Amazing as always! Your videos are more helpful than you know. I not only learned some new information about tooltips, but solved another issue I was having. The way you explain things is so easy to follow and you don't skip the "obvious" things that some other specialists seem to do. Keep these videos coming please!

It would be really great if we could have "GM-only" tool tips so the player's couldn't see them. Thanks for the video.

Taking a break from furiously scribbling notes to say this is an awesome tip! I am thinking of running a Shadowrun game soon, and I have ideas now for using tooltips to show what augmented reality/AR might show on a map. Also, I wouldn't have figured out that macro ever on my own, so thank you very much!

I was just thinking yesterday about using some token tooltips in my maps. I was also thinking I could set up tooltips for "blank" areas by using a transparent .GIF or .PNG and giving it an aura (so I can see it as GM) and putting it wherever I want a tip to pop up. This macro is going to come in very handy though!

You can use it also with color on GM side

You can set the token transparent and give it a glow, then only the GM can 'see' it, but if players happen to mouse over that spot, the tool tip still shows up for them.

I just did this with a city map for my game. I went a step further and used the Encounter Helper mod to prepare all the points of interest, and then I can reveal them as the players discover them.

hi Niko, why use two buttons in the bottom bar? Wasn't it better to just have a button to toggle tooltips on and off? Thank you for everything you do for the roll20 community.
@Dyanosis
@Dyanosis 5 ай бұрын
But you're not just toggling them on or off, you're also setting their text. And sometimes it's better to be clear about what something is doing than to be short. Here's another problem with your suggestion - how many clicks does Nick's way take to clear a tooltip? One - clicking "clearTip". If we make that into 1 button that's "tooltip", then we might have 2 windows that can pop up - the first says "text" and you type the text (or leave blank) and the second says "On or off" and is a dropdown for you to choose if it's on or off. If we take this second way of doing things, how many clicks does it take to clear a tooltip? Three - 1 to open the first dialog, 1 to confirm the first dialog (no text required), and 1 to confirm the second dialog (assuming that Off is the default). But if on is the default, now it's 5 clicks - 1 additional click to open the dropdown and 1 additional click to select Off. Now you may say "You're being pedantic", but am I? The point of a UI is to be easy and straight forward for someone to use, especially if it's things they're going to be doing a lot. And in a D&D game where you should be focusing on how to do things quickly to keep things flowing, having 1 button with up to 5 clicks just to clear a tooltip is a bit much. Especially if you accidentally only do 3 clicks because you forgot to select "off" and now you get to do 5 more clicks. So much clicking. Instead, you have 1 for "set" and 1 for "clear". Simple.

Ok. I am confused. I swear I saw your video the other day where you created a darkness spell API script. But when I went to search for it, nothing happened, I cannot find it.

I've gotten the set tooltip macro to turn on the "show" box, but that's it. Ir won't add text. The clear tip macro will no uncheck it. But it WILL clear text now!
