A woodland wild camp for which I had a great plan. Somehow none of it seemed to work out the way I wanted! Come along and see what happened....

Hi Niall. Its the firs time I heard of someone nipping home for a Chinese takeaway while out camping 🤣🤣, Fair play on the camp. A night in the forest and in a tarp . Its not for everyone. An enjoyable watch 👍

Maybe I could start a new trend? I guess next level is a takeaway delivery to camp 🤣

Woods is safety, that's why people go there in times of conflict etc

That wind in the trees is exactly why i go camping . Its called nature .. next time capture the noise , itll give you a task while you drink it in to your soul. Your laugh at the end says it all . A solo camper is born

Way too much wind for comfort that night but it is hard to beat the sound of wind in the trees. Still enjoyed it and every camp adds to the experience 🙂

Good plan Niall, I like your thinking. Once your kit is up in the woods you've committed and had to go back. As for digestives, the cheaper the better. Cheaper means bigger lumps of sugar to crunch through. And of course, anything eaten outside has zero calories!

Always be wary of camping in woods if it is stormy. Strong winds can bring trees down, and I wouldn't like to be under one when it does. Always bring comfortable sound limiting ear plugs and a comfortable eyemask. I've learned that the hard way. Be very very careful when lighting gas in a pine wood. You are surrounded by candles, quite literally. Those flames were too close to a tree whose sap and bark are both highly flammable.

Thanks for the advice, all very good. That's an area I've been in a few times and I'd already checked for dodgy trees. Unfortunately with the Irish climate and especially the period leading up to this you would be hard pushed to light one of those trees with a blowtorch 😭 Ground fires now are a whole other story. Very dangerous on our peaty soils!

That was some adventure alright. Handy you could nip home for a Chinese then get back to the tarp. I don't sleep well when camping at all, regardless of whether I have earplugs or not. I usually end up having little to no sleep until about 7 or 8 in the morning and then I am comatose until about midday. It's very inefficient if I want to actually hike as well as camp. Great to see you out camping anyway. Looking forward to your next ones.😊👍

Thanks Kevin 😊 I lost track of the number of times I wish I had earplugs but then my brain may have gone into paranoia mode anyway without audio input 🙈 Hopefully my next night is more restful 🤞

Baldrick, love it :-) Great to have that forest on your doorstep Niall, handy for nipping out for a cheeky takeaway! 🤤 Sounds like it was an exciting night though, glad you avoided the widow makers🌬🌲! Looking forward to hearing what's in store for 2024!

I really enjoyed this - thank you. I've done 6 overnighters in the woods now, and each have been a challenge strange noise and learning the lessons the hard way-wise, but I've loved it and most importantly have felt alive and more deeply connected to nature doing it. 😊

That was an enjoyable watch Niall! A great idea to setup and head home for the important ‘Chinese job’ before heading back to spend the night. A great experience no doubt even without much sleep! Well done for sticking with it and gaining the experience that you did 🤗 It looked great and you looked very happy!! 😎

Niall, a cool local wild place for your micro adventure and first wild camp in a good while👍 Love the sound of the wind blowing through the forest🌲and even better when the rain🌨 has disappeared. Great that you were able to set up and then head home for dinner and come back later👍 Cost of living these days means McVities isn't on the shopping list that often😊 Forest camping is definitely different to wild camping out on the hills😊

Where would you say is the best place to go for your frist wild camp please
@nialloutdoors
@nialloutdoors 6 ай бұрын
Oh, tough one. Depends how much experience you have but I'd say go somewhere you know already, somewhere close to home or your vehicle so you can safely retreat if things go wrong and maybe go with a friend before you go solo so you can share experiences. I'd also highly recommend a back yard camp or in an official campsite in advance so that you can test your gear before heading into the wild. Good luck 💪👌
