Woodturning a Live Edge Bowl - The Cedar Flower

Күн бұрынTurning this live edge bowl gave me so many issues, but I love the result! I used face plates because red cedar is very soft and likes to come loose from chucks. The finish is Rustoleums Triple Thick Glaze; about 9 coats, three back to back at a time with 400 grit in between.

Do you have any videos about stabilizer, stopping the leeching of the red cedar, or finishing in general? What varnish, poly, etc. Do you like?

I made a bowl similar to this one but one day it cracked and now it looks awful. Is there any way to stop my bowls from cracking. I'm a new woodturner so I know there alot for me to learn, but I seriously need help. Is there anything I can do for future bowls I make?

How are you liking the new Laguna lathe? Is that an 18x36? I'm thinking about upgrading my 12x21 jet

I love this new lathe! I was fortunate to get it second hand for a decent price. Its the 1836 and only 1.5hp (the 110 model) but I haven't had any issues with it bogging down. The banjo design is annoying and bulky, but I'm hoping that a longer tool rest will help that.
