After successfully rebuilding the 1978 John Deere 400, I received a bunch of questions via messenger and email! Many questions were referring to subassemblies and parts. I know that some parts can be found online, like standard industrial-size bearings and seals. If we go a step further we can source o-rings and various other parts. A big question was: "How much did the rebuild cost?"
You did see me go through the whole machine and in today's video you can figure out how much this restoration cost me!
Not only did I note every single cent that went into this rebuild, but I wrote down how long this restoration took me as well. Going into this project, I gave myself a considerable amount of time. The whole rebuild was very fun, but I think I could have completed it a little bit faster. Looking at how much time I spent on cleaning and paint prep, leaves me to wonder if there
is a better way to get things done. I might just have to find another method to get projects turned around faster. Or at least I hope!!
Either way, the cost breakdown and time were documented and it is now up to you to decide if it was worth it! Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
