Nice job. When you clad it, if you are going with roofing sheets, get the insulated ones, you'll thank yourself in the future when you're warm and dry (no condensation dripping off the ceiling).
@OffGridBruce
@OffGridBruce 2 жыл бұрын
I do want to but they are so expensive. I was thinking about getting the non drip lined for the roof. What do you think of those?
@johncooper8604
@johncooper8604 2 жыл бұрын
@@OffGridBruce Yeah, agree they're not cheap! Those dripstop lined ones may work for you needs. I think they are more for buildings that won't be heated and you need to ensure there's ventilation to disperse any moisture at the eaves, so you have a good cross flow of air.

More of a question than a comment. I notice you're placing the uprights right on the edge of concrete pad. I always thought the concrete had to be wider than the uprights enough to allow for concrete shear at 45 degrees? In which case shouldn't the pad have been slightly bigger?
@OffGridBruce
@OffGridBruce 2 жыл бұрын
No because if the slab is bigger then the sheeting doesn’t come down the side of it so water would get in the building. I thought the same before building it but spoke to 2 companies that said that’s the way it’s done so went with what they said

Hi Bruce. I have to say, you're inspiring me to start a channel as well. We have a similar project, in Co. Waterford. I have a very old farm building on a 10ac site that we want to renovate and setup off-grid, as the ESB is charging a fortune and plaster us with red tape to get it connected back to the grid. How has your channel developed since ye started with the off-grid content, cause I think you migrated the channel from the travel content to the off-grid topic (giving you a bit of a headstart, right :) Just trying to gauge how much interest is in this kind of content and if it's worth the extra time effort on top of all the renovation work.
@OffGridBruce
@OffGridBruce 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcus, it’s a very slow burn. My advice would be to start a channel if it’s the kind of thing you like to do. I love making videos but it’s a fair bit of extra work. I was told make 100 videos with no expectations and see where you are at. That’s what I did. It only takes one good video to spike but I have made a fair few vids so far

Hey David, I looked into a few options and if I’m really honest I probably rushed into this although it’s still going to be great. I think if I was to start over I would take the time and timber frame it. Obviously that would take me a very long time. I’ll do a costing at the end of the build for those interested
