There's a sensor on the carb

why are you removing them there are 2 screws pry out

Go on to partszilla.Com you can look up the part number type it in Ebay and typically stock and aftermarket pop up

That's not needed to start its a temp sensor

Ebay has them and yes the knockoffs are good I have one working great for 3years

Penatrating oil or remove the cable from the throttle at the handle bars pull it through so you can get the carb out then ultrasonic clean up that will free it up

is it burning engine oil and 2 stroke oil at the same time

Yeah

It's got good compression but the spark plug always has oil on it and it leaks on the left side of the bike over time

@@2strokeguru I took the Exuast tip out this winter it was completely saturated with the oil mix residue I cleaned it repacked it. I bought this bike 2 years ago knowing that the engine would probably need going through. Piston rings seals bearings etc. It's kinda hard finding old school 2stroke mechanics like yourself that know what the're doing to these vintage machines.

I had one that someone completely removed ran absolutely fine even in the winter

@@2strokeguru im going nuts trying to Figure out why this quad breaks up when on the throttle and the spark plug is getting found out with black carbon. The kid put an aftermarket Carburetor on it it's a 2002 big bear 400 Yamaha. I check the timing the marks are 100% I checked The tension on the chain the tensioner is perfect and I just checked the valve lash thats perfect as well.. You Rave it up in neutral and it breaks up.. Do you know what the adjustment for the carburetor air mixture screw should be at By any chance

@@2strokeguru ok thanks. from what I have seen the rev limiter is a green and white wire. but I cant seem to find it. Any other idea why it would sputter in 4th and 5th and not go over 25 mph?

@@2strokeguru I'm running into the same issue, i'm trying to find a replacement carb for my 04 big bear 400, and most don't have a place to plug those 2 little connector, will it run fine without those pluged in? What are they for exactly?

Make sure the carb slide is going all the way down

Odds are it will work. Just expect to go through a few lemons till you get one to work. Unless the the carb is rusted just clean it. Parts very accessible for that model. Ultrasound is your friend. Bur a good carb cleaner a carb kit and forced air also good companions.

@@kansascityshuffle8526 got a rebuild kit, gonna try to fix it up first. got to start up with a little sniff of ether so I think it will go with a clean carb and fresh fluids. etc,

@@collinmc90 ha did this a year ago. Ended up having to take it to a shop. My only sin was that there are two jets in my 09. Apparently they can actually be put in the wrong hole and threaded in. Maybe take them apart and clean and replace individually instead of taking them both out. Or if you have got them both out and it doesn’t run after reassembly consider this possibility. Hope that helps.

@@2strokeguru I still found the location on the intake the vacuum hooks up on. I have a model yfm400nn big bear the problem I'm having it loses power and cuts out when I give it gas. I tried to clean the carb then ordered a brand new carb. And I'm still having the same problem the compression is reading 125 when cold. I heard that the reverse switch or neutral switch can trigger a rev limiter but I've tried unhooking both of those. Still same problem.

@@travishale1491 have you replaced the spark plugs this bike uses a resistor plug sounds like it could be the plug

@@2strokeguru how many turna do you turn the mixture screw or pilot screw. Mine wont run correctly at all since someone enrichened it to much.

@@GMC.Sonoma.4.3 1 and a half is the starting point there is no turn to exact amount that gets it running and then fine tune it

@@2strokeguru what do you mean fine tune it? Like without the throttle stop screw or something idk it doesnt say in the owners manual or on the machine how many turns for that screw.

@@2strokeguru mine was running rich at idle and burning too much gas. How do i get it to not run lean or rich?
