Always admire the skills of these gentlemen. On our farm in Canada, my brother is the fabricator / designer / welder, while I get the jobs of assembly. Knowing just how hard it is, these fellows make it look easy. Beautiful work!!!

You know what, guys. I like the music. Normally I hate music in video’s unless they are about music. But this fits really well. Not to loud, nice. Kinda reinforces the fabrication-master-fabricator theme thing. Like !!

You know your welder is a damn BEAST when he sticks right into the welding and doesn't even bother with gloves! He stuck right into it like it was nothing. I can't even WATCH people weld without reaching for gloves.

Actually, that welder is saving as much as 2/3(or MORE) of the time to align those small metal bits for welding in a complex, curved metal bird's nest of oddly angled fasteners, by skipping the gloves and the clamps. You'll notice that he's welding on a metal surface that he's certainly grounded(and checked and re-checked many times) to be able to do that. NOTHING can beat the hands that God has given us, for versatility and usefulness. One learns unconventional techniques like this in the military, or in self-employment. And also, he has probably gotten in trouble for doing it that way in the past. Imagine being at sea(or in battle) and some quick, effective welding HAS to be done - to save the day. And hundreds of people are waiting, watching you(or worse, YELLING at you) to save their lives. And he's probably been burned or bitten by thousands of volts in the past; but he's confident that he can do it. Notice, however, that he had most of one of those suspension arms recognizably finished by the show's end. And - of course, needless to say - DON'T try this at home, kids!

Battle? You’re just spewing 💩. The Infrared and UV radiation cause skin cancer and burns. It’s wrong technique and, frankly, shouldn’t be shown on KZfaq where beginners are watching. you don’t need to take dangerous shortcuts to do a good job. Period.

That was a pleasure to watch. Being on the arse end of the world's supply chain for most of the industrial age, subject to the tyranny of distance etc turns out to have been a blessing for Australia. If we couldn't get something we just made it and thankfully that tradition lives on.

I know a guy here in the Netherlands who restored the world wide only running and driving Nashorn WW2 track vehicle and he amazed me as well. Kurt, Aviation Tin Snips come in three styles, LH, RH, and Neutral. The Neutral ones are, in the parlance, a bugger to learn as they do not follow your hand's natural ergonomics. So, not only are they inclined to wander off the cut line, the cut piece comes back at your cutting hand attempting to slice same into a dog's breakfast.

You would be amazed at how common English accents are here. At least 1 in every 20 people here were born in the UK. Very common to hear an accent from that part of the world :)

German Military Vehicles of that era were known for being over engineered and over complicated with more grease nipples than you can count. To remanufacture from complicated components from scratch requires outstanding metal working skills. My admiration and respect to the guys.

May I suggest to Al that the bearing locking washer can be bought at any industrial bearing supplier. They are called bearing lock washers. Also bearing nuts can be had. They are sized by the last number of the bearing example 5208 bearing would use a W-8 lock washer 👍

Did you also notice that, he just made that locking washer with tabs to bend onto the nut, but nothing to grab the keyways cut into the threaded tube? It will still spin with the nut unless it grabs the tube as well

Surely the large locking ring on the hub should have an internal tab to key in with the shaft ? Otherwise there's nothing to stop the ring from spinning with the nut.

Back in 1970 my old airframe powerplant instructor went to a surplus outlet and bought seven radial tank engines from WWII for 180 bucks apiece and brought them back to practice disassemble and reassemble them. To make them aircraft engine was to change one barring from a roller to a ball barring.

Shouldn't the lockwasher with the bend up tabs have a tab on the inside that fits the groove on the threaded shaft, to prevent it from turning?

Correct me if I am wrong, but @ 11:20 , won't that washer just spin with the nut? It has nothing pinning it to the shaft, so, if those 4 tabs are all bent up into the slots on the nut, it will just spin with it. There are multiple keyways in that threaded tube, that washer also needs some tabs that go into them to keep it from spinning.

I was surprised to see the retainer washers being hand-made. Does Aus Armor need a small plasma or laser table? Might be a nice Fund ME project ...

A small point, the tabs on a lock washer are staggered so that when the bearing is adjusted, one tab only lines up not all of them! This allows for correct adjustment! Cheers, Matthew

Your Correct. Maybe I missed (hole saw wouldn’t allow this) the addition of a inner tab that goes into the groove of the stub axle this makes the nut lock to the axle’s stationary position.
