Thank you for watching and subscribing! This is my 6th filmed project, and I have been woodturning since January 2019! I have turned redwood before, and it tends to produce more dust than shavings. I was surprised how quickly the turning process went on this bowl! I hope you all enjoyed it!

Good job with this burl. Very interesting finishing technique. I am going to try it.
@DavidAdamsen
@DavidAdamsen 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Brent! Since the burl was so dry and soaked up the finish so fast, I applied the beeswax and orange oil twice and sanded 5000 grit between each coat. I turned another piece of redwood without a finishing wax coat, but I think the wood really pops with the extra wax on it. Over time, at least in my experience, redwood figure becomes more and more visible. The wax coat simply keeps the wood from getting too thirsty too quickly. Good luck in your turning! :)

Hello! Really love watching your videos on here I'd really like to get in to doing something like this! And I came up with an idea of what I wanna see made that I'd like to make myself one day. A darbuka which is a drum and for it to be hand made from wood would be the cool thing ever. So if you take recommendations of what to make next that's what I say so one day when I get the chance to try to make one I have a video to look back on by and amazing artist!! Keep up the great work I really appreciate the videos and the wonderful work you do!

David I just subscribed to your channel first time watching you heard about you from Rod H. Glad I did beautiful piece of God gift! wow never seen someone using your finishing style. if you don't mind where do you get your stuff would like to try it! I started turning a few years ago after our passed it helps my mind and it is addicting wish I started sooner but I really like that piece of burl great job will watch more! thanks Larry from Fremont cailf!
@DavidAdamsen
@DavidAdamsen 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, Larry! I have been watching Rod Humphrey since I started wood turning January last year. He is truly a great talent and an inspiration! I treat the Howards as more of a wood conditioner that helps bring out the color of the wood. Once that is decently cured, I like using the Mahoney's wax as a final finish to boost the shine and add protection. The 5000 grit sanding helps remove any raised grain from the acids and denatured alcohol.

After putting so much effort in the bottom, I would hate to go through or have a bad catch while hollowing. That's why I'm applying my finish after the turning is done. All that stuff in bottles & pots does not come for free. Would hate to waste it on a failed project!

I have seen walnut oil used, but not walnut wax. Why that particular wax?
@DavidAdamsen
@DavidAdamsen 4 жыл бұрын
I like walnut wax because, at least from my perspective, it finds the balance between shine without too much shine and because it is fairly robust for a food safe finish. I also enjoy the application process.
