Without question it's the most complicated chord reel I've seen to make, but also innovative and oddly attractive.

Rope bags. They're magic. Rope goes in through tiny hole. Rope does not tangle or knot. Handy dandy handle and protects cord.

Might want to reverse which end is on the inside. If you leave the plug on the inside you would then take just the socket to the tool and not the whole reel. Could then leave it mounted somewhere near an outlet so it could be used that way but still have the option of taking the whole reel somewhere else to use it.

Love this hose reel. Agreed on switching the sides. I love the quick release bracket with such a satisfying fit. I might attach that to a post that would allow your whole reel assembly to pivot 180 degrees to keep it from hitting your shoulder and also allow you to pull out the extension cord directly towards any side of your shop. Very cool design.

I was about to mention the same thing. I bought 50’ power cord and automatic recoil reels for $5 each. The ends were backwards from the manufacture. Cut them off and swapped them and I’m very happy with them. But I personally like my 5 gallon bucket. I have two small holes in the lid one in the center and one close to the edge. Center one is bigger. One by the edge has about 3’ of the male end hanging out and the center is coiled up through the big hole. Set next to a plug, grab the female end and start walking. Cheap and simple. But his is nice and well made.

It's awesome to have an option that's not a cheap, ugly, plastic piece of store-bought junk that's going to fall apart after rattling cheaply for a few months!

my brother you one of my favorite carpenters, and believe me it's about 3 of you that I think are badass and not to say all the other carpenters ain't great and amazing, but you bro are very creative. I LOVE how you've put your work shop together, truly something to be proud of. I'm a young wood worker coming up in the game. I struggle a lot with the creative side but I'm doing my best at my level but anyway I love your channel and I'll always Be tuned in. keep making it happen PEACE

Maybe you got a project that you through was too big or crazy to do... well that is the the kind of video we need! Everything in your shop is an example of how creative you are none of them are seen anywhere else.

Just wanna say your videos are great mate. No flashy equipment used just everyday tools most people have. Great stuff. Just about to build some actuating floor clamps to fit loads of doors. Brilliant 👏🏻

I LOVE this idea! My shop floor is cluttered with cords and a solution like this would be fantastic. I think that many times a diy solution is the best option. We are creators and when we make diy tools, jigs, and storage solutions instead of just going out and buying something we are actually exercising our skills. Great project!

Great video again. I think it is indeed a little overkill. However I understand that you produce these videos because they are A) diy B) fun to explore what is possible or what works and C) simply because you can do it. Btw, these are exactly the reasons why I watch it. Everyone can buy an extension cord rail, but where is the fun? Don’t stop exploring.

It's a great looking reel but it's not something that I would hackle. One question for you, do you ever make mistakes? If so, it would be nice to see them in the video.

This is quite creative, almost like a project whose purpose is to use common things in the most imaginative way. Sure, I won't build one like that, but it was so much fun watching you attach bearings and retainers, and the handle on the bolts with spacers to put it in the middle: I liked it all. It's always fun to watch you solve problems in a different way from everyone else.

I really like it, great project. I drilled a hole in the bottom of a bucket and just coil a cord into that, with the male end of the cord coming out of the hole. I like this method, easier to coil, I'd just add more cord on the inside, so you don't have to uncoil the enter thing to plug it in.

There are two things I would have done to improve this...and for my own personal needs. That is..used the french cleat to store it and, Have a fixed double socket on the front of it which you plug into the female part. You still get the ability to remove the lead...but you get a better socket on the front. You are an absolute genius mate. Your workshop is ingenious and incredibly useful. I will be using a lot of your ideas on my new workshop project.

You could add a swivel to the wall mount to fold it out of the way when it’s not in use. Not that it’s not good enough already, but hey, why not?

Good video. Only thought I had was to hinge the mounting if possible so that, when not in use, the entire reel holder can fold flat against the wall thereby taking up less space.

Definitely the best most robust cord reel I have ever seen and the way you came up with to store it on the wall is great. I really enjoyed watching you build it. I guess my only problem is i don’t know that I could build it and it work lol. Thanks for another good video.

of all the years i have been using extension leads i never thought this was going to be a interesting video, how wrong i was, loved it. some of your projects i have used in my own small workshop changing the odd thing to suit me, keep the videos coming loved it!!

This is one of the best diy reels I’ve seen on KZfaq. I agree with another post about reversing the cord so the male end is on inside so you could leave reel on wall and pull female plug out for use with tool

Great build as usual! I would have made the centre wheel out of aluminum to reduce weight. And like others mentioned switch the male/femelle plug.

Love the innovative idea. Can imagine 4 or 5 of these on my garage walls for each long cord. Also for air hose reel, rope, etc.

Love it, reckon my boss needs something like that for his retail rubber extrusion shop! As sometimes we need to re-roll from large roll into smaller ones to suit the shelving! Might have to make one that can hold the plastic reels! Thanks for the inspiration!

That looks great!! My only thought is putting 3' or 4' of the male end on the inside so you don't have to remove the entire cord if you don't need that much. Awesome video as always though. Keep up the great work sir!

Awesome idea ... where's the fun in buying of the shelf? a tip: if you add a left/right turn ability to the wall mount, the reel would not stick out of the wall when not in use ;)

Love it! So much more satisfying than some tack from a big box store. And the combination of the weight and the bearings should fix that perennial problem of walking out the cable and having the thing bouncing along behind you.

That is a pretty cool design! That being said, it is *VITAL* that a power cord NOT be left in a coil if a high-current load is applied, as any heat created in the cord won't be able to dissipate easily enough. I didn't realize this and ended up melting my cord into a solid lump when running a clothes washer off of it while testing. I was just lucky that the insulation didn't completely melt, causing a short and possibly a fire! (It is *FAR* easier to run into this if you don't spend the money to get a lower-gauge cord that can handle higher currents without heating up. If you are running anything heavier than a phone charger, 14 gauge just won't do; 12 or even 10 is the way to go, especially for cords longer than 10'/3m.)

Cool design. I purchased some nice ratcheting ones that I ended up fixing a French cleat bracket to, allowing me to hang it as well as quickly remove when needed

Excellent engeenering, good ideas, thanks! Yes, you did some overkill, for sure 😄 The result is nice and sturdy. I would suggest to mount a bar across the wheel diameter (hence 2 screws) and have it protrude about 10 cm outside of it, then install the handle at its end. This on the other side of the device, in order to avoid the protruding nuts and caps. The crank leverage would be a little better. I'm a little lazy for this sort of things, so I bought a cord reel. Shame on me 😂
