As a straight cis male, everytime you tell this story Boba, it reminds me of how much of a badass you are, and that there really are such genuinely kind people out there. I'll probably never fully understand the hardships the trans community has to go through, but I've learned so much from watching you over the years, and I hope you continue to educate and help people in this way.

As someone who has gone to Planned Parenthood for my Trans Healthcare and have seen some of these processes in place, in Michigan BTW, I believe you have done more for Trans health then most Doctors have. You have my adoration and appreciation. You went from a new member of the Yogcast to one of my favorite members in such a short time! Thank you for being so Awesome!

My son and I discovered the Yogs a decade ago, about the same time Boba did. I am (like Boba) a human Yogpedia. My son is now my daughter in her first year of college; she hasn't tracked the Yogs in years. However, the Jaffa factory remains a yearly holiday tradition. I love the examples set by Boba, Zoey, and other Yogs over the years. This video is a hug at numerous levels.

I rarely catch your streams live sadly. But I wanted to say as a trans woman, I watch all the vods, and they have helped me through so so many bad times, and continue to do so. The constant bombardment of transphobia in the media, the slurs, the death threats online. It can all be so isolating, and so many Cis people, especially those in healthcare, are sadly not half of the amazing person you are! You might not see this, and others have already said it. But I wanted to say thank you so so much for everything you’ve done and do. Lots of love from a trans VOD Goblin ❤️💖💜 Edit; also watching this made me cry, I wish we had a Boba in the NHS 🏳️‍⚧️

Also, don't feel uncomfortable about 'bragging' about this kind of stuff, as someone less familiar with the subject it's a very useful resource to learn how to help trans people more, however big or small the part I can play. I've had some really horrible experiences with doctors in general and knowing that there are people out there like Boba that put that effort in makes me happy... I haven't found a new doctor since moving but my old doctor would ask *every single visit* if I was binding. Despite my top surgery being in my chart as well as pinned at the top in a little sticky note thing he wrote himself. He was really only good for getting my patches prescribed LOL. this video is so lovely though, i love hearing about Boba's history with this stuff Edit: some of this has me full on crying its so sweet,,,,

the clinic i go to for my HRT uses numbers so they dont deadname people or anything like that. Like there is a precheck in desk where you be like "yo im here" and they give you a number and the paper work to fill out. This clinic is also specifically for lgbtqia so they have their shit a bit more together than usual (Howard Brown around chicago for my fellow midwestern queers)

I think that, when I start HRT, I'm going to take a picture of me every week so that I can track my Becoming. It is hard to see changes in yourself from within, as you said. I'm really glad i watched this. EDIT: tossing this in after the customer service part. My speaking voice isn't very malleable pitch-wise, and i get "sir"ed a lot. But "sir" is the ONE pronoun/title I cannot stand, mostly because I was raised with the idea of "sir" being a knightly masculine title, and I am not male nor a knight. I know there are people who see it as gender neutral, but being called it just rubs me the wrong way. At first, I would respond with "please don't call me 'sir'" but it's gotten so bad that I now just say "not a sir."

Trans woman here. Thanks so much for making healthcare more trans-friendly. I figured out I was trans at 16 back in 2008 in Texas, healthcare was way too scary for me. I didn't transition medically until 2022 when I became financially independent enough, and it was such a smooth experience. While I wish our healthcare was this friendly and understood when I was younger, I am glad future generations of trans folks will be able to enjoy such a positive healthcare experience.

It always disappoints me when my colleagues in healthcare fall so far short of the bare minimum when treating trans PTs, because it's so simple. You ask them their name, possibly also their pronouns, and then you use them. If it's clinically relevant, you can ask their sex assigned at birth as part of the Hx, but continue to use the name/pronouns you were initially given. It's not difficult and there should be no excuse for not trying.

I can relate to your dedication to excelence and to inclusion for me in my professional like tehe group I fellinto advocationg for where peopole with disapo;otties and inclsuioon of many of teh hidden non physocal diussabilities. I am also gay and was able to work with the idirector of one of teh nations first GSA;s. Are you aware of history of trans medical care not just in america but around the worlld. It os steeped in hatefull attitudes and violence against homosexuals it is sadly backed into those proceedures and the way we have even come to define who they are apropriate for. And while homosexual paersons may only constitute about 1/2 or a little less of those who get medical care to faciliatet transitioon that is a vast overrepresentation of the bublic at large, Couple that with the fact that to this day their are leading voices in thoise field of medicine and surgical care who seem to see little responcibility to distinguish if there where less invasive ways that would better serve paatients to allow them to live in tehworld as their authentic selves. We are using chemical castration medication to prevent children from the pubertal process in which most of these kids would historically in almost all cases have arrived at a firm understanding of tehir sexual interesets lessining the dysphoria as they come to uinderstand their orientation as the driver in their oother sex identification. Even Freud was unimpressed by Harry benjamine and thought he was acting out his self hatered as a represeed and frustrated homosexual on vulnerable people needlessly . It is not a cpoincidence that transitioning proceedures are most persued in countries with a traditoional concervative aproach to the role of men and women and that these countries that sdo more transitions are uber anti gay in their laws. Even the nation where yjos was all inovated in the Norweegion states and teh netherlands we in the wst assume theyare so accepting ignorant of the way the law facilitated decades of terror and threat for homosexuals who where vulnerable to state mandate ed castration or using agreement to be castrated to be released from prison or a menta instioitution practices wwhich where still in operation through till the late 70s. And in the US Canada and Great Britian the early woirk with families who such treatments where made available to or who refered their children for cvare while these families came from different places races and ecconmioc backgrounds they where joined in either seemingly intillerent and negative attitudes on homosexualuitty after all most sought a way to make tyhri child not gay or they jjust where clear that they would not have their child be gay The Aversion project in south africa seems like an outlier but I hold up the case in baltimore in 81 where a 17 year old boy was ordered against his will with the aproval oif his mother to be remanded to the vcare of the hospital for gender correction surgery in lue of jaikl sentance-- lucjkily he had ehelp evading such horrors though tragically it meant The hospital rareing to get to work on their gender ideas turned thri attention to the interesex births and found ways of expanding the number of kids so identified by calling for sex change in teh case of extreme hypospaides burried penis acended desticals micro penis and mascuulanized clitori.O fear in some ways you where not so much advocating for a group or population that has been held back al thiis time but coluding in the production of q newly minted profile of transgender person verry different in needs and challenges and best form of care than many of the trans lesbians who have led the fight and set the agenda for trans livberation for decafes .

I have no issue or axe to grind with trans people or anyone similar, however, if you are electing to be the kind of person who is outside of social norms, shouldn't you expect to deal with being mis-gendered? I mean, I know people who were cis gendered, but, others had periodically mistaken them, from the back or side, as the opposite sex. They didn't get that mad about it... All I'm trying to say. Have a wonderful day, regardless of my opinion.

They have to deal with it, but that doesn't means they should expect it.
@willowhealy453
@willowhealy453 Жыл бұрын
trans people can have (but not always) gender dysphoria which can make misgendering feel much worse, as well as the fact that in your example you use people getting accidentally mistaken every so often as an equivalent when very often trans people being misgendered is constant, and if day after day it feels like a core part of your identity is being disregarded by lots of people its fair to correct people over it and sometimes it boils over into frustration, i think something that helps in understanding the response is thinking of being called the direct opposite of what you want to be but it happening atleast once or twice a day (being generous because it can happen way more than that) over years of your own life, and very often trans people dont get mad about it, they correct it and move on but sometimes its just the straw that breaks the camels back
@refd
@refd Жыл бұрын
A CIS person might get misgendered a handful of times, whereas trans people can get misgendered hundreds of times, often intentionally, and in malicious ways. So, yes, you should 100% try to get someones pronouns correct. It will go a huge way in helping somoene. Also 'electing to be someone outside of social norms' is a terrible way to phrase it. All they are trying to be is themselves, they arent intending to be 'different' So, again, getting someones pronouns correct is a huge deal for someone who is very aware and conscious of their gender.

As the parent of a trans teenager, I acknowledge the sincerity of your question. In a similar way, I sometimes question the psychological grounding of "dead naming," even as I support my daughter's desire to face forward. I offer you the insight (and remind myself) that using the correct name and pronoun is an expression of support, acceptance, and unconditional love. Likewise, not using the correct name or pronoun can be a malevolent intention. It.costs nothing to err on the side of love and support. In the event of an honest mistake, offer an apology and express acceptance in the moment, and then move on. It can and should be as simple as being in line at the store: "So sorry, I didn't realize you were ahead of me. Go ahead." In time we will all know what to do in the moment.

Thank you for the perspective. What do you think trans teachers should be teaching our kids? other than the subject they're hired to teach? I don't believe trans teachers should be speaking on their anecdotal transition experience during History class. I also feel for primary teachers, kindergarten to 5th grade, teachers should not reprimand children that use the incorrect pronouns. The children that respond yes sir, or yes ma'am, that's manners too. Treating people the way they want to be treated is mostly polite with in reason. But to be shaming kids, punishing kids or even trying to persuade Children into using pronouns when they barely know the truth in science vs feelings. Sorry I know I sound anti trans. I'm only asserting that id prefer if we didn't add this to the primary school curriculum. I also think it would be beneficial to our pubescent children have the option /Opportunity to speak to some one like u. around my personal experience with feelings, when I went thru puberty I briefly felt I didn't want breasts and hair to grow, I even wished I was a boy. I'm grateful at that time trans wasn't the hot topic. I grew up when bisexual was the in thing. Thought I was for a second too. But it passed. Had I had professional guidance to reach out to about these feelings, I may not have struggled with it as much. Maybe in middle school we could have a sexual Identity guidance counselor. Instead of trans teachers speaking their anecdotal truth.

I think the fact that we so often push "straight" or "normal" things on children while sexualizing then is a much worse problem than teaching them that some people are queer or trans. and I think it is okay to correct kids too or how well they learn? I think the human experience is an important one to share. would a cis person sharing a personal story bother you? or is it that we have marked things such as queer and trans as "inappropriate " or " sexual" when they were not? we tell toddlers, you're going to be a heartbreaker, you're going to be so popular with the ladies, you'll be breathing the boys off with a stick. we say, oh is that your boyfriend/girlfriend when they are in kindergarten. we push heterosexuality and gender on them from the time they are born. so no, I don't think talking with them and gender or about gay people is bad at all, those things are not inappropriate, they're just part of life. if anything, we need to let kids be kids and we need to let them learn and be curious too. and stop pushing them with this heterosexual pressure.

@@boba69 This is so excellently put, thank you so much! I really am worried about how things are going for queer and trans people right now, especially in Florida.

When I was homeless, I was an annoying boba to the staff there. SO many transphobic practices, punished for dressing femme, ignoring safety concerns like taking proof of safe space stickers on my room door that were slashed with knives and stuff, threatening to kick me out if I didn't get a job, but telling anyone who called for an interview with my chosen name that I didn't exist (also against their EXISTING rules of protecting who lives there and not). Just so so many more things, to the point one staff quit over it (we reconnected YEARS later after I was finally housed). But i'd sit in front of manager's doors all day, when asked if I had anything better to do be like 'nope, i'm homeless, where do I need to be?' I'd approach them at holiday parties in the shelters, one of the few times I could actually connect with some of them, i fought tooth and nail. Every time a change came they'd tell me 'oh that wasn't because of you, we were doing that anyway' but YEARS FUCKING LATER I make a video about my experience (vimeo.com/64807024 ), and they comment on it, all buddy buddy, saying how I helped. I was SO pissed, and I knew they did it because I trashed them in the video... This video went on to become training material at a lot of shelters, and at a few presentations, which is how I reconnected with that staff member! I went on to try and work in the field, to be frontline staff in the way those who saved my lives were, but my god that field is hard to break into if you LIVED in it (restrictions are understandable, they don't want me seeing the files of people I know, but still). BUT I did get to do some educating at YMCA places, as well as be a part of an LGBTQ2A toolkit used to stop shelters from being able to say 'oh, we don't have proper training because we can't afford it', WELP HERE'S A FREE RESOURCE BITCH XD. Too many times I had to educate my intake staff while having a panic attack about being homeless and in a shelter... If you know any shelters or staff who might be able to make use of this toolkit to help LGBTQ and especially the T (What? I'm trans and I got to make a big chunk of it XD), PLEASE feel free to pass along this (entirely free) resource
