The working relationship between trades and interior designers can be a delicate one to navigate! In this video about working relationships, I address a question that came up in my Free FB group (links below to submit a request to join) by a designer working with a client who has their own contractor. The issue that has been raised is one about the ordering of materials and goods and is something that needs to be addressed at the start of a working relationship.
The contractor feels his toes are being stepped on. He has threatened to walk away if he cannot do the ordering.
It all comes down to communication and managing expectations! Here's my advice.

Hi Claire, it’s currently 1:39 am and I’ve been binging your videos tonight lol. Thank you for all the information you share! I have some questions regarding your custom full design service. How do you go about storing furniture and decor orders while the space is being renovated? Do you have a storage space? Does the client pay for shipping to that location then pay for shipping again to their home? I’m really trying to get clarity in this area. Thank again!

Hi Claire. Long time follower & subscriber... wanted to ask you how’s the learning curve for chief architect. Abs why do you prefer it to SketchUp ? Also what online decorator programs do you recommend? I’m looking into QC but wanted to see if you had any better suggestions. This is a new career shift for me. I am a RN & have been buying properties & fixing them & really enjoy it! Thanks for your help & support! ☺️

Hi Claire, so i have a question about the pricing. If the client gives you a 50.000 budget, for a kitchen design, does that goes towards the builders and for the designer or is that just for the furniture and they have to pay additional money for the builders and separate money for the designer?? I hope you’ll be able to help me with this question.

The budget should be separate from the designer fee. The contractor should be separate from you, so you won’t be responsible for anything in case something go wrong on the end of the contractor.
