I've had those types of pencils before, and I noticed occasional defects or crystals of harder patches in them as you went through the pencil, it may be causing the breakage or scratchiness you are feeling occasionally. I didn't like them so much because they snapped and broke very easily (such as falling on the floor or being carried around with other gear) and also the advantage of having a larger surface to draw with was never something (with my very limited skill) that I actually took advantage of. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and your impression of them with us. But then again if you need a high heat electrode they should work pretty great for that. :)

+UnbeltedSundew Yeah, it's annoying. You go into this mode where you're in sync with your drawing and then all of a sudden 'screech!' It's like being dereailed=).

Can I make one suggestion for beginners with sketching, because I used these pencils aswell and I found that holding the pencil in the non traditional way may help with the shading like holding the point to the side and layering. Com-binding the pencils definitely helps.

Nice overview of these pencils. I have been using a set of these for 4 months now. I didn't feel these were rough. They feel smoother than my Derwent pencils I also use.

This might help but this brand says they use a lacquer that covers the graphite so that's probably why it feels a little bit rougher then a normal wooded pencil. Hopes this helps..love your channel!

Thanks. I saw these in a shop today, I've never seen this type of pencils before. But you are using it like a normal pencils. They are meant to be used for large shading and broad strokes, right?

I'm testing a "Pentalic" hb right now as we speak, it's a pretty good pencil, I got just to take on the road to do light sketches. but sharpening it with a pencil sharpener almost kills the pencil.

Yes, they are like regular pencil. great for broad shading.

+prathviraj patil I like the Strathoore drawing papers. They have different series with different textures and weight. The medium textured paper works well. I would recommend heavy weight papers though.
