Woody Woodpecker is especially beloved in Brazil. When I lived there, 10 years ago, they would still play reruns on national tv in primetime. They even have a common saying, "mau como pica-pau", which means "bad, like Woody Woodpecker".

Well, to be fair, in the original cartoons Woody was harassing other toons who can understandably take a lot more abuse than ordinary humans...hence why sticking him in a live-action movie was kind of a bad idea. :/

Yup. I know Woody’s a screwball but you’re right, he’s too extreme in this movie. This movie had potential but they decided to settle for typical family movie cliches, an unlikable main character and shoe horned sentimentality at the end. It’s nothing more than a blatant cash grab.
@nickdorenkamp959

@@benjackson7872 so basically a generic kids movie that had no effort what so ever and the studio only made it because that has gotten popular in one country and decided to make a movie based on the character because of his popularity in several countries and decided to give maybe one or two theatrical releases and everywhere else on DVD and Blu-ray. You know it's strange how several big name studios can get movies based on cartoon characters somewhere between right and did they even watch the show or any short films that character (s) were in, while movies like this one just flat out fail.
@benjackson7872
@benjackson7872 5 жыл бұрын
@@nickdorenkamp959 That's pretty much what i'm saying. If the movie was fully animated or better developed with its setting and characters (especially Woody by making him less mean spirited and more laid back) then the movie could've been decent. I agree, how Big name studios handle their characters and make these movies is just amazing. Sometimes they do care like in Roger Rabbit, The Lego Movies, Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas or even Looney Tunes Back in Action. Then you get movies like these or Yogi Bear. 😐

For those talking about the CA controversy, I do agree that Doug should make some sort of personal statement on the allegations and issues rather than a blanket message from CA or Michaud or any other mouthpieces. But I also appreciate that Doug is caught between a rock and a hard place right now: Michaud owns the IP to the Nostalgia Critic. How this came to be, I can't say. None of the other producers signed away their intellectual rights to their characters, but having read the doc and the things said about Michaud, especially in Allison Pregler/Obscurus Lupa's section, perhaps when Doug was "discovered" he signed a bad contract, perhaps out of excitement or naiveté or just plain stupidity. The same thing that gets people aspiring to entire many fields to do things for free for "exposure" (I've fallen into that trap early in my own career). Being the flagship personality/character that launched the website, it makes sense why Michaud would obtain/keep the rights to this character and no one else's. But this means that Doug has two choices now: he can keep silent and take the major hit to his reputation (the document didn't level many major complaints against him and Rob, but complaints WERE made, especially in regards to the anniversary movies and how they were handled and filmed) but keep the character he created and cultivated for well over a decade, or he can speak out and show a measure of integrity that may help him regain respect in the eyes of others, but could cost him his character as well as his livelihood. It's not as cut and dried as "Doug, you need to say something now" and it's possible he's struggling with this issue now (I believe this review was likely made before the controversy came up, hence why I'm not surprised it's not addressed here if it's ever going to be). It's even possible he may make a statement but out of self-preservation recite the company line. Doug definitely has some things to answer for, but the question of whether he will is a lot more complicated than most people demanding those answers are thinking it is.

@ebagentj 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but look how well rebranding himself or trying to change his image has worked in the past... I do agree that without the NC, CA and Michaud's cash cow would go down in flames, so Doug has some leverage there. It's a matter of whether he'd be able to show that amount of backbone. There's also legal precedent for him being able to get the IP back from Michaud if he wanted to (such as the case where Meat Loaf won the rights to the title "Bat Out of Hell" from Jim Steinman, who wrote the song/albums who bear those titles, because it was ruled they were more iconic of Meat Loaf than Steinman.)

The way I see it, Doug is in the very definition of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. If he actually addresses all the controversy being directed towards CA, Mike will more than likely fire him, his relationship with his brother will more than likely be strained, and CA will more than likely implode because let's be honest, most people *only* watch them for his Nostalgia Critic character. But, if he continues to stay silent, his work will more than likely continue to be overshadowed by all this controversy to the point that it will practically ruin his entire career because the very nature of this controversy is the kind of shit that, in today's social climate, does *not* blow over easily... Either way, I *definitely* don't want to be in his shoes right now...

For those who don't know, allow me to give a very brief summary of the controversy surrounding Channel Awesome. All of it was gathered into a Google doc, and I recommend finding it for the full story. Just note, it's VERY long. In any case, former producers, Obscurus Lupa, Linkara, Marzgurl, Suede, among others, have issued complaints towards Channel Awesome for mismanagement. Doug and Rob were accused of being in the own worlds, and arguing with each other over the dumbest of things, causing shooting to be behind schedule for their anniversary movies. Also, they were not told of the Nostalgia Critic's then retirement, and from the script, had the impression that they were being forced to retire as well. They also had routinely forgotten about the people there, and even told them to deliver the lines like Doug. Mike Ellis, a former higher up, was accused of trying to harass a female worker, despite being married, and having very poor communication with the producers. Luckily, he was fired from the company before he could do too much harm. Mike Michaud however, had the most complaints thrown at him. He was accused of not communicating with people very well, believing ScrewAttack was a rival, making sexist comments, bullying the producers to the point of tears, mismanaging funds, among other things. Mike also refused to pay the producers for their videos, and when Marzgurl set up a Blip account to make money, Michaud was furious. Michaud was also angry with people who set up Patreons, forcing Suede to remove his video talking about the pros and cons of Patreon, and apparently firing Lupa over just making one. Bhargav was the only one I didn't see singled out. Whether that's because he was a total sweetheart, or he didn't get caught doing anything, I don't know. ToddInTheShadows has confirmed these, saying he hasn't heard any lies from the complaints. Again, this is a VERY condensed version. Doug and Rob, while not terrible, did wrong, and need to address and apologize for their actions. But Michaud was the absolute worst. How he is still with the company, I still don't know. Again though, find the Google doc for the full story.

First Yogi Bear (and many more) and now Woody Woodpecker gets to suffer of being turned from a legendary classic cartoon character to a CGI abomination that like to tells bad jokes all the time. It always begins with the CGI character doing a bad joke (often it is a poop joke because year 2000s were the poop age, 1990s where the barf age), then it cuts to the real life secondary character where a guy has problem with his business and spend the rest of his time with his family, and this last about half hour. If you ever wonder why they keep making this bad CGI/Live action movies based on great cartoon characters from the 1950s to 1980s, I only have one word: Money.

This all because you don't like the implications. I understand why you'd want to defend them, you like their content. Just don't be presumptuous and make excuses for what has happened. You know, a lot of KZfaq community’s have been falling from grace over the past couple of years. The Creatures have fallen apart. BlastphamousHD has lost friends and is a shell of his former self. Smosh has lost one of its core talent and is being abandoned by it’s fan base. Yogscast is a shell of its former self. At this point, there are very few full KZfaq group channels that are still together and thriving. Doug, you were one of the content creators that I held dear for a long time. Channel Awesome has flourished under your touch and I have followed your reviews and loved for them for about five years now. And I was hoping Channel Awesome would be the group that never fell in such controversy as the others. But, I am wrong. And I still have much respect and love for you and your channel. But, honestly, there’s a lot you need to address right now. This is NOT something you can sit on and ignore. You need to reply and get a handle on this situation before the situation implodes. There’s a lot of reviewers out there that you need to show that you still value. And if you can’t, maybe it’s time for Channel Awesome to shut down. Don’t get me wrong, I want you guys to continue and flourish. You’ve provided me nothing but entertainment for years. But you cannot flourish if these documents are true and you’ve been mistreating your creators. I hope to subscribe back one day when everything is back in order, but until then, I’ll be unsubbing. Please address the situation and provide a solution before things get out of hand. Wish you all the best

Doug, please come clean with everybody. I'd believe that almost all the problems with Channel Awesome are because of your CEO, Mike Michaud. You, your brother, and everyone else working for the channel can walk away from this controversy unscathed but you need to tell your fans your side of the story. And if Michaud tries to silence you, just know that the over one million subscribers on this channel will stand behind you: the face of Channel Awesome, not the man upstairs. I woke up to a ton of likes and a huge comment chain. So thanks for that, I guess. I read everything, and yes, I realize that the Nostalgia Critic along with all it's various sketches and characters are not owned by Doug so it's not like walking away wouldn't have consequences. But if Michaud and the other producers behind this garbage won't own up and step down, then Doug and the others probably need to either confront them about this mess or, if that's just not going to work, leave for the sake of saving their reputations and integrity. And it's not like we'd lose Doug and his friends reviewing stuff if they walked off since they could easily make a new channel and go from there- albeit having to start from scratch in terms of making new characters, personas, and sketches to work with. If he made a public announcement about him and the crew walking away from Channel Awesome, I'm certain thatall of us would file out of Channel Awesome and into the new channel because we want to support these guys who have entertained us for years and ignore the people who were in charge that are giving this channel and everyone involved with it a bad name. Think it over and please be civil to each other. At the end of the day, we all want the same thing: for Doug, Rob, and everyone else who's innocent here to get through this mess.

That was due to one person doing something terrible for what?, a few years or so? This shit with CA has been going on for almost a decade and has affected EVERYONE attached to the site. It was easier for the higher ups who weren't responsible to apologize for the actions of one person than it will be for all 3 of the higher ups, Doug, Rob and Mike to apologize and make up for shit THEY did, or in other cases didn't do.

The lead guy sexually harassed a few people, basically. They were instantly kicked off the team and a pretty big video was made on all the changes Screen Junkies would make to ensure it never happened again- a good way of doing things. I think Doug's just trying to ignore it so he doesn't have to acknowledge it to people.

I think it is safe to say that Doug and Rob need to address this controversy. Some people think they are responsible for the controversy, others think they are just unwitting bystanders. It is a pretty confusing situation, so I doubt it is all so black and white, and we haven't yet heard their response. Whether or not you think Doug and Rob are responsible (I personally don't think they're completely guilt free, but I don't see them as having acted maliciously) it would be interesting to hear it from their perspective. I think we can all agree on one thing though. Mike Michaud is a dick.

As tired as CA seems at times these days, I don't want to see it go down in disgrace. What's needed from the Walker brothers I think is to do something about Michaud's stranglehold on the company, apologize to the right people and, if they want to remain relevant, rethink their content so it gets more than an occasional chuckle.

I'm surprised this thing blew up just now apparently. I heard half of what people are talking about years ago when most creators split from CA. I'm sure the files people got go into more detail and whatever but the gist seems the same. So people are surprised about something that was out there for years, and apparently are also shocked that shitty things happen behind the scenes in entertainment business. I don't get it.

They did NOT release a video right away. Screen Junkies was inactive for about 3 weeks following the "Best Harrison Ford Performance?" MovieFights episode (Andy Signore's last appearance) until they came out with an apology video. That downtime was used to get everything straightened out. For reference: "Best Harrison Ford Performance?" was Oct 5, 2017. The apology video was Oct 26, 2017.

To those who seem extremely concerned about Doug's income as a result of the Google Doc: Doug and Rob watched Mike hurt many content creators on the website for years. That isn't okay. Mike didn't want anyone to take time off for anything. Are you sick? Nope. Need surgery? Nope. Personal problems that you need one or two days to sort out? Nope. People were fired for petty reasons, and sometimes for no reason at all. Imagine getting on the site that hosts your content and suddenly it's all gone. Which means your income is suddenly gone. How is that okay? How is that fair? Where's the concern for those people? Doug is Mike's cash cow. I don't know what will ultimately happen to CA, but if Doug ends up flat broke as a result then he should have saved some money.

this is what i said on the matter on another video i also read a lot of the document, allot of is a standard rant, not all of its 'reaching a serious level of abuse....' just team member disagreements: (read on before you judge) "has Lupa actually talked about this document in her videos or tweets? anyone can put a document together and state it as fact from different sources it is on a doc link, and not on a website... which actually seems odd to me, like under the radar? as this will be very obscurely hidden and will make no change happen... it will only be found by those who want to find it like I'll stay subscribed, only unsubscribe in protest if the content is proven by a first person (someone who has contributed) because Walkers videos i enjoy, the output is great I also enjoy Lupa's reviews and she goes down as one of my fav reviewers this should not happen in any business, Micheal acts seem manipulative and abusive but i just don't want to jump to conclusion, it will be nieve, nearly troll like to unsubscribe for a document even i can put together about any channel. Lupa would come out more and say it if she wants to make a change and defend her deserved rights! i'm not saying its untrue, just looking for profe :)"

So many people here are saying that if Doug speaks up he'll get fired. Mike Michaud has been slimy for years but what is he without his Nostalgia Critic? What worth can Channel Awesome be when it's whittled down to nearly nothing but NC content? Firing Doug would be killing the goose laying the golden eggs. My 2 cents Doug, in the past you didn't stand up for others steamrolled by upper management. It's crappy to be under such management for everybody involved yet you didn't raise a finger. It looks as if you didn't because you benefit from the favoritism. So now are you going to speak out to save yourself or are you going down with the ship? Painted yourself into a corner it seems. Maybe you can save some face by coming clean and cleaning up the act. I find you and your crew entertaining but it's time to clean house and do things like a professional.

The problem is that Michaud owns the Nostalgia Critic IP. Even though he would be nothing without Doug and Rob, he'll still be able to stop them completely from continuing to produce any and all NC content if he so pleases. It's basically mutually assured destruction, if Michaud goes, so does the entire NC series. Really shows what a psychopathic dick Michaud really is, although the fact that the Walkers didn't speak up with such horrible things going on, doesn't sit with me very well. Apparently the IP is too important to stop the abuse for them, at least it seems to me that way.
@EGOS42
@EGOS42 6 жыл бұрын
You make a point. I'm considering that there have been allegations going way back. The document is simply putting them in one place to avoid confusion and to clarify each individual account. It may or may not be true on a point by point basis. There are people involved whom I believe to be truthful but you're right, there is a lack of proof. That said the mass exodus of talent from CA does point to mismanagement, incompetence or worse. I think most here are like me and we're asking for a statement. I did say some negative things about Michaud and that may be because he hasn't been forward with public responses to years of allegations. At minimum it points to a disregard of public relations. Also snowflake is a really ridiculous term to use for this occasion. I suppose standing up for yourself when wronged makes you a "snowflake". Cringey.

"Channel Awesome is nothing without the Nostalgia Critic". That may be true, but the past has proven that neither is Doug. Channel Awesome owns NC, and they could just as well fire the Walkers and give the name to some other guy while Doug is left without a job and banned from ever using his IP ever again. As far as being complicit in the misconduct of the people in charge, honestly in what I've read of the document he comes off as pretty dumb more than anything else.
