I used to work for a manager from Seattle in the lab logistics industry, who is really toxic ( bullying employees, putting employees down in front of co-workers, micro-managing, etc ) and attempts to notify his superior, as well as H.R. proved worthless, ) and as a result, nobody respects the guy, or wants to work for him, and we kept losing employees. We had a really good supervisor who transferred up here to Seattle from Portland, OR, and he was a large reason why this guy quit, too. I heard this employer recently merged with a couple of other logistics companies down in Oregon, and I feel sorry for those who will be exposed to this. A lot of great pointers you brought up. Sad when a toxic manager can ruin so many prosperous careers.

I am two weeks from giving my notice from an IT job that I LOVE but a pair of bosses that are extremely TOXIC, a husband and wife that are new to management. They started out our first staff meeting five months ago with the "everyone is replaceable" speech. As a result our original team of eight is now down to just three. For some reason they don't understand why great people are quitting. Knowing that I don't have to disclose my new employer helps reduce the stress level. And practice, practice, practice will help. I really want to leave on good terms but I know these two people are going to be brutal. Thanks, one of the best resign videos I have watched!

I’m about to talk to my boss tomorrow cuz I finally got an offer. A lot of team members quit so I can’t imagine how he’ll react (he’s very needy and asks me to do all his work). Can’t wait to get out of my toxic work environment

@@everywoman194 Update: got my work settled, asked my boss if he needed anything else during my 2 weeks (never responded), and I'm out. I start my new job next week :D. Plus a bit of a "fun" fact, more people from my department are quitting and I almost wish I could be a fly on the wall for the manager meetings since SOMEHOW the company says they can't hire new employees b/c they're "over their hiring budget" lol. They're gonna be slammed for a while (sadly some friends are still there but they're lookin' to get out too)

Nope, just an email will do. Making claims such as “ I read the non compete and I am not in violation” is just setting you up for legal issues. Avoid any discussion about where you’ll be going or any details, this again just sets you up for something to be used against you. Also, politely decline any sort of exit interview with HR, and do NOT sign any “release” paper work either. Usually these papers will void any kind of legal claim you can pursue against your employer for any reason.

Hi guys, do you have a video where you're discussing leaving a company within 6 months? I don't want to disappoint my manager coz he's really really nice and I'm thinking after all the trouble they went through by hiring me, now I'm leaving in my 6th month. I just feel like I'm not going to grow and contribute successfully to the company's goals moving forward because the work is so complex and difficult with less support from peers, but I don't want to say any negative things about anyone to my boss.

How would you deal with a situation where you boss will talk your ear off for an hour or more because you're quitting, and will text you while you're home trying to bribe you to stay?
@SchoolSixteen
@SchoolSixteen 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed your comment - hopefully you were able to resolve. I would say that the best thing to do in that situation is what one should do with anyone that's unreasonable - ignore them, and make the decision that's right for you (move on to the next opportunity). If he/she threatens legal action, you now have the evidence on your phone to rest easy.

Simple, picture this: You're dating this girl that doesn't have her stuff together. She drinks too much, doesn't keep on top of important stuff and so on. You dump her and tell her you're going to date a new girl who doesn't have these problems. She all the sudden agrees to quit drinking and get caught up on work if you dump the new girl and go back to her. Would you take her up on it? No! You were headed out the door for a reason. Even if she 'fixed' the problems which she didn't want to deal with earlier, chances are in a few weeks she's burnt out with it and back to her old self. What makes you think your boss is going to change stuff on a stable basis? What makes you think a disorganized or toxic or poorly paying boss is going to change their ways for long. Come on. We weren't born yesterday. The dude is just trying to buy himself time to transfer all your notes and train thr replacement so he can fire you.

I made the mistake of telling my supervisor about my plans to move, then asked her if she would write a recommendation letter for me. She said yes, then went on to tell me how no one has got my back at work and if I want to do what's best for me I should. However, she didn't write the letter, started distancing herself from me and I noticed awkward looks from my other colleagues, including my manager. Now I really got the offer, and I'm not sure how to approach my manager. I know she knows because the same supervisor told me if I do quit I must really be sure because as soon as I approach my manager I wiill have no future at the company. How do I approach my manager considering the back story? Thanks.
@Lisa-my5sy

You don’t want a future at such a company. Professionally give your notice and cut your losses. You will be relieved and happier in the long run and in a month you won’t care at all.

Hi Sir, I have a problem. The firm that i am currently working on has a notice period of 3 months to get relieved. I have an offer which has given me a hike of 250%. :) (Yikes). But the problem now is, the new company wants me to join in 1 month. I definitely cannot lose this oppurtunity and wanted to get relieved really soon. Can you please suggest me how to get out of this situation smoothly :) .. Thanks in advance
@SchoolSixteen
@SchoolSixteen 6 жыл бұрын
3 months seems unusually long - is this in the United States? In the employment contract, what does it say will happen if you can not honor the 3 month period and have to leave earlier? I don't know your boss, but your best bet is to have an honest conversation about this with him/her. Clarify that you've received an opportunity that you can not turn down given your career goals and financial needs, but that you'd be happy to to work overtime in the next month to train your replacement or team to make sure the transition is smooth. You might also offer to be available part time to respond to specific questions for an additional month (if that's possible). Sounds like you should take this new offer, congrats!

Revz.in thank you sir. However, I am from India and not from UNITED STATES. The new offer however is from united states company. Indian companies generally have very high notice period and hence is my problem and wanted to know and trying to understand how to deal with it. :(

Do you know anyone that has tried to quit before the 3 months? What has happened in those cases? Basically, the best thing you can do is try to understand the possible ramifications if you were to leave early. If you speak with your boss, and if the boss says no and threatens legal action, then you should talk to an employment attorney to see what is actually legally enforceable by the company. My bet is that it will not go that far, especially if you have a good relationship with your employer.
