I wanted to document a day in the life as a volunteer of me working at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo. All videos of the orangutans were taken from the viewing and feeding platform.
The orang-utan has been under serious threat recently and sadly one of our closest ancestors still needs our help. They are critical endangered and without our help could go extinct within the next 10 years - We cant let this happen.
I would strongly advice anyone to do some research and avoid using unsustainable palm oil wherever possible. Feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.

This channel recently popped up in my recommendations so I checked it out. Although I find its moderator a bit overbearing, I subscribed anyway since he's showing NEW orangutan rehab content. Luckily I can scroll past his big head and get to the good stuff lol! BOS has nothing new since covid set in.

What I fear the most is that, when the amazing rain forests are gone, and our "leaders" are forced to finally admit (because we can not go outside without canned oxygen ) that the green house effect was not a myth, and that we really didn't need all those palm oil plantations, and they should have enforced the laws they set down decades ago about poaching... It is such a scary, seemingly inevitable fate.

Best advice is to spend more than just a morning at the sanctuary, that way if theres not much activity you can come back another day or see them in the afternoon. If you have the money and time I'd recommend heading over to KK to climb Mount Kinabalu if thats your thing. Enjoy :)

Pre pandemic I was starting my search of which organization to go with. I know its still going to be a while. Coming from USA its an 8ncredibly long flight which. Is ok, I'm just concerned now if I'll be able to start the work physically after the 1st day or would bet lag, which I've never had, effect me .

Jack....I have some VERY serious inquiries about volunteer work at this rehabilitation center and if you get this I'd love to have a way to contact you thru email or direct message to discuss the ins and outs of this. I have a unsatisfyable and insatiable desire to work with apes in general and as much as possible before I get too old or get where I can't do it anymore. Please, PLEASE contact me somehow or leave me a way to contact you so we can further discuss this. Thank you. My name is Justin.

I have been there as a tourist. I did not know there is a volunteer program, I believe you have to pay as a volunteer, and the fee is including accommodation and meals, right? But I think it is okay to support them. There are many these type of programs around the world. I put this type of travel on my bucket list!

Hiya, love this so much and it is definitely something ive wanted to do for about 3 years, How long did you volunteer for? and how much money would you suggest is the best amount? Thank you :)
@JackTheHuman
@JackTheHuman 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Adele, i was volunteering in Sabah in Malaysia for 2 months, it really depends on your skillset and what you want to do, any help is good. I think 2 months - 6 months is plenty of time to make a small difference and experience the culture and get involved. I think the Indonesian side of Borneo needs a lot of help at the moment so I'd suggest having a look at BOS Foundation.

Thank you :) I spoke to a lady before and she said I wouldn't be able to have contact with the animals, how did you get to touch them? This seems like a weird question but it just really inspires me
@JackTheHuman
@JackTheHuman 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the project you work on and the companies, you have to be very careful if you do have contact because you can pass on human illnesses to them and the babied can become dependent on humans which is not good. Don't worry so much if you can touch them or not, it shouldn't be about that it should be about making a difference and trying to work towards preventing their extinction.
