Like our Band Sawn Reindeer, this miniature wooden sleigh is designed to be cut out quickly and simply on a band saw. Make eight (or nine) reindeer, add this sleigh, and you have Santa's entire team! And it's small enough to use up some of those special wood scraps you just couldn't bear to throw away.
The BAND SAW SLEIGH PROJECT PLAN, along with FULL-SIZE PATTERNS , is available in PDF format from the Workshop Companion General store at workshopcompanionstore.com/pr... .
And if you'd like to have the BAND SAW REINDEER plan as well, find it at workshopcompanionstore.com/pr... . You can also get the plans for the NESTING CHRISTMAS TREE seen in this video at workshopcompanionstore.com/pr...
To see all of our videos and SUBSCRIBE for more, see: / @workshopcompanion .
And please visit the WORKSHOP COMPANION GENERAL STORE where we offer a wide selection of Nick's BOOKS and PROJECT PLANS in digital format: workshopcompanionstore.com/ . All our plans feature both English/Imperial and metric measurements. And you can pick up one of Nick’s books FREE just for visiting!
In this video we used skip tooth bandsaw blades, these blades generally come with 4-6 tpi and you will want to make sure its the right size for you bandsaw. If you have a smaller bandsaw you will most likely need to use a 1/2" blade for resawing.
3/16" blade: amzn.to/3XCy33o amzn.to/3VrDoZC
1/2" blade: amzn.to/3OIF4LS amzn.to/3i9Ru3a
5/8" blade: amzn.to/3OHP7AK

Stupid question that may have been covered and I missed it. For future reference does blade drift change based upon the blade size you use… I.e could I just leave a line on there for reference? Or should it be done each time (I own a Shopsmith if that matters). Love the channel. Well done to you and your crew!
@WorkshopCompanion
@WorkshopCompanion Жыл бұрын
Blade drift is different for every blade and, on some band saws, for different installations of the same blade. Drift depends on a number of factors, but the most important are the set of the teeth and tracking adjustment of the upper wheel. Owing to the ways in which band saw blades are manufactured, the set of the teeth is not always the same on both sides of the blade, so the blade will cut ever-so-slightly more aggressively on one side or the other, causing the cut to drift a degree or three toward the aggressive side. And if the blade rides the crown of the upper wheel too far forward or too far back, this may also cause drift. In fact, some craftsman recommend you correct for drift by adjusting the blade tracking. I don't do this for two reasons. First, it can cause the blade to run out-of-square front-to-back, and you'll no longer get clean inside corners where two cuts must meet. And second, it's absolutely impossible on some saws, the Shopsmith included. The tracking is automatic. So I used the method I demonstrated in the video -- and I do it each time I have a resawing task before I resaw, just so there are no surprises.

Go to a crafts show -- ANY crafts show. There's a business on Etsy that sells (almost) nothing but these deer. ($35 a pop!) You may think this is benign, but you remember that Star Trek episode, "The Trouble with Tribbles?" Think about that when oversize versions of these things start popping up everywhere as lawn ornaments.

Do you think that a 3/8" blade works work instead of the 5/8"? My smaller bandsaw I don't believe a 1/2" blade will fit. Or anything larger of course.
@WorkshopCompanion

3/8" will work. You might have a little extra sanding to do, but nothing that time-consuming. Just make sure you use a skip-tooth blade to help the chips clear.
