sole? Thanks.
@wnwoodworks11 жыл бұрын
The music is part of royalty free music package that came with my Mac. "Soundtrack Pro" It doesn't give title or composer. Sorry.

Hi William - Just found your video and was knocked out by the quality of your work. It has confirmed that I want to make some planes now I have retired. I would love to know where you get your blades or if you make them yourself. I live in England and things like that are not so easy to find. If you do make your own, perhaps that's another video??? Love the style and in particular the rear tote. I have extensive stocks of exotics left over from my guitar making days so they will come in well for plane making. I'd love to take one of your classes but the distance is just a bit far. Keep up the amazing work - Best wishes and Happy New Year!!! - Dave

What finish do you put on the planes in the end? Is that linseed oiled sanded and waxed?
@DaveHealey12 жыл бұрын
yep, lots of Krenov there... gorgeous shavings! curious, what's the music track?

Beautiful stunning and those mallets are intriguing also,,,,, when you epoxy the brass face plate to the choice of wood do they ever come off from use ??
@wnwoodworks7 жыл бұрын
We also added brass dowel to secure the plate. For regular adjustment use, there should be no issues with the face plate coming off.
@carbonitegamorrean83687 жыл бұрын
Nice, thx.

Hi William, How can I get my hands on one of those mallets? Do you have plans for purchase or the mallets themselves?
@wnwoodworks7 жыл бұрын
We don't sell them, too labor intensive and I don't have plans. Never thought about putting plans together, maybe in the future. Thanks.

Was that an Ebony mallet head??!!
@wnwoodworks5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's an Ebony mallet head. It's not practical but it sure looks good. In class I recommend Bubinga head with hickory handle which looks great also.

Seems like it’s not possible to get such shavings from a English Plane....
