Josh, I live in North Central Florida, which is commonly known as the "Lightning Capital of the World" and the pine trees here are very bad to draw lightning. We've had a couple of them on our little old 2+ acres be struck by lightning. If I had my way, they'd be gone, but it's expensive to have them removed. Of course, the ones that were struck by lightning died -- so they had to come down!

Hey Josh, in this video you are talking a year to three years ahead. Have you sat down with a map of the property and then determined priorities and budgeted accordingly? Certainly sounds like it and I was wondering how you determine your priorities? What's the focus? Finish one area perfectly and move on or start an area and come back to it?

We are in the process of doing the same thing,clearing 12 acres for a cow/goat pasture,excavator will be clearing in the morning. Plan to have Tifton 85 spriged,hope to have cows on the pasture by next summer,area we are clearing is More dense and has larger trees.each one the excavator pushes over the big ones then digs out the root and puts the trees whole in a burn pile.only trees we are keeping are the big oaks,some of the oaks are 80 to 100 ft high,over 150 yrs old,taking out all other trees including all pine trees.

Could you not have used animals to help clear the area first? Seems like a rather aggressive method to clear the land. Pigs and goats would do a great job of it. It also means all that woody material has gone into the topsoil and you have disturbed the topsoil. Could you not go in and chop the trees and woodchip them? If you ever need to get stumps out clean and you have a 360 that big, get a curved hook made up. Much cleaner way to rip the stumps out. That big bucket makes a mess.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 3 жыл бұрын
How do you contain these land clearing animals? How many pigs and how many goats and how many years would it take? 200 goats and 50 years? You're taking for granted this land was smooth and nice before we started...Joel Salitans entire pork operation is on an area this big...who's gonna buy these pigs? Too much KZfaq and not enough experience causes these suggestions to surface...It would take $30k in fencing alone...ever see someone building fence in dense brush? Nope...and ya never will. Follow the channel and you'll see...all the pastures on this farm are less than 4 years old...already no fertilizer required...follow me to learn how to build your soils...what I do works my friend
