Wow! What a nostalgia! I almost forgot about this match. Those were the days when Ind-Pak exhibition (numaishi) matches were fourth tooth-n-nail! India should have won this World Cup had Ravi Sastry not kept giving balls to Gooch on leg side or had More caught the catch (I think it was Gooch’s) early in the innings or had Dilip Vengsarkar not fallen ill in that crucial match or had one batsman given Azhar support. We could have beaten Aussies in the finals in Calcutta! 😢

I remember this match; Beating Pakistan was a rare achievement in those days. Sidhu had used Gavaskar's bat and played few glorious strokes. He made only 15 but since he was a newcomer, his 15 was talked about in the media and cricketing circles which helped him to get into the first 11 of the WC team of 1987. Well, back then there was a great expectancy that both teams will collide in the final of the 1987 world cup but unfortunately both lost their semis, never new that both had still played in the context of the 87 world cup....although not an official world cup match.

Warm up game played in colored kits, the actual world cup played in traditional flannels. That's interesting. Were all warm up matches played in colored kits?? Because this was not the only warm up match. There were several, including a couple in Pakistan if I am not mistaken. Also this seems more like an athletic track than a cricket ground. Is it the only warm up match with a surviving video?? I would be really interested in watching Prime minister's eleven vs England played at army sports ground Rawalpindi.

I remember this game I was in fifth class then. It was a D/N game we had news breaks in between and saw Wasim Akram getting out in few live moments in the news channel. How Ironic that both teams at this point never played each other in a World cup game and they do not play each other until the 1992 World cup. Being in different groups in the 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1987 World cups. It was at the 5th World Cup they had their first World cup match with each other in Australia. This warm up match does not qualify as a World Cup game of course.
