The one thing that I haven’t heard discussed about Woody Allen is how intelligent and well read he is. I definitely picked up on what I perceive as his intelligence in this interview. He is certainly a comedic genius - I can’t think of a writer/director/actor who has had me convulsed in laughter as many times as Woody Allen. He found his passion and pursued it to great success in his life.

and who cares if he married his ex-girlfriend's daughter, whatever. He is apparently happily married, he and Soon-Yi dote on each other, what's the crime? He can write, act, direct, and his comic timing is flawless. People have been trying to beat him over the head with the marriage for years, and he STILL makes great films. He's made me laugh for the better part of 45 years, he is a NY icon. Watch the film clip he did at the Oscars in 2002, it was brilliant.

Marios Panagi That speaks to the legality of his marriage to Soon-Yi, not the moral permissibility. I very much consider my mother's partner a father and I met him when I was 14, not nine.
@milla0722
@milla0722 9 жыл бұрын
I think Marios Panagi means that Mia Farrow and Woody Allen never lived under the same roof. Mia had something like 10 children of her own (including Soon-Yi), who Woody almost never spoke to. Woody was only concerned with the children he had with Mia. Even Mia admits this herself. She even is the one who suggested Woody to go out with Soon-Yi in order to know her better, since they barely even spoke. Soon-Yi was an adult then, and that is when they fell in love. The only thing I think Woody is guilty of, is that he should have left Mia way sooner before starting to get too close with Soon-Yi. That being said, if you want to complain about a pedophile, let's talk about Roman Polanski.

Love Woody Allen. "I never thought I was doing anyone a favour by bringing children into the world. With people as cruel to each other as they are, it’s a terrible proposition. The best of lives are sad and tragic. The best of them. My general conclusion is that it’s not a nice thing to do. The world doesn’t need it. The kid doesn’t need it. I can’t guarantee a child anything. I can’t guarantee that I was around five minutes after he or she was born." -- Woody Allen

Personally, I only admire and respect Woody Allen for his movies. I find them to be a kind of high art comedies that have been become cinematic legend for all time. As for his personal life, I felt sorry for him because of the controversy involving his family. I for one would have a hard time dealing with the way things had turned out for Mr. Allen and his family after so many years. Furthermore, I would have some difficulty in wishing Woody Allen only the best because of his personal life aside from his illustrious career.

@coloradoflier its TDGE122. Basically, it is once a week lecture for 3 hours. The professor will talk about variables/factors that consist of Woody Allen's movies. Screenplay, theme, cinematography, casting, music, WA's personal life, etc which affect the way he makes his movies. Then there are 3 essays due, 2 midterm papers and 1 final research paper. For the midterm papers - You focus on one theme (WA has many, such as psychotherapy, love vs. sex, morality, God is dead, etc)

the saddess thing is that Woody Allen doesn't appreciate how great he is and how much influential he was in Cinema.. he could have been as big as Spielberg and Coppola now. great producers. he is so respected that he could have made big money out of his talent. instead he chose a low-profile life, a really low low-profile life

@coloradoflier yeah, so the professor talks for about an hour in the beginning of the class, then we watch a movie (WA's movie generally runs ~95mins average) and he comes back up to hold a class discussion. He lets everyone say anything, and reply his thought & expertise to that opinion. He's really good at leading this conversation, even if someone says something completely random/sometimes silly, he would add something into make that argument more valid. Only at UCSD! :D

He has created a whole new genre from the basic drama movies, he's done his own thing for nearly 40 years now and he's the best at making these kind of movies. His dialogue and characters are quite unique compared to others. If someone says he hasn't done anything special or revolutinary in the film industry, then they just don't know what he's done. If he hadn't done anything special, the big movie stars wouldn't want to be in his films for super little money compared to their normal salaries.

I stand corrected, Nora Ephron made the film he introduced at the 2002 Oscars, and you may notice, if you care to watch, the standing ovation he received when he walked on the stage. His delivery of this clip is vintage Woody; self-depracating and very funny, at a time when New Yorker's needed a laugh. If you want to dwell on his personal life, and actually accuse him of a sham marriage to save face for some crime he didn't commit, then you have missed the boat, and your ignorance is obvious.
