I have a 2015 GS LC. I think the telelever is one of the most brilliant designs for a motorcycle suspension. It's a little heavier and a bit complex, but these drawbacks are heavily outweighed by the positive aspects of the design. Not only does it practically eliminate brake dive, but it greatly improves cornering, as it doesn't want to stand the bike up as much in a corner - meaning that it's much easier to brake harder near the apex of a corner and thus, take it faster. People complain about the feeling of it, but it's an acquired taste that pays off once you can appreciate it. With the flat twin and dual radiators, the shock behind the forks is given extra room, and having a radiator on each side with the fang shaped ducts actually drastically improves cooling, for it's not a single radiator with airflow obstructed by the forks.

I agree it is a great design...it is now 2020 so I believe it is time vehicle suspension systems were greatly improved over what was available 80 years ago...

I finally understood, it's not that it doesn't dive on braking, it just keeps the wheels the same distance when diving

Having never been on a BMW motorcycle before and recently test ridden the new 1250 GS I must say I’m very impressed with the telelever suspension. I was looking for bumps and potholes to hit and it easily soaked it up. It’s OK if it’s more complicated. 2 radiators? That’s fine. My VFR 800 has 2 radiators for the sake of moving the V4 engine further forward. Works just fine.

Sudden strong side gusts of wind yank my helmet all around but GS's w Telelever front suspensions seem to go straight with barely a wiggle, it's amazing. First time I noticed was on the Atlantic coast of Ireland with fierce ocean breezes while riding behind tall hedges and walls, then into open barren spots where I knew the side wind speeds were going 0 to 50 to 0 mph again and again.

I've never owned a GS but have owned two R1150RT bikes, an R1150R, and currently own an R1150 Rockster and an R1150RS. I love the R1150 motor and the paralever/telelever suspension. Simple yet robust, with great controllability. However, for an offroad bike, I prefer traditional forks for their lower weight and much greater suspension travel.

13 days riding a loaded '15 1200GS two up in Ireland was awesome. The bike did not waver when we were riding 40+mph along the Atlantic Ocean behind a 12ft high wall hiding the 30-50 mph crosswind. Of course the wall would end at a gate or a property line and we would suddenly be in a huge open left to right cross wind. The bike would barely notice however our full face helmets would buffet with one big swing each. I give credit to the GS and the Telelever in particular for this desirable trait, like no other bike I've ridden.

Thank you for producing this very informative video on the TL suspension system. Let's take the sports bike out of the equation. The TL suspension incorporated into the BMW R1200C Cruiser (James Bond) is a breakthrough in the handling and control for the rider. This 1200C is my first bike and I've never felt my ability to exceed my confidence. I've always felt at one with my bike. I truly enjoyable riding experience everytime I take her out for a ride. Which is why I ride. I don't get over confident and exceed my ability but the TL suspension allows me continually grow and mature as a new rider. Thank you again for producing the video. I appreciate your efforts. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Back on a GS after a couple of years on a Yamaha fazer 1000, Telelever fork was much missed the anti dive ride quality is superb .Twin cam 2012 air/oil cooled bike is the best version for me it has great sound /character and punchy acceleration especially with full Akropovic system flappy valve removed ,K& N air filter and power commander V5 .This bike goes anywhere... cruddy back roads or smooth fast twisties .The Fazer always felt unstable on bad roads notchy gearshift and wanted to go fast all the time ....,which is not good in the UK ! The GS is a perfect road bike ,with a bit of fettling its even better !

telever is fantastic. i wish bmw would build a light/mid weight bike with long travel telever, that uses a light parallel twin motor. this is bmw's competitive advantage and i don't understand how come they don't apply to more bikes. telever is terrific. when i ride my other bikes, i really miss telever. duolever on the k bikes is also fabulous. i had a k1200s and loved it. again, i wish bmw would apply these technologies to lighter motorcycles -truly light, not the f850. f850 is heavy. thank you for video.

I have been riding a whole row of BMW R 1XXX GS motorcycles since the beginning of the nineties. I ride a lot. This video should have stressed the main advantage of the telever/parlever setup, which is safety. In connection with ABS, the systems allow the rider to perform a full emergency braking in a turn, just like it allows to perform an evasive turning maneuver during any absolutely hard braking. In agitated riding, it also allows to brake hard not before a turn, but actually in a turn, as late as all the way to the apex of the turn, and letting the rider accelerate fully from there. On many occasions, these systems prevented hard, potentially tragic crashes. On uneven surfaces, where the road has a series of "waves" in which the suspensions travel up and down, the wheelbase remains constant. When this happens in a turn, the riding does not get affected, the motorcycle does not twist, it remains stable, allowing for much higher speeds and more safety. I will never risk riding a motorcycle WITHOUT these systems anymore.

I'm in the process of downsizing after seven years on Telever bikes (2006 GS, 2017 GSA) wanting something lighter. But...I worry that I have gotten used to Telever and it's been a long time since I have aggressively ridden anything else.
@bezmena8039
@bezmena8039 Жыл бұрын
@@orangelion03 It is not only a matter of riding aggressively. You can be a defensive rider but should you find yourself in a collision course with some car (for instance) or in the need of hard braking in a turn, telelever and paralever will give you the extra safety you may need to prevent a crash. I would rather not trade safety for a few Kg. of weight. Being able to fully brake in a turn, or to make an evasive turn during an emergency braking is a huge advantage which I would not like to lose.

Very good explanation. And great video footage and imagery. I ride a R1200 GS Adv, oilhead series, and have had an R1100 GS prior and I absolutely love these bikes. Two comments: The slider on telelever front ends have no shock absorbing action. When you replace leaking fork seals on the telescopic sliders of these bikes, you will see there are no valves, no pressurised gas and of course no springs inside. Second, the telelever advantages outweigh the drawbacks, but it is unfortunately true that they are hard on shocks. The physics cannot be cheated - There is only so much oil and gas pressure in a single front and single rear shock. Half as much oil must heat up, shred the oil molecules from the shearing action through the valving, and strain the seals twice as fast as twin shocks at each end will do. If you load the panniers, add a passenger, fill that big fuel tank and hit the backroads and mountain trails, it really work the shocks hard, and something is likely to go. Regardless of whether White Power, Showa or Ohlins makes them...

Thanks for this video, but the disadvantages are not at all there i would say, as you mentioned the sports bike have lower ground clearance and the need for telelever is totally absent. The second point any advanced mechanism will have complexity and BMW has addressed it very well.

I keep a file of everything I have done to it, read a lot about mechanics, took courses and always traying to understand better my bike and constantly improving my riding and so far I just don't know what's a warranty or an accident, just have always enjoy every ride. Oh, by the way, it has been received for a recall for the flange at ZERO cost. So, I don't have complains about it. For me THE BEST BIKE EVER!!!
